Tucker, I have watched you from the beginning. Your are the reason I am taking PPG lessons now. I watch this video and get a sick feeling in my stomach for your safety. Your skills are top notch, but there is so much you cannot control. I have seen this with two ppl in my life that died riding motorcycles. They were both very skilled with yrs of experience, and their number came up when they were taking risks riding on the edge. Please take it easy man. You are the number 1 ambassador in the world for this sport. Much love and respect man.
@grejen7112 жыл бұрын
As an ambassador for PPG KyleO gets my nomination. Tucker here is very 'watchable' and I realize he's the de-facto youtube representation of the sport/hobby/activity. But listen to him when he says "I don't recommend this ..." His experience bucket is filled to the brim so when his luck bucket empties it's not disasterous.

Complacency…When pilots get enough experience to get too comfortable is one of the major contributors of aviation accidents. The hot air balloon foot drag is the one that scared me. There was no altitude for recovery if something went wrong.

I sort of guessed that the drone wouldn't arm when you tossed it like that 😂 There's a setting in Betaflight (the open source software it most likely uses) that doesn't let it arm when it's tilted past a set angle. It's there to prevent it from accedentally arming in someone's hand. It'd be cool to see you try that again after disabling that feature!

This video worries me and I'm left asking "Why?" as the risks you take are so unnecessary, fun yes but life changing or life ending should you miss by just 2 inches. It's not worth it mate and now I'm torn between not watching anymore videos or accepting that one day I may hear the news I really don't want to hear. Complacency kills mate, keep it safe.

"But the important thing is that I didn't" One could say that the important thing is that you chose to do it regardless. You didn't pay for it, this time. See "Normalization of Deviance". I'm not a safety at all costs guy by any measure, but it's important to be able to personally define some red lines that remain that way regardless of skill level. Is flying within a couple inches of a fence and hanger genuinely worth it? Is that really sufficiently compelling?

@DragakuRandom2 жыл бұрын
The sport is as safe as you make it. You don't have to fly as risky as Tucker does. I love just doing calm flights on calm days and exploring. Though I would like to one day learn to do wing overs high up, I don't fly enough to get that good yet. So I fly safe and don't do anything too crazy. If it is something you would like to seriously get into, just get a good A/B wing, have a reserve and flotation (if there is even a little bit of water near you), and enjoy flying safely.
@entelin2 жыл бұрын
It's not that dangerous honestly. Frankly the reason you see so many advanced ppg pilots flying in more risky ways like this is how boring it can be otherwise.
@DinoPwn2 жыл бұрын
@@entelin does it get boring after a while? Id hate to spend 5k on training and 15k on a paramotor only to get bored after a while.
@entelin2 жыл бұрын
@@DinoPwn Depends entirely on your temperament, interest, frequency, and then ultimately if you do want to explore other aspects of it like aerobatics or soaring. I'd certainly recommend it though. The cost can be less with used equipment, and ultimately if you decide to move on from the sport you can sell your gear as well. Regardless learning to fly, and your first 100 hours or so are lifelong memories that I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they regret. I've not flown PPG. I have my pilots license, and I currently fly hanggliders (soaring). I do have friends that fly PPG and soaring friends that fly PG. So I'm around all of that regularly. Personally, flying "real" aircraft did get boring for me after awhile, though I *certainly* don't regret it, and I will get back to it eventually, probably in the form of a powered ultralight, or maybe even PPG. However I don't think anything can compare to how compelling soaring is. With powered flying you are always trying to make your own fun. The sport of soaring has that built in (HG / PG / Sailplanes). I think though that PPG is the safest way to fly casually. And there are wonderful experiences to be had. For example flying above clouds, or early morning over rising / condensing fog. Flying, and especially soaring, connects you with a whole new set of experiences that you really cannot have otherwise.
