There is a lot of concern about the payload numbers we report in the video. The numbers we give are from the federally-mandated max payload stickers that are affixed to vehicles in the USA. These are the numbers that are accurate per the specific trims we're testing, accounting for accessories and trim changes. Love your reviews and especially this comparison of 3 of the vehicles I'm cross shopping! I've seen the door stickers on the Defender too. The numbers seem off when compared to the GVWR. The GVWR is what the DOT is going to go by when determining if a vehicle is overloaded. ....any chance you could get that Defender to a scale and get a curb weight?
@mfreidbergАй бұрын
Defenders have an odd way of showing GVWR versus “max weight of cargo and passengers should not exceed…” Apparently LR calculates “max weight” by multiplying 165 lbs times the number of seats in the vehicle. 5 seats (like my 110 and the one you tested) get 825 lbs; 7-seaters show 1,155. BUT that’s not the max it can carry per GVWR. My GVWR is 6845 lbs. I took my 110S (P300 smaller engine, no hybrid battery, but I added rock sliders) to a truck scale and it weighed 5,440 lbs. So that leaves me 1,405 lbs, not 825. No idea why LR provides that 825 number.

Ineos sales employee here at the Grenadier dealer in CT. Your description and walk through of the Grenadier was great, but quick thing to note about the lockers: you mentioned wishing there was a button or way to disable everything once you're finished off roading, and that does sort of exist! If you want to disengage all the lockers at once, you can actually just use the mechanical lever for the center locker and bring it back to any left position (either 4 low or 4 high). That will disengage all 3 lockers simultaneously, and typically they do disengage almost immediately, however the way it works with the Grenadier is there are wheel sensors on each wheel to track the wheel rotation that controls the indicators on the tell tale display. Those wheel sensors normally take a few rotations in order for the sensors to display the lockers are disengaged through the indicators which is why they'll flash for a little bit, but as soon as they are disengaged that process is normally very quick and you immediately feel the difference in the way the Grenadier turns/gets traction. Hope this helps, and thanks for the awesome review!

Manufactured in France at a former Smart factory, the Grenadier is made by Ineos, a British company, doing everything possible to create a super, super, super solid vehicle. So, if you have the chance, don’t hesitate to get your hands on this dinosaur-cars like this simply aren’t made anymore. And as for the technical side, believe me, the latest-generation BMW engines powering it are incredibly reliable.

Jim here from Crown Ineos St Pete FL. I am one of the Sales Ambassadors for the Ineos Grenadier. Great Video! Ineos is coming with an update to disable the over speed warning in the near future but for the mean time there is a quick fix. You can go into general settings, select CCI favorites and select ISA (intelligent speed assist) . That will set your FAV button on the bottom control panel. When pressing that it will bring you straight to the over speed warning section on the infotainment screen and simply select it off - a two step process but simple enough. You can also go into the acoustic settings and select the warning sound to be low which won’t be as loud of a click click sound if you forget to turn it off. Hope that helps and gets you to consider putting yourself in the Grenadier! Here to help best I can and feel free to reach out if anyone is interested. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Just a safety note...one of my buddies was carrying his spare wheels/tires in his old Range Rover Classic (probably about the same weight as in this video) several years ago; just like this-not secured. He was just going down to his workshop 2 miles from his house. A lady slammed on her brakes in front of him and all those tires nearly killed him and destroyed both front seats, the center of the dash and the windshield. He was really lucky. Please secure your load even when going just a short distance or even a short course like this. Gravity is real!!

With the Grenadier, You have to be in low-range and Center diif, then you can engadge rear diff first, then front diff, in that order. If you take center diff out it will disengage front and rear diff too. On the slippy hill with the front diff error, you tried engadging the front diff before the rear diff was engadged, this caused the error you mentioned. You also cant use hill decent control with the front and rear diff engadged, it individually breaks each wheel, so this wouldn't work with front and rear diff engadged.

he was just trying to do engage it incorrectly. Centre diff locked and low. Engage the rear diff lock roll forward or back a few inches and the light stops blinking and it is engaged. Then do the same with the front diff lock. He was pushing buttons so many times the system assumed something was wrong. When you disengage the lockers the blinking lights just tell you the system is waiting to confirm they are unlocked. If they are blinking then they are unlocked and you can feel it. Easiest way to disengage them all is either unlock the centre diff and then all 3 will disengage or unlock the rear diff and the front will also disengage but centre will still be locked.

