I am so happy I found your channel! I am a born-again knitter (long break after my kids wouldn't wear my lil kid sweaters-bratz) and a Knit Collage KAL brought me back! I am aiming to learn color work and lots of other knitting skillz and I feel like your a wonderfully knowledgable and accessible, friendly guide! I'll come to one of your KAL's soon! Thanks for your podcast!

Haven’t spun for socks yet but I have been told Cheviot is a good fiber. Have 2 braids stashed 😁👏👏👏👏👏 and on the spinner it will go today! Thanks for the pop up today. Happy Monday 🤗

I only have a drop spindle. So I might try and spin my fiber with that for socks. I know its a lofty goal. If not I will just knit a pair of drk everyday socks with some yarn I already have. I really do love your podcasts and they inspire me to try new things. I also love how fun your personality is. Thanks

I love spinning yarn and I am coincidently knitting my 7 year old son some socks from yarn that I spun on my drop spindle. Socks are always a challenge for me because I really love knitting hats and gloves but the idea of doing this with other people is intriguing. I love your podcasts! And thanks to you I am planning on knitting a sweater from my handspun for the very first time. I am excited and nervous to do it but that is my goal this year.

I think I want to join in. Spinning for socks is my go-to spin. I even have some vanilla ribbed socks in hand spun on my sock needles right now. I may use some hand spun that was finished awhile ago, but yes. I’m in! I love that you talk about your spinning on your podcast. I headed down the spinning rabbit hole just before the last Sock Summit in 2011 and never looked back. I started with drop spindles, then bought a Lendrum, and lastly a Hansen e-spinner. And it’s always time for more socks. Thanks for the SKAL

What’s your favorite fiber for socks?
@susanrubin650
@susanrubin650 2 жыл бұрын
@@nattiejanes Falkland is a favorite. I also like added silk for strength. I have yet to spin up any down breeds, but would like to do so. I’m usually looking for a springy yarn, something that’s going to easily go back to shape, which I’ve found that in some Falkland. Key though is spinning high twist singles, and I always spin 3-ply, although never chain ply. Judith MacKenzie encourages spinning a 5-ply, but knows nobody will do it. Cable yarns are also supposed to be excellent for socks.

Hi Andrea. I'm new to your channel all the way from Cambridge, New Zealand. I've been spinning and knitting for the last twenty years but spinning for socks is realitively new for me, as is sock knitting. Only started knitting socks about 18 months ago and I'm hooked. I will have a look through my stash and see what I can find and join in. Love your channel.

Thank you for this KAL and can't wait to start. Can you give some advice about using superwash wool for socks, i.e., care, knitting process, stretching issues, etc. It would be a great topic. Love your talks, tutorials and motivation/inspiration. Stay warm during this Maine snowstorm this weekend. I know I will be enjoying the beauty of the Maine snow while knitting in my comfy chair.

This is coming at the perfect time! I am a spinner but I've never spun for socks. I also usually use my matchless for spinning and my hansen for plying, but I'm ready to mix it up too. I'm off to obtain some sock appropriate fiber. Thanks for coming up with this sock spin KAL.

Next time you want the color from the center, just rewind the ball from the outside. Then your color is on the outside. Also a comment for a previous video regarding the Hansen. I use the orifice reducers on my Hansen. It is so helpful for spinning fiber yarns. I also use the lace flyer which is fantastic.

Oh this sounds great! I've been spinning since 2015 (I think), but VERY sporadically. Started doing more lately since I got an Electric Eel Wheel 6.0. My original wheel is a Schacht Sidekick, a fold-able wheel that I chose because I live in a motorhome, traveling full time. Small space. Also, have the Eel Wheel Nano, which is great for space issues and very affordable. Surprisingly good spinner. I have a braid of Anzula BFL that I'd love to make socks out of, so that's my plan. Got a Corriedale undyed sweater quantity spin going on the Eel 6.0 so will probably get out the Sidekick for this. Getting excited....

I'm really excited to spin and knit with you! The fiber I am spinning isn't appropriate for socks so I'll be using other yarn for that. Plus as a novice spinner, my yarn is no consistent enough for socks yet. (but I feel comfortable using it for mitts or maybe a hat.)

If you haven’t found it already, the KZbin channel Fiber Love Diary did a little breed study for spinning for socks. She spun I think 4 specific breeds people say are good for socks, Dorset was one of them if I recall correctly. She then knit 3 samples and hand washed one, washing machine air dry one and the washer dryer the third. It was super interesting!

Hi ! I am a new spinner too since the beginning of the pandemic lol I got a fleece from a sheep farm , skirted it , washed it , combed it and now is the time to spin it … what a long process but SO gratifying! It looks just like mohair with a one strand and couldn’t wait and knitted a sample just to cozy up to it lol I have three bobbins now that needs to be plyed… could you please explain me the trick for that three ply that you mentioned quickly …? Thanks!

I don't see the link to ask a question on this episode, so I'll ask my question here. I got your DRK Everyday sock pattern back in the fall when you talked about them. I love a ribbed sock and am interested in the Fleegle heel. I would be interested to know how that heel wears compared to the trusty heel flap and gusset heel. Also, when I work the increases for the gusset I'm not getting a nice clean increase line. I've started the increases over numerous times and just can't get it to look like I think it should. I looked at numerous projects on Ravelry and didn't note any comments that other knitters seem to be having the same problem. I didn't find any pics that showed their socks clear enough that I could see how they are turning out. Any chance you could address this ? Could you show your sock close enough we could see that line of increases? Maybe even make a tutorial ? I would like to knit up the DRK Everyday socks if I can get those increases to look good. Thanks for your videos and patterns, love them !

I am a very new spinner, I am still trying to get more consistent with the thickness of my spun yarn. It is a shame it is a hashtag on instagram, it would be lovely to have a video call spin along more like a meet in person via video. But then, having said that, I work shifts and I find that it is hard to turn up for things like this on a regular basis lol T x

I'm so stoked for this KAL! I've been spinning since I was in high school in the 90's while working at Halcyon Yarn in Bath, and have loved it since. I've got some Southdown that's perfect for hand knit socks. Now to dye it in some fun colors... I normally spin my sock yarn on my e-spinner since I can get it much finer than on my regular wheel. I noticed last episode that you mentioned having to use the button to start and stop your Hansen - do they make a foot pedal for your model? It makes it so much easier to tap it on and off with your foot rather than using a switch on and off.
@dreareneeknits
@dreareneeknits 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I use the foot pedal :) For me it's more the difference between the immediate stop I can achieve when treadling, compared to the slow shut off and turn on of the motor on the Hansen!
