Hi. We're from Wales. We make Hawthorn ketchup (cook it with apple cider vinegar and sugar) .We also add garlic and chilli to the ketchup for a hot sauce. It's a great way to eat the Haws. And tasty! Thanks for your video. Great work.

Wow that sounds excellent! I will definitely try that. Mmm, hawthorn hot sauce or salsa would be delicious.

I bought three hawthorn trees a year ago...they are surviving, but not big...i will be taking these with me when I move. Ive been buying organic hawthorn powder and making my own capsules for two years. I heard this was good for palpitations.. which I was getting quite often a few years ago, matter of fact I would wake in the middle of the night with the palpitations, sweating, heart beating fast....since I started taking these...I havent had any of that!

I've just started my home apothecary and hawthorn is part of my home medicine chest. I was wondering if once a tincture is made with the dried berries; (mine is curing in a 80 proof vodka), can the berries be re-used for something else or are they too spent after being in the alchohol? I also have a batch in raw apple cider vinegar. Will it be just as affective as the one with alchohol or not as affective?

You could use the drained tinctured berries to make a syrup/sauce. This has the advantage of longer preservation due to the alcohol. Add more water, low simmer until soft, mash, strain, add honey or sugar. Vinegars generally extract less medicinal compounds than alcohol, but are great for using like food or for those avoiding alcohol. There’s many uses for these red gems!
