My school is currently retrofitting their existing magnetic rapid start T12 fluorescent lights with LEDs, the new LEDs are dying faster than they can install them and yet most of the fluorescent are from the 1990s and are still going strong and producing around 3350 lumens per tube. Each toffee is 4x2 in size, there are some 2x2 troffers, only one has dying tubes, the rest still work fine with their 20+ year old tubes.

It's definitely hit or miss with the LEDs but you can't win anymore because the LEDs half of them are crap and all the new fluorescent tubes are crap

@@nics-systems-electric yea, here in the states, the LED lighting here absolutely sucks, color rendering is awful. My bedroom at my grandma’s house has sylvania LEDs and the color rendering on them is worse than the older GE CFL that it replaced. The LED panels there aren’t having problems yet but some places that have those very same panels or similar panels like what you have are already dying after 1 to 3 years. The barber (salon) have an ugly looking install and are burning out. I hate LEDs because of that, I will take incandescent (and fluorescent) any day.

@@CG-1000-T fluorescent used to be pretty good here but we've noticed with the fluorescent bulbs we've been installing in the last few years they have been dying after one or two years the quality isn't the same it used to be when they would go for 20 to 30 years

@@nics-systems-electric very true, those T5 tubes are built as well as the old T8 and T12 sizes. I have a F20T12 light from 1986, it is very high hours but hasn’t ran in the past 10 years until I got it when it was removed from its spot along with a rare F30T12 tube and fixture. Both fixture still work fine, the F30T12 needs help starting but it works.

Nice job! The seismic attachments on both commercial and residential fixtures / drop ceilings is a requirement in BC as far as I know.

Curious if they are exactley 2ft x 2 ft as over here in europe, light pannels are typicaly 600mm x 600mm, what works out at 1.96 foot.

I’ll tell you if that seismic thing is a USA thing on my next trip to the ceiling (we have to take stuff from off the shelves) But I think it’s a North America requirement because there’s a ceiling tiles that’s pushed up and it won’t go down because there’s a thing blocking it from going down and it’s near a light
