Drop Tower: Scream Zone off-ride HD Kings Island

This is one of two Intamin giant gyro drop towers located in the USA. The other one is at Kings Dominion in Virginia. Although both look alike, there are quite a few differences. At 315 feet (96m) , this one is 10 feet (3m) taller than the one at Kings Dominion and this one rotates on the ascent to the top whereas the other does not. Even though this one is taller, the one in Virginia has an eight foot (2.4m) longer drop because the brakes are located lower down on the tower. This also gives the one at Kings Dominion a greater top speed of 72 mph (116 km/h), compared to 67 mph (108 km/h) for this one.

I was on this ride 10 years ago. I remember being at the very top of the tower... waiting for it to drop. The anticipation is really terrifying... and it was windy and I could feel the tower was swaying back & forth. That was more terrifying than the drop itself.

This ride is nothing compared to Disneyland's Guardians of the galaxy. That thing shoots you up at high speed then drops you back to where you started, then drops you in a hole, then shoots you up again and drops you back down. None of it is slow, and it throws you up six times with random stops and drops. Mostly in the dark.

I went to King's Island many times one summer, and it took me a long time to find the courage to ride this one. But the day I did, my stomach was all in knots. About a third of the way up, I was freaking out that maybe I made a mistake. Then it just kept going up. By the time we were at the top, my heart was pounding more fiercely than it ever had before. You don't really understand how high it is until you are actually on it. That drop...it was more exhilarating than any of the other rides I had been on. Terrifying as it was, I immediately wanted to ride it again. I did. Lol, it was more terrifying the second time because I knew what to expect.

Yeah I can easily see how that could happen. The waiting line wraps around under a canopy and you cannot see upward at all until you're walking up to your seat. It's nerve wracking waiting to fall, but the view is spectacular up top! Exhilarating!

REVIEW: Personally this ride was epic. You slowly rise to the top and get an incredible view like the Eiffel tower. Rate 7/10 scary because as soon as that drop hits, s### goes down. Weightlessness and the full experience for 4-5 seconds. When I went on it, the straps felt insecure but at least they were to protect you, right? If you're afraid of heights, or afraid of brake failure, this shouldn't be on your list xP

About 20 years ago I went on that ride when it was new and it got stuck at the top for around 20-30 minutes and they were finally able to let us down real slowly and when we got down the big wigs where out there handing out free admission tickets and drinks and all kinds of free stuff. I would like to say this ride is NOT scary yes you will be scared but when the rides done you would want to do it again and you do lift up and it feels like your gonna fall out. You wont but this ride is 300 ft in the air so..... and there 7 clicks after that seven clicks are over you drop. And when you sit down your knees will hurt. And your hands will shake like crazy😂

This must be the Drop Tower in Mason, Ohio. The Drop Tower at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina needs to be designed in the same way. Apparently, both of them were manufactured by the same company because they look exactly alike. Nevertheless, the one at Carowinds is smaller and only has a seating capacity of 16 persons per ride.

I rode a ride exactly like this in Dubai. When it was ascending I was like “oh cool!” ...and then as it got higher and higher I was like.....I’m gonna die....and then it reached to the tippity top and I thought oh man, now I’m really gonna die....and without warning it just dropped and I felt like my stomach was going to explode! The free fall was only about maybe 6-7 seconds? But it felt like I was screaming my lungs out for minutes!

I remember going on the free fall 2 times in my 6th N 7th grade school picnics.... My reaction was something like this - When it was going up I told my frndzz beside me ok V can do it V can do it.. 😉 When it reached at the top I told my frndzz oh god I'm scared I shouldn't have came on this ride 😨 When it went down like whoosh I didn't said anything N closed my eyes 😣 When it reached full down that was the time I screamed like anything N the ppl round the free fall were all just looking at me N laughing 😂😂😂 Conclusion : This is the most dangerous ride that I have ever experienced...
