I can definitely think of a few KZbinrs who have boosted their views and subs by saying the latest $500 microbrand is a Rolex killer haha. I hate those click bait titles too. Great stuff, Pete.

That Loch Ness photo is clearly the leg and underside of a baroque era chest of drawers. I remember the first time I saw that photo I was maybe about 10 years old and I remember clearly thinking “no not a monster, probably a chair leg”

I'd be happy to never hear the word Rolex again. The Buick of the watch world.

Interesting video! I like the angle you took. I can’t say I’ve considered any of those before! As a sidenote Pete, your microphone audio comes through as mono in the right speaker only, whereas the intro music comes through as full stereo

So Pete your wrong my great, great, great uncles brother died from an attack of a drop bear. I would say that the Omega Ultra Deep is a Rolex Sea Dweller killer in performance. But I would have to agree that there is no other brand that can knock Rolex off its perch.

Pete - I agree with most or your arguments about Rolex asa brand being universally known but I think you overestimate the knowledge non collectors have with respect to individual models. I was in an AD recently where I saw a middle aged customer, who looked like someone who could afford to make a purchase, learn about a Submariner for the first time. So underrated models definitely exist.

If the "Rolex Killer" exists maybe it'd be this Anthony Farrer dude? Sorry to bring it up here - but it could be that the extensive publicity surrounding the 5 million buck scandal he has created will be the last little push that sends the already teetering Rolex hype-market into free fall? (No very bad thing if it did, either, IMO.)

There definitely were, are and will be underrated rolexes. The yacht masters, the colorful OPs when they came out, etc. There are many examples. And those who could spot them made a lot of money.

Pete again offers some great thoughts here... I am thinking though that Rolex could see some further price drops on the Grey Market, just my thoughts.

Could you argue that the perfect watch is one that serves its purpose flawlessly. Okay that might not be to everyone’s taste or everyone’s requirements but that aside does a watch deliver on its promises without exception. Could you argue that would be the perfect watch?

Can I get an AMEN!!! His actions have consequences he doesn't even realize. If those who endorsed publicly don't condemn him publicly, they are just as guilty. You know they swapped watches back and forth between themselves. That shoulder tap of "hey, I got this if you need it."

Pete, your videos are the exception since I actively avoided videos and podcasts (my main method of consuming watch content) that deal with the Big Six-Seiko, GS, Rolex, Tudor, Omega, and G-Shock. Those brands are not for me and the seem to get the lion’s share of coverage from some people. I don’t need to be an expert in brands that aren’t for me. Sadly, I did know about about 1/2 of your Rolex questions. It’s a little like knowing factoids about the Kardasians-I’m embarrassed I know them. I’m in the hobby for the watches, not to be an expert. And when there is an Aqua Terra or GS limited edition that comes that peaks my attention I learn about it and then move on. Lastly, agree 100%. There is only a perfect watch or best dive watch or perfect collection size for the individual. We are all different. Sure, I have perfect watches but I guarantee you that no one watching this video would agree and that’s fine. We are supposed to be unique.

A couple things: First, I don't have a Rolex I don't have anything especially against them as watches. There are some aspects of Rolex ownership that I find abhorrent, I wouldn't rule out a Rolex or two. But, some significant things would have to change for that to happen. 😊 That said, I don't consider myself a consumer of Rolex content. If I know about it at all, it's more ir less by osmosis. Other people talk about it and are passionate about it so I've become familiar with "pre-ceramic", 3 line, etc. As well as most model names. But, it's not something I go out of my way to consume, I couldn't recite one model number to save my life. But, other people nerd out on that stuff. Good for them. Yes, I don't watch the self appointed "watch experts", but I find the premise amusing. Rolex comparisons a waste of time? I wouldn't say you shouldn't watch them. Just don't watch them expecting relevant Rolex content. Does a watch have to be s Rolex to be relevant? Sure the title is click bait, but it feeds the algorithm, that's how you got there, and maybe why you might be interested. If you're going to KZbin you've got to do the algorithm tango. 😅
