I used to regret school more than I do now. But I still occasionally salivate imagining a job with the least amount of responsibility possible.

As one of "you shouldn't" people i'll say. People who wants to be a medic definetly should talk not only for actual medics of profile they want to be. But also with the friends, family and especially kids of medics. About what that profession would actually do with their parents. The part most people forgot about. Work definetly would change you, your perception and your behaviour. As a medic you'll became cold, unloving, irrational, cynic, evil, harmfull person with no time for your family and friends. Especially if you will work with death, trauma and insanity. The stress will suck all your humanity out of you drop by drop. You'll slowly became a dementor and would suck joy from your kids and spouse. Be ready either not have a family at all or visit a psychiatrist regularly to remain human. Also you would have high chances to became alcoholic nd mostly your life ends lonely. (Grandson of a head surgeon, son of dantist. Knew more then 100 medics and their families. None of them are happy or mentally healthy). The profession of a doctor is the service of maintaining life even in those who do not deserve it. And the price for this will often be self-sacrifice.
