Thats what happend to one of our small generators at work were it started to fluctuate my boss was a idiot there at the time tries to run his ac unit on there causing an overload all the lights started to flicker on it and soon enough kills the power supply box for the company server if you would believe it

Great video! If I am installing a 30 amp generator to power my main electrical panel with an interlock kit I would assume I unbond the neutral and ground on the generator so the only neutral ground Bond would be inside the main panel. Is that correct? Also would the generator be considered the first disconnect in this case? Or would the main panel be considered the first point of disconnect? Once I am done using the generator to power the main panel, I would then bond neutral and ground if I am using the generator to power individual items.

With a manual transfer switch that I assume does not have switching neutral, should you unbond the neutral on the generator itself? So you wouldn't have 2 neutrals bonded to ground (at the gen and at the main panel)? I did this with my Firman generator and reliance transfer switch.
@nics-systems-electricКүн бұрын
Yes you would unbonded the neutral and ground. But you need to be mindful of if you are going to use it as a portable generator with powering individual items instead of a electrical system as you will then not have a ground that will trip your circuits but you could make a plug that will plug-in and bond the neutral to ground.
@Kiseki_Fan2k24Күн бұрын
@@nics-systems-electric Yes, i have purchased that plug already and use it when i am exercising the generator without any loads on it. Goes into one of the GFCI plugs.

Nic you're doing a wonderful job on your explanations it does make sense. And I really appreciate you young man. But I did see a minor problem with the video. At the timestamp 7:48 you put white letters over white background and I wasn't able to read everything you've said. In upcoming videos could you please use another color like black. Or even keep the white letters. But add a black background or a black trim around each letter behind the letters. So it can be more readable. So on upcoming videos please play with the fonts a little bit more. So you can make the lettering on the video more readable. I and other viewers would greatly appreciate the update on the fonts. And thank you for your time young man. And keep the wonderful work on going. God Bless You Nic.

I do occasionally change it if the background makes reading difficult. However often when rendering it will default back for some reason. In this case of this video I am able to read it easily so it must be a issue with your screen as i'm looking at it right now on my small phone screen outside and it is viewable. i'm not sure why it would be causing an issue.
@robertbeyers1308Күн бұрын
@@nics-systems-electric it's pretty much on how KZbin transmits it to others Which is obviously not your fault. Not everyone has a high quality television or screen. And that is why I'm requesting that you fix this issue by using white letters with black trim around each letter. By adding that black trim it makes it 100% readable for everyone. So please try it in future videos.

@@robertbeyers1308 as I said there's not much I can do when it renders back to the default. And if there is a time that it's hard to see I will fix it however this video I can see it quite easily.

Grate video. I find the differences betwean the american and european electrical system very interesting. In europ the danger of conductive surfaces getting into contact with conductors is counterd by having gfci directly inside the panel. This way all the circuits in the building have gfci protection. Neutral and ground are then connected behind the gfci or rcd as it is called here. So if any current is running over a grounded surface like the housing of a machine etc., the falsecurrent is evading the gfci on its way to neutral. This way the load is disconnected without it needing to exceed the tripping current of the breaker (here usally 10 or 16 amperes, gfcis for personal protection usally trip at a maximum of 30 milliamperes). I think that´s quite a bit higher then gfcis used in america, because thoose usally only protect one or a view sockets while the european ones protect multiple circuits at once, wich combined do have a higher leakagecurrent then just some outlets. So the higher trippingcurrent is a precaution to avoide the gfci from falsely tripping, if there are a view undangerously low leakagecurrents from appliences on multiple circuits combined.

@@nics-systems-electric Scince canada has adopted the iso standard for Exit signs, are there any discussions about also adopting the other pictogram signs from the ISO 7010 Standard? After all in my opptinion warning signs etc. can be just as important to People that may not speak a countrys native language, so a move away from textbased signs always makes sense in my oppinion. Is there even a Canadian or US Standard for signs like warning signs or signs indicating firefighting equiptment? Because my Impression is, that in a lot of cases they segnifficantly differ from each other in wording and Signal colour.

Good explanation. You know more than a lot of Journeymen out there. Im not up on the CEC, but in the states under the NEC a separate building like your garage would need its own grounding electrode system (rods, etc.).
@nics-systems-electricКүн бұрын
Thanks. I would have to open up a code book and look into it a little more to get an answer as it depends how the building is fed. I recall there being a difference if it's overhead feed with a triplex regarding grounding rods/plate. It's definitely not a straight yes or no when it comes to outbuildings.

@@omniverseunisec2496 it just depends if it's on the supply or return side of a duct. If it's the supply side then it will definitely have a filter, but often they are now required on return ducts which is often blended with make up air coming from the outside unfiltered. Not saying that's not what caused it as it could have it was just strange as it's been there for a while and only ever happened that one time. Who knows that could be what caused it.
