I had never really thought much about face validity before, but you made me realize how important it is for the athlete to think that what they are doing will actually be helpful to them.

I like how in this video you explained the WHY applied this to real life instead of just going over the content, i.e., in the beginning when you explained why we test athletes instead of using the competition as the test.

The information on validity was very educational. I think some topics that are included in content validity aren't always looked at as a top priority to consider for training, but I think it's a super important part for some individuals.

I think it is important that athletes understand the reason in which why they are being tested and the validity is a huge part of that. A lot of athletes get tested but not a lot of them know why or cannot visualize what they will be doing (i.e. face validity). Knowing this can help them improve their scores on these tests and can help the testers get better results

This is great information and really enjoyed the part when you talked about pretesting, mid-testing, and post-testing. I feel that this is very overlooked in the programming world because we want to see progress in athletes and believe our systems our working, but we do not spend time testing their progress during the training period and even after the training period.

It makes sense that a 1RM test is safer than a 3RM test, given that you only need to focus on max effort and proper technique throughout one rep rather than three.

@@DrJacobGoodin Thanks for the response!Huge question I have for the cscs practical section, questions that involve: "baseball player has 80th percentile bench press, 50th percentile aerobic endurance, 90th percentile push up test" what should athlete work on in pre season? Any tips for those type questions?
@DrJacobGoodin
@DrJacobGoodin 3 жыл бұрын
@@strivemore Yeah that's a great question. There will most likely be several questions in that format, and my best advice is to study the normative tables from the textbook so that you can a) identify which scores are the lowest for that level of athlete, and b) pair up the testing results with the demands of the sport. In your example, it's hard to say because baseball athletes don't need a ton of aerobic endurance, and 80th and 90th percentile is very high already. Usually I've seen questions where one test that was important for the sport was low, but you wouldn't know that unless you were familiar with what a good score would be. A bit long-winded but I hope that helps!

Hey Dr. Goodin, I can't differentiate between construct and content validity. The example of a questionnaire makes sense for content validity, but the other example you gave about the agility v COD tests sounds a lot like construct validity. How does that example differ from the local muscular endurance vs. muscular strength example given for the upper body for construct validity? Thank you!

This is great! I have a slight confusion with differentiating between Interrater and Intrarater because between and within raters kinda feels like the same thing to me. I feel like they both would decrease test reliability? Does anyone have any tricks they used to help them separate the two? Thanks in advance
@DrJacobGoodin
@DrJacobGoodin 3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question-I find myself sometimes forgetting which is which! Inter- is a prefix that means between, and intra- is a prefix which means within. Inter-rater reliability means that two or more raters are reliable when compared to each other. Intra-rater reliability means that a single rater is reliable with his/her own measurements. And both of them do contribute to overall reliability, as you correctly surmise.
