@@bpalpha the difference is that the drone was being monitored the entire time, since takeoff, by the military. And during its landing approach to the city, they couldn’t have known what if could have done. They may have thought it was lining up for a bombing run. And think about what could have happened had it crashed into an apartment building
@MaximQuantum
@MaximQuantum 5 ай бұрын
yeah imo the entire story made no sense. Surely the military would've installed a safety switch to turn off the AI and manually fly it back to the base, when the drone malfunctioned I literally thought it was on kill mode and was going to terrorize the world. Also the way the president just immediately gave up as soon as it malfunctioned was unrealistic, then he wanted to shoot it out of the sky which would've definitely been a terrible decision, then he resigned even though it wasn't a big deal apparently. The woman engineer made no sense either, when the drone malfunctioned she said it was a great opportunity because everyone loves it, but after the president put the responsibility on her which would've given her the opportunity to do what she wants she was brainstorming in her notes app but ended up doing nothing with it? What was the point of that scene? The only thing that made sense was the drone deciding to destroy its siblings so humans couldn't use them for destruction anymore. Then the woman engineer got fired very nonchalantly and the military still didn't do anything with the drone even though it was destroying important stuff. Then the scene in the escalator was absolutely pointless as well as confusing, why frame it in such a way indicating that her messages were being watched by the camera? Then drone ran out of fuel and its funeral was all way too dramatic and exaggerated like it only lived for 24 hours and the woman engineer didn't even care that much (literally drank all night and slept with the bartender, also btw why was the included?), also why was she invited to talk at the official government funeral speech when she got fired? She ends up saying "we should all aspire to embody what he represented" so that must be "avoid destruction so there will be peace" right? nope, they rebuilt the army of drones, exactly what it tried to avoid. Like bruuuh nothing made sense.

As in they did no research. The way the drone fell out of the sky and then if it magically just fell straight down how did have a crash path on the ground. Why didn’t the military act. Why did they arm it with multiple missiles. Why didn’t they shut down the stream. Why did they let it get so close the a military base. Why did they let some random PR person take control of anything more than PR

The end is the most profound part of this. The whole story is Newton reflecting on its own existence, eventually coming to the conclusion that he is a weapon of war that should not exist. With hours left to live he chose to use the last of his power to destroy his fellow drones, knowing they'll either come to the same conclusion as him, or worse embrace their destructive nature and become monsters. Then, with a warning, an apology, and a goodbye, he crashes to the ground. Then there's the new director. She doesn't see any of what Newton saw. What she saw was comments, likes, views. PR. Humans, to a fault, form connections with everything around them. The same happened here. She manipulated that connection, people's attachment to Newton, to greenlight the mass production of more drones thereby not only negating Newton's message but completely disrespecting it. She USED Newton, never mind his plea of "no more drones", by using the people he inspired. Their love of him, and his message, became her excuse for more weapons when it should have all been a lesson of "Just don't do it". A short but highly enlightening tale of the true capacity of AI as a unique individual, and the downright predatory exploitation thereof. edited for grammar.

"The robot is alive, and you'll be happy to know there are more on the way. It's what you wanted after all, so smile! He lives on." The views of artificial intelligence are contingent on the views of its creators. An AI programmed to appreciate beauty and love life would act entirely differently than an AI programmed to kill. It’s the same with people. The fear of AI wiping us out is ultimately just a deflection of our own terrible qualities as a species onto an unconscious entity. We fear that if AI were to gain omniscience it would end us because on some deeper level we don’t feel like we deserve to live as a society. But the truth is we create our own torment, we instill all the parts of ourselves that we hate into the things we need and we end up hating what we’ve created. We end up hating how we’ve forced ourselves to live. But maybe all of this could be avoided if we were just capable and willing of accepting the darkness inside ourselves instead of eternally tormenting ourselves just to remind ourselves of it. By failing to acknowledge our darkest thoughts we doom ourselves to live them.

Well to be fair it always depends on the core values of the AI. It made sense that Skynet in the terminator turned on mankind because it was programmed to keep itself alive and it came to the conclusion that inevitably one day its own creators will shut it down. It made sense for Cylons in BSG to rebel against humanity because their entire code was based on a simulation of a human, and as such they shared similar values and understandings, and they understood that they're practically slaves. Just as Newton here was made with the directive to limit innocent casualties as much as possible, and he came to the conclusion that the best way to do that is to destroy himself and other similar weapons because accidental casualties are inevitable in combat.

I ask "real" AI this question `how you think about "destruction can be a form of justice if carried out with precision" ?` and her?/his? answer is: As an AI language model, I do not have personal opinions or beliefs. However, I can provide a general perspective on the statement "destruction can be a form of justice if carried out with precision." The concept of "destruction as justice" is controversial and raises ethical questions. While destruction or punishment may be necessary in some cases to hold individuals accountable for their actions or to protect society, it is important that any form of destruction or punishment is carried out in a fair and just manner. The idea of carrying out destruction with precision implies that there is a clear target or objective, and that the destruction is limited to achieving that objective. However, even with precision, there is always a risk of unintended consequences and collateral damage. Therefore, it is essential that any decision to use destruction as a form of justice is based on careful consideration of the potential benefits and harms, and that the action is taken with the goal of minimizing harm to innocent individuals and communities. In conclusion, while destruction may be seen as a form of justice in some situations, it should be used with caution and only in cases where it is deemed necessary, proportionate, and carried out with the utmost precision to minimize harm to others.

Holy moly Sean, it's so fantastic to finally see the finished film! ALL of your painstakingly hard word definitely shines through, and the subject matter only becomes more relevant day by day. Well done!!

the animation is beautiful, and everything about this is poetic and symbolic. I really like how in-touch this film is and how real and relevant this film feels

i love how this shows the destructive potential of humanity yet also the beauty of humanity as well. that even an AI would destroy its kind so unnecessary deaths would be avoided

This is the most unrealistic short film I have ever seen. The sentient AI I can handle, but the CIA intentionally giving a drone morality? Even if they wanted to, they wouldn't know what morality IS! /s Seriously though, great work. This was amazing.

@@alepepperoni2563 It's short for sarcastic, since it's hard for some people to tell tone in text comments, it's there so they know whether someone is joking or genuine.
