Major difference in this format and esl 1) esl was a breakaway league with it's own promotion/relegation so ignoring the domestic league importance 2) top teams playing against each other only but in cl even small teams get to play big team so good exposure and revenue for them Also this new format aims in making later matchdays more relevant let's see how this goes

Imo, UCL should be held with 40 teams by 8 groups of 5. Where each team will play with groupmates once which means 2 home + 2 away matches. After that, 8 group champion gets a bye to Round of 16. And the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will play an two legged cross-group playoff. 8 winners from that will move to RO16. Then all matches will be two legged except final. In that case, Total number of match: 125 (Same as previous format) Maximum total match for finalists: 13 (previously it was also 13)
