Strobilanthes kunthiana, commonly known as Neelakurinji, is a rare and magnificent flower that carpets the hills of Kerala’s Idukki district every 12 years. This year, the stunning blueish-violet blossoms have returned, attracting nature lovers and tourists to the area. Typically found in regions like the Eravikulam National Park, Pambadum Shola National Park, Silent Valley National Park, and parts of Munnar, the flowers have unexpectedly bloomed in the scenic Parunthumpara area of Peermade in Idukki.
The name Nilgiris comes from color of this flower which is endemic to this region only in the world.
