NME (bastards) and the press destroyed them, but other bands and musicians loved them, I was part of the huge dedicated Mansun fanbase, and always will be. Six is genius, a major a highlight of 90's British guitar rock. Legendary.

Mansun are one of those groups everyone forgets about (including me) , which is weird seeing as they had sustained success over five years . Maybe because they never had that huge hit that seared itself into the nations consciousness , or maybe they were overshadowed by other groups with bigger personalities and better press (that era of the late nineties was an incredibly crowded field of great groups) . An underappreciated group.

One thing, among several, that I will always love Mansun for is their willingness to gig in out of the way places. Of the 5 times I saw them, three of those venues had the words "corn exchange" in their names! Can't you tell I'm East Anglian;)

I got into Mansun in the late 90s and have been pining for a band as amazing as them ever since. Their lyrics in Six and Little Kicks really resonated with me. All the greatest bands split up eventually and get replaced with artists who can never live up to their predecessors.

@@MrMansun95It seems that Paul is a bit of a pathological liar. From the post I saw, Dominic Chad wants absolutely nothing to do with him or the others for the rest of his life. Six is the most amazing album I've ever heard and it still sounds fresh today.. Yes, there could have been more amazing singles on there like the 2nd part of Cancer, Television, Special blown it and Being a Girl were all kind of like 2 different songs in one.. Fallout should have been released as a single instead of negative the only song I'm not crazy about on the album. Negative was never a single but they went ahead and released it.. It didn't do that well but it did appear on eastenders for an aids scene. Love Serotonin which reminds me of a Prog Duran Duran.. Didn't like the finished released single edit of Six which I thought they messed up. Being a Girl was a cracking single and the 2nd part was just as good. The Stand out for me was the Fall Out guitar solo the synths on the Cancer part 2. This album was a grower as it didn't hit you immediately and critics are supposed to know this but of course they overlooked this album gave it one listen then threw it in the bin. Of course Mansun didn't play the media like Oasis, Blur and the rest of the trash that was around at that time did so they folded not long after the third album which was ok but a bit pop commercial.

Imagine if they'd been on a different label, hadn't had to do such gruelling tours or had been better supported on the ones they did, had been given time off after tours instead of being sent straight back into the studio, had not been pressured to do commercial-ish songs (I personally like Fool but listening to it with Paul's comments in mind I can understand why he sees it as one done to please the company) and so on. Then they might still be together. Or if not together, then only just split up. Or that half together, half split up state that bands get into these days when they do solo stuff or work with other bands and get back together every four or five years for another album. They would have changed over time because that was their nature (and especially Paul's songwriting), and they changed massively just in the three albums they did.

Six is an incredible album, still in my absolute top 10 albums. Its a shame that it transpired that Paul Draper pretty much screwed it for everyone, while blaming the rest of the band, management, record company people and pretty anyone he could think of. Dominic Chad detests him now, so there's absolutely zero chance of a Mansun reunion, which is a shame because recent videos of Paul on his "Six" tour are absolutely shocking. He's a complete shell of himself now.
@Prizzy999 Жыл бұрын
Funny that Paul didn't mention what he's been claiming in recent years it was the reason behind the band split: Stove stealing from the band's account. Maybe it's because that never happened, and he had the decency not to say that in the documentary. I've been a Mansun fan since '98 but I don't believe a single word Paul's been saying in the last years' interviews when he talks about the dynamics within the band.

Mansun could have been huge if they'd only done what Status Quo had done. Status Quo started of as a very intellectual prog band but soon found out that the public demand more simple songs which is why we saw bands like Oasis and Blur get so much success. Mansun's second album basically saw the end of the band even though they did put out a 3rd studio album. The album sounds so bland because the lead singer was basically hindered from putting out another prog record. Mansun had so many good songs, that they'd often end up as b - sides. The wasted so many goods songs on EPs as they'd often put four extra tracks with the single, even more in some cases. So just two EPs was enough material for an LP or album. Mansun could have easily put out at least five to six more albums worth of material such was the amount of songs they produced. If you listen to Drapers solo albums, it just goes to show that there were even more albums in Mansun worth of quality material. Personally I think the band suffered from dreadful management as the potential was there to be a worldwide success.
