Hi out of interest were you filming this at 4k 25fps on your phantom 4, i have one although after filming things like cars i can sometimes see quite alot of motion blur when i look back at the footage, is there anyway to reduce or stop this?

This is very inspiring. I’ve been doing video production a long time but I just purchased my first drone(mavic air 2 arriving tomorrow) and I’m trying that new aspect for the first time. I’m also planning to use it to finish a mini doc of a car that I restored top to bottom. Super excited to add this drone dimension to it and your video has inspired some great ideas!

Very keen to explore your Masterclass. I'm a camera nut. The real cnonections are - I owned a 69 Mustang GT (as opposed to the 1970 Boss in your video) for 14 years. We just drove most of Scotland in winter (the best time!) this year and our son just married a Glaswegian (at Eileen Donnan Castle) who's name is Annina! Oh I see your name is Alina...close. Good luck with your venture.

Great video! I just have an extra tip you might want to consider: if you know you are going to speed up the footage for a certain shot, it might be a good idea to decrease the shutter speed to increase the amount of motion blur to the point where it looks closer to what it would if the car and drone were traveling at the speed you want to create. Say, if you shoot at 30fps, with a shutter speed at 1/60th normally, but you know that this clip will be sped up 200%, then lower you shutter speed to 1/30th for that shot, so that when you speed it up, the motion blur of the final clip will be about the same as it would normally be if everything was moving that fast when shooting and it was shot using a 1/60th shutter speed.
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
For sure! In reality you really don't want to have to speed up shots so if you plan for it then you can adjust the shutter accordingly. Thanks!

Just back from five amazing days in the Highlands of Scotland, trying to make a short film using my buddy's Datsun 240Z. Three points; 1) how difficult it is to get a Mavic 2 Pro to capture steady in-focus in-frame car footage consistently, hats off to you guys for making it look so smooth. 2) why does my Mavic 2 Pro frequently warn of magnetic material possibly affecting the compass whilst out in the countryside - could it be the ferrous content in the granite? 3) why does my Mavic 2 Pro seem to hunt in and out towards the subject car when using Active Track Trace and Profile modes? Keep up the good work!
@DroneFilmGuide5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Please share the video once you've edited it! (1) We don't show you the bad shots! (2) Get this all the time trying to do a compass calibration standing next to a car. Not had it out in the open mind you. (3) Active Track Trace/Profile are very unreliable. You can get great results but it's hit or miss. Check out one of our most recent videos about our new favourite intelligent flight mode. It's about using Active Track Spotlight mode. Much more stable and arguable even more creative and cinematic.

Absolutely brilliant! How fast did you speed up your footage? And which shutter speed did you use?
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I think these clips were speeded up between 2x and 3x. The shutter was set to get the correct exposure as we were not using ND filters on this shoot. Ideally you want to use an ND filter to have a 1/50th shutter for the 25fps but we lost confidence in them after we got some out of focus footage once. That's a whole other story but as a consequence the motion of the car is a little more jumpy than it should be.

Great video! I have a friend who builds custom muscle cars and we're looking to do a promo video for one of his cars. The question I have is what do you use and where do you record audio from in the car? The sound of a muscle car is just as important as the video of it. Also how would you match up the sound with the drive off? Thanks and I look forward to sharing it after we film it.
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
The sound on this video is fake I am afraid to say! It was a free app that allowed you to pretend you were driving the car and then we did quite a lot of fiddling with volumes in post production to get it to match.

This was very helpful! I was trying to get a shot in a similar situation the other day but our location was mainly grassy/leafy with lots of green. Upon reviewing the footage, we keep getting artifacts, grainy bits in the horizon etc. Is there anything you can recommend doing about this? Because of a situation we'd had, we were on a higher shutter speed than usual - do you think this has caused the artifacts?
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
I shouldn't think the shutter should have been the cause. We normally film without NDs because of some disappointment with them causing fuzzy footage in the past so our shutter is normally 'too' fast also. Is is a Mavic you are flying? Some suggest having sharpness on +1 to reduce noise caused by the DJI noise reduction. Maybe worth a shot? With the P4 you can switch off noise reduction but with the Mavic it seems to be automatic.
@benoitschrijnemakers36557 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it. Well, for this particular client we were flying a P3 Standard because of circumstances. I'm thinking it might have been the bitrate and then there's not much that can be done about that I believe :(

Here's a quick link to a screencap. There's a little grading going on so this is not the original flat image. The problem is obvious though, just look at the trees etc. in the back. Any thoughts? SCREENSHOT: ibb.co/nnnN55

As a matter of fact, done the Scotland tour with the Corvette 2 years ago. Alas with a crappy Blade QX350 that didn't work, so no drone footage from that trip. But it was so amazing (Skye, Applecross Pass, the Highlands, Ullapool) that it's just a matter of time until we'll repeat it.

Any tips for planning your flight when you can't use Google Maps like you did? Many of the places I want to drone is off-road and not a place where I can really plan like that. I love the idea, just trying to figure out how I plan like that when the terrain and trail may not readily allow me to plan well. Great Video! Did you shoot in 60 fps too and took the small quality loss even though you have to crop a lot of the footage? And did I hear that correctly? You flew in the sport mode, cropped it and the rest of the blades just will be hidden by the cinematic bars? Thanks for sharing this insight. Subbed!
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! These were all filmed in 4K at 25fps to allow for the cropping in. The quality of 1080p is really good but I wouldn't want to crop that in 200% so best stick with 4K. For sport mode it was indeed cropped in plus the widescreen bars. Alternatively, set up your shot so you are flying backwards in sports mode and the props will be out of the shot.
@philippblank7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great tip. 4k and 60 fps could be an option too?

For sure on the P4 Pro. Just the regular P4 for us though!
@tennistron5887 жыл бұрын
When flying close to cars, do you try to keep the drone roughly same distance when filming? Any focusing issues?
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
This was filmed on the P4 which doesn't have the tap focus function of the P4 Pro and the Mavic. As such, everything is in focus. Having played around with the Mavic, you really need to set the focus on manual and focus on something in the mid ground. As long as you aren't getting right up close there shouldn't be any focus issues.
@CinemaCaptures7 жыл бұрын
Hey, do you use or like/prefer to use ND filters when shooting vehicles? Thanks!
@DroneFilmGuide7 жыл бұрын
For sure, because there is quite a bit of motion when shooting vehicles it would be best to use an ND filter to get the right motion blur. 1/50th shutter for 25fps here in Europe.

Awwww... it's a make over. :( It's dressed up like a Boss, but there was no 351 Boss in 1970. A 302 or 429. There was a Boss 351 in 1971. Still it looks nice. Candy Apple Red.

Needless to say how amazing all the information you guys are sharing is. I've already watched all your videos and I'm looking forward for the next one. I do appreciate that I might be asking a lot here but If you got a couple of minutes to spare I would love to hear some feedback on my first drone video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYqXZp18mp1_r5o In a couple of months my girlfriend and I will kick-off on a "all over the world" motorcycle trip and we I want to make sure to be ready to fly our "flying beasts" and make the most of it :) Thanks again for the great content, you are a star!

Thanks, great tutorial. Came here from another one you put up regarding dlog and d-cine. Will be using your tips my next time out. I mainly shoot my 69 Datsun 2000. Here are a couple of videos of my efforts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3uvnqejga55kK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIu7l35sjrhraZY I shoot solo so have some limitations with what i can do, but i've used many of the techniques you discussed in this video, post production zooming, speeding up, cropping. Great advice.
