Great review. This looks like an amazing vehicle but I would still choose our Venza Limited. I’ve only seen one of these in the wild. It was at the house next door to me which was for sale. The person driving it was a realtor. A 60’s-ish year old woman. My humble opinion, that is going to be the big take demographic for this vehicle. 55+ types. It’s such a weird vehicle. It’s basically just a somewhat large awd-ish sedan with a higher entry/exit position which is good for older folks. It’s somewhat expensive, but not really luxury expensive. Kind of a performance sedan maybe? But not really a performance sedan because its performance isn’t really anything spectacular based on the several reviews I’ve seen. It doesn’t really have much utility since it’s just a sedan with a normal trunk. Doesn’t seem, based on Ryan’s video here that it has any wheel-braking functionality to its AWD so not even that great for trails even if it had ground clearance. It just seems like a vehicle without a home. I think Toyota might have missed with this one. Again just my opinion. Now that being said….the wagon version …..AB-SO-LUTELY!! Awesome video though Ryan. I was sooooo hoping you would take it off-road….and you did. 😂😂

I think it would be a lot more capable with better tires. I’ve taken my old FWD Camry through some pretty shady forest roads and primitive camps, and it never left me stranded. Was the front bumper a bit torn up and did I risk the oil pan repeatedly? Yes. Did it drink oil like crazy? Yes. But she got me through it until getting totalled by a drunk guy on the I-5, and even then I still drove it home.

A little late to the game, but as an owner of a 2024 Crown Hybrid Max platinum, I need to mention that the reviewer introduces the Crown as Toyota's replacement for the Avalone. Yes, that is Toyota's plan, a full size sedan with some sport (not off road terrain) appeal. Has this so-called reviewer ever taken an Avalone off road? AWD, or not, a luxury sedan is not a Jeep Wrangler (thank heavens for that!). I really liked the styling of the 2017-ish Avalon. I thought the redesign ruined it on the outside, and was undecided on the interior. But even the 2017... It was too low to the ground for easy in and out and snow clearance... And the trunk without pass-through on the hybrid was not an option for me. Ended up with a Subaru Outback Limited and feel like I got everything I wanted. The Toyota Crown Estate is intriguing, but I think the pricing keeps the Outback a better value. Thanks for reviewing the Crown from your perspective! You helped my decide on the Outback.

What exactly does it mean when Toyota says 80% of the total torque can be sent to the rear? Seems like a bit of marketing to me. Toyota says the rear motor is good for 79hp and 124lb-ft, and the 2.4 turbo produces 264hp and 332lb-ft (which is only mechanically coupled to the front axle right?).

That Crown crossover-sedan is an odd looking vehicle indeed. What were the designers thinking? The back end is funky. “Platinum” shouldn’t be a Toyota trim option. It should be “LE”, “XLE” and “Limited”. Anything beyond “Limited” should be a Lexus. That being said, what the heck is Lexus doing offering base trims? They are a premium brand. As for the Crown, a hood prop rod, manual steering wheel adjustment lever, no front seat thigh extension supports, no power rear window and rear glass sunshades? This thing is a Crown in name only. C’mon Toyota, as a Toyota and Lexus owner, I expect more from you. Set the bar high and keep your customers.

Toyota has more cross shopping sedans and SUVS than any other automaker. I wish they could use this power train on the ES OR RX. Minus the CVT

Wow! Crown came to America? when i was a kid, i think we used to have Cresida Crowns running around. Don't think they came back after that until the second hand import scene exploded, and even then, crowns have been exceedingly rare!

I looked at these before settling with my Outback. The issue was that Toyota only offered that horrendously dreadful black interior. Toyota seems to have chosen black for 95% of the vehicles on their lots as well.

Pretty funny! However, I don’t think Toyota has ever called it a crossover sedan, have they? Always just a sedan.
