Don’t make them that way then. Newton’s law of physics applies here. Each action has an equal reaction. If they’re getting jealous, you must have done something to make them feel that emotion or it wouldnt have surfaced in the first place. Its a biochemical reaction to something you’ve done thats hurt them. Sink that in and you’ll see where I’m coming from.

This is my favorite post of all Dr. Carter. Your last couple sentences took me almost 60 years to conclude about who the N. decided I would be. I loved 4:00 …”so what are you gonna give me next…even the giving has a “taking” angle.” Even discovering new hobbies, new outlooks on parenting and letting children go, new ways of enjoying holidays, not getting drawn into drama/gossip, makes the N. annoyed. It’s so unpleasant being the primary person who gets scrutinized, and is the comparison focus. Thank you always for making our awarenesses even clearer.

Jealousy is a terrible thing and causes great loneliness. My closest childhood friend told a mutual friend that it must be nice to have what I have and that I married for money. (I didn’t.) My sister has always copied and tried to one-up me so we are not close. I have been dumped by friends because I was seen as “competition.” They didn’t want their boyfriends around me. I had to let go of my best friend bc she expected me to pay her way every single time since I had more money. She would start fights and say I have never struggled (I have!) and act entitled like I owed her. The final straw was when she walked into my new home for the first time she broke down crying. And not out of joy. After 20+ years of cutting these jealous people out, there is no one left. It’s pathetic to have no friends or close family at my age. Why can’t people who supposedly love you just be happy for you?

I knew a woman who was married to a cheater. He'd always accuse her of being suspicious, insecure and jealous in an attempt to gaslight her into thinking she was crazy. One of his favorite things to do when she suspected him of running around behind her back was to sarcastically start singing the song "Suspicious Minds" to mock her and try and make her feel guilty and ashamed. She got fed up with his manipulations, hired a private detective to follow him, confirmed that he was in fact a serial cheater and divorced him. In any case, over a lifetime, I've seen lots of people use the "You're just jealous!" excuse to try and cover up misdeeds and it's always been accompanied by accusations of the person being "suspicious and untrusting" along with manipulative comments such as, "You must not think much of me as a person to think that I'd treat you that way or do things like that!" Generally speaking, I've learned that if you smell a rat, it's not your imagination-it's because there's one scurrying around in your life.

Jealous envious prone people go beyond feelings. Everyone gets jealous you are a liar if you say you don’t. But these type of people take it to extremes. They befriend or pretend to like and respect you while trying to tear and destroy you slowly mistreatment out of envy. I learnt the longest experience I’ve faced with envious women were based on my weight. I work out for my health. If they just took better care of themselves too and put in the work they wouldn’t have the energy and time to take envious to a whole other level of hatred and everything mentioned in this video and then some. This was very insightful. I see all these traits in narcissism. I believe the heart of the issue is low self worth. They hate themselves, and you cannot appreciate and love others if you're self loathing. The contempt they have for others is projection. They need you to feel as bad as they do. They want you to feel worthless and to be as destructive as they are. Jealous people are inevitably self destructive. Great video!

My neighbor is like that. As long as you do favors for her, she's all smiles but the minute she thinks she has to do something for you her REAL personality comes out. It's all about her and her house, her car, her this and her that. She was playing all the neighbors for a while and then going behind our backs and talking about each to the other. She's the type who can ask you for favors, drop in on you and call you but she doesn't want anybody dropping in on her or calling her. We finally got fed up with her and we've all cut her off. Also telling everybody's business to the other one. Rotating around the neighborhood. That was her everyday activities / entertainment. So, she's dead in the water now because nobody does favors for her anymore or listens to her lies or phony sob stories and she has nobody to gossip to. I've met some loony birds in my lifetime, but nobody comes even close to her looniness

You just described almost every way in which my covert narc mother acted . Besides me being her rage targeted scapegoat , she railed against the neighbours and pretty much all other relatives behind their backs of course - some of the ones she spoke the worst about were actually her flying monkeys - never knowing what she really thought of them . Much of the rage was very jealous fuelled - little attempt to hide it . Once as a teenager I accused her of being jealous of me during a verbal abuse session . She amusingly screamed back at me 'I'M JEALOUS OF NOBODY !!!" . Another day another lie . NO CONTACT is the only way to achieve some peace from these people .

She lied and told the sibling how she missed me and never wanted to end the friendship....years later the male friend sent me a message, "we love you" i thought that was odd, but we never spoke again....its shocking that someone would go that far to hurt another person

My ex to a T. And man let me tell you, if I was kind to any other woman, no matter what age or what they looked like, I was punished by her, as she proceeded to flaunt her"assets" for anyone who would pay attention. Of course now in hindsight, and learning over the years more about this type of personality, I realize that in no way did this person love me at all. Her passive aggressive behavior is now in full light. But unfortunately, hindsight is often 20/20. I had a close friend for close to forty years--she actually told me that she was envious of my freedom. She herself and her husband have made many bad financial decisions to the point where her 78 year husband still has to work fulltime despite them both collecting social security. What got me was that she had also told me how happy she was that other friends got to travel and go places (!?) She also started getting very demanding that I stay over night whenever I came up to spend holidays with. She's in her early 70's. I cannot rule out Dementia because of her age and the overnight personality change!! There is a difference between jealousy and envy; envy is resentful of someone having something that you don't have, jealousy is being afraid that something or someone will be taken from you.

Thank you Dr. Carter & Gus! Yes, the narcissist does refer to people as a thing, a possession, isolated, controlled, scripted. Yesterday, my AH offered to go to my favorite $5 store with me. (which he NEVER does) As soon as we arrive he says he has to URGENTLY go to the restroom. He disappears for over 45 minutes (to go #1). I had no idea where he was & what was going on I am standing at the front of the store getting concerned. Hence, I call him and ask, where are you? His response, "I am at the other end of the parking lot (a block away) sitting under a tree." Now I ask, Why? Then he admits, which I find extremely disturbing,"I can see you looking around for me." I am thinking, "WHO DOES THIS?" Yup, a narcissist! Breadcrumbs. He promised a good time & gave me a weird experience. We did get to go in store an hour later. But the feeling of good changed.

I agree. I think a jealous person uses triangulation because they want you to feel how they feel. Especially if you're pretty they will use triangulation to make you think what's up is down and down is up. They resent that you have a happy life and was handed good things so they will tear what you have down to make it seem like nothing special. They speak in untruth don't believe them. @Sunny Baby join clubs that interest you, or take dancing lessons or look up "Meet Up" groups on line. You can meet people & take your time getting to know them. Don't let them use you in any fashion - for example, the person who says "oh I don't have a car, can you give me a lift or pick me up?" Say you're sorry it's not my car so I'll have to find a ride as well. I can meet you at a location. (Park away from the event location & excuse yourself to meet your ride when it's time to go & don't let them tag along until "your ride shows up". Just say "I gotta go, see you later!" Then turn & walk away.) Manipulation starts with small things & works into larger controlling forms. If they made it to an event on their own then they can continue to do so without your help. Let the relationship go like this for months until you feel that this person isn't trying to use you. It's sad to have to be so cautious but it's necessary to remain free of deceitful people..
