Im a North supporter and remember the good old days of watching VFL games where Lou Richards and Peter Landy were commentators and I was pretty much in awe of the flying door mat Bruce Doull.A great consistent player for Carlton. He seems a bit shy on camera here, but the times we all know were very different where people had more respect back then to what people generally are now

The greatest player EVER. As a Carlton fan he was my hero as a kid, when I began playing I wore 11 and I wore 11 on my back for 7 clubs in 3 states over 20 of 22 seasons played. Only wearing 23 for Dean Rice for 2 seasons when 11 was not available at a new club.

Some people have an aura Bruce Doull had the most massive aura I've ever experienced in my life I was only 8 in 1985 when I met him and he only said hello... He must have made you feel 20 feet tall and bulletproof as a teammate as an opponent you must have been quaking in your boots just at the thought of being in the forward line and as for the poor sod Bruce lined up on they just must have thought well that's me fucked..... Fair hard tough reliable brilliant run all-day skillful determined super cool Bruce Doull AFL legend ! I'm a Bulldogs fan ....

Even though I am a 'one-eyed' Collingwood member, 'The Flying Doormat' was the only Carlton player I liked. Brilliant, fair, consistent, fair, hard, fair & tough. He never seeked publicity or fame, but was, in my opinion, in the best 5 players I have ever had the pleasure to watch. A true superstar of the VFL/AFL!