I pick the Defender, Land Cruiser and Grenadier in that order. But, the Toyota will probably last more without issues and better resale value. The Defender is the coolest of the three overall. The Grenadier has too much cheap plastics everywhere but its the better off-roader hands down with the three lockers, and the worst city ride, they're overpriced, but looks cool. I've driven all of them...

Great video, pitching the top three against each other. Thanks for including metric measurements.

Hi from UK, ISA is NOT compulsory in the UK but it is in The EU ( of which we are no longer a member ) but the grenadier is built in France, hence EU rules - great video nonetheless 👍👍

I still would get the land cruiser. So much cheaper and you can have the extra money to add some mods to it like tires and suspension lift. Use the extra money for fun trips haha.

I know Ineos Grenadier quite well, it is a proper 4x4 car with powerful boosters ( dif locks) but you need to know how to use it. I know that men don't like to read instructions but in this case it is obligatory. In fact enabling locks is key here....otherewise it won't work. Gear box on neutral, central dif and low gear on than press for "one mississippi " rear differential once ( once not twice ) and than press "one mississippi " front lock also once. Easy peasy lemon squeezy :)

The wheel and tire set up. You have on that land cruiser, is perfection You should show where acustomers can order that exact. Wheel and tire set up.

Sorry my ignorance, but why do I need to put the Land Cruiser or any other suv on Neutral when changing the transfer case ?

How did you get the upper trim with the 1958 style headlights?

Pls explain..Grenadier in mud, why does power cut the instant you need to barrel through obstacle..did you lift off?
@BryanPikeАй бұрын
In the Grenadier if you unlock the center, the others will too.
@ronaldrrootiii604029 күн бұрын
Yeah that would be funny if it didn't do that. Imagine having the rear or front locked while the center isn't and all the power goes to the unlocked axle in the locked one doesn't do anything and you're confused😂😂😂

Thanks for the review, I do take issue on the dealer comment. Coming from the peninsula, you are 2 to3 hours from Tacoma or Lynnwood LR dealership. Also, the Grenadier runs in second gear, for downhill you can shift it to first for super low gear.

16:29 too easy, too uneventful? This is the most ridiculous kind of criticism. You’re just not doing anything that’s challenging for the vehicle. That’s not the vehicles fault. It’s just bored by the easy off road course.

LR Defender no hesitation ! And something to add is about how many people will buy the Grenadier ? Probably far less than the one who will decide for the LR Defender. Toyota ? Don’t like it probably for no reason … brilliant video ! Many thanks 😊

Nice review and comparison, thank you for that. But I have to agree with some previous commentators. Such tests would be better if every vehicle had the same tires or tread pattern. But I really enjoyed the comparison. 100% identical tests are not possible anyway. As a long-time Defender driver (V8 and TD5), I would probably take the Land Rover. The Grenadier is more of a Defender than it used to be... but with more electronics and certainly rougher than the others. But the Grenadier's price is steep. I like Toyota too, but as a Defender driver you can't say that :-) Seriously, Toyota Land Cruisers are very good vehicles. But to me they always had less soul than Defenders;-)

Great episode, Ryan! I am sure it was not easy to bring three of these together at the same time, even if you own one. Also, excellent tests!

Given the tires I have to say I am impressed with the Defender. Seem to be getting a rep for reliability as well….i didn’t believe that one either but seems those built in the last 3 years are good!

Go watch TFL trucks review on the defender. They went through three defenders. They kept breaking every time they took them out.

@@chrismcdowell5515I know and have watched this….i didn’t need putting off a JLR product as I had a Disco 4 which had two major failures and some minor. The JLR dealer here in the UK was appalling at sorting out and I swore I would NEVER have a JLR product again. BUT I am on the Landrover forum am here in the UK and despite early issues, it seems that they have got the Defender into what seems an acceptable position. I drive a Toyota Prado (Landcruiser here in the UK) so that may tell you where I am….but I have a number friends running the Defender with no problems at all…a few take them out to the rough stuff in North Africa and East down to the ,Stans….and get back again!! Will still take some time before I am convinced though!

I really like your comparison video. I live in the U.S. and ordered the First Edition in February. Back then, hardly any videos. I started debate between Bronco, Rubicon & L.C. then switched to Land Rover, Lexus & L.C. (unaware of Grenadier). Mainly had to chose based on track records and I wanted a hybrid (L.R. didn’t have one at the time. Repair records, reliability & capability lead me to choosing the L.C. Constantly run into people who have over 300k miles on their L.C. I was surprised by your pick as the L.C. had the slickest road conditions and 4 high for climb. In addition it only has a 4 cylinder hybrid. The luggage rack on top can support 800lbs. Had this video been around when I was deciding, I would still pick the Land Cruiser.
