Maff, the dropshot method works best when fished as near to vertical as possible and is used to keep the lure in one place, ie near a snag, and work it slowly. You fished some great spots for it. If its weedy and shallow, simply go back to normal soft plastic jigging. Great fun fishing and excellent video.

Morning Matt, nice little video, I'd suggest giving the Glasson Dock arm of the canal a go for drop shooting and also at Glasson docks, there's some belting perch around there. Also I had the ticket for the lanky canal 3 years ago but I gave it up. Reason was I asked the fishery manager if I was OK to film and he bluntly told me No.... so I don't know if the rules have changed on there but I believe the same guy is still the manager so maybe best to check mate. I'm writing this comment whilst currently piking on Killikngton lake and its blowing like nobody's business. Keep up the good work and tight lines

Im very well thanks mate, as i hope you are to? TBH Matt, I think the guy who I spoke to was a bit up his own rear haha. I've done a few videos over the past couple of weeks around the carnforth area and on 1 of the vids I'm fishing for live bait with a whip and I caught a really good sized perch. It was at tewtifield marina next to clearwater and I'm planning on having a go for the perch solely on there tomorrow. Defo worth a look up with your drop shotting set up. The place is stuffed with little silvers so I'm assuming that there's a few good perch to be had. Looking forward to your next upload 👍

What a cracking couple of sessions casting practice Maff, one question that I've been meaning to ask is...Will we see any beach casting, shore fishing stuff? I do love my canal fishing, but every now and then I like to get the beach caster out and hit the Firth of Clyde or Firth of Forth for something slightly more salty (not that I ever catch much, as I seem to have the same luck as yourself on the canal there)...But hey, we do it for a day out, not just to thrill ourselves senseless , and as I've said before, that is why it's called "fishing" and not "catching"...As for your question about dog shite bags hanging in tree's...Well we have one woman here who does that and her answer is "I hang them on a tree because I don't want to carry it with me and I always pick them up on the way back"... A likely story if ever I heard one. LOL Tight lines big man...Onward and upward.

@@MaffTUK We do what we have to do to live mate, no apologies necessary to this old bloke. Yeah, gone are the days where we stand alone and freezing as the wind blows sea spray in your face or summer beach casting and sand fleas leave those lovely little bumps and red dots on your lower leg, whilst you need to keep asking the youngest child from a family of tourists to "Please don't keep touching my fishing rod !"...Or "OI!!!! Keep your kids under control! and if that bloody dog of yours shits in the sand once more and you don't bag it I'll be taking measures!" LOL These days I'm lucky if I can make the Forth & Clyde which is about quarter of a mile from my house, and the worst thing that I have to contend with is bloody cyclists who hare along the tow path like it's part of the route of the Tour De France, cyclists who seem to think that the path was upgraded just for them so anyone else on it should be looked upon with disdain...Lycra clad arseholes! Sorry...I ranted a little there, hope you're doing well Matt.

Good effort , shame not to get anything on the bank. Lancs canal was heavily polluted at Bridgehouse Marina wiping all the fish out so possible its had an effect in the area your fishing. If there's no fish then you ain't gonna catch. I found with drop shotting the lift and draw method works best and keep it natural Don't give up on it.

Hi David I love the jacket plenty of room even for me ..its well made 3 layer gortex not that heavy either however on the real colder days you would need something under as its an uninsulated jacket, but this does allow you to keep moving without overheating. regards Matt

Only tried this once so far, so I’m a total novice when it comes to this method. However, all the footage I have seen shows the “experts”, shaking the rod tip in rapid small jerks. You need to get the lure wiggling about like a distressed fish. That’s what I tried to do first time out and I caught a perch. Long way to go for me, but I know a steady retrieve isn’t the one.
@leeyo5494

Who makes that jacket? Also I got the same results on that end the lanky, but I did see a 3lb perch in crystal clear water right outside the longlands
