One of the coolest car designs ever made. In person the sheer width and length of the car (along with the "chopped" glass - this thing has like 14" tall windows) gives it a mean look and a PRESENCE no other car on the road has. I won a 78 Mercury Grand Marquis coupe, I want a 72 one day.

That stuff is amazing, but a little pricey. Try coal tar epoxy, it's actually an industrial coating for offshore oil rigs to keep them from rusting in salt water. It's also a crapload cheaper

its because they're motorheads not bodyshop guys.. but I also wonder why anyone doing a restoration doesn't spray the entire underside with Phosphoric Acid Rust Converter to neutralize the rust and convert it to an oxide that is easy to wire brush or just paint over.. but this car after they are done is going to be worth less than the cost of the parts they put on it.. unless its for one of their dad's as a specialty project.. give it to dad to drive to the golf course .. throw 4 sets of clubs in the trunk.. heh but those wheels idk if dad is going for that. heh.... maybe kinda looks like boat steering wheels or somethin

You had me interested until the pimp wheels... My first car was a 79 Mercury Marquis with dual carbs dual exhaust an air suspension and bored to 500... was dad's trailer miss piggy. Could outrun a Boss 351Mustang or late 70's Corvette... Not quite sure what was done under the hood but it was a dragster tank.

Those rims actually looked good on this car because of the of the fact that the car was size proportionate for the rims Put the same rims on a 2013 Mustang and they'd really look awful

71 Merc Marq Bro 4 door 429 was my first ride. What a boat. I remember going through freeze plugs for a while. She'd just dump coolant. My dad was a cop in Detroit and he'd drive her to work down the Jeffries freeway at night before it was open. Doing about 100 with all the windows open. He said he thought he was getting taller. Apparently the vacuum created by speed and open windows inverted the headliner and it was hitting him on top of the head.

I love watching these guy's channel, and normally enjoy everything they do. However, this time I hate the way they hung that Currie axle. Ford used channels on the trailing arms for a reason. I used to make my own bushings and box those in. Moog cargo coil springs along with a set of the old adjustable Gabriel shocks. Also used Hellwigs anti-sway bars front and rear. I also used to make gussets to strengthen the rear axle housing along with adding a strap along the bottom. These full size fords came with 2:72 rear end ratio unless they were limited slip with 3:25. The 3:25 we're good but I preferred 3:55. I loved the old galaxies sedans and station wagons. I had a 72 Country Squire with the police interceptor package along with the 429 that I had put a lot of time and money into, but was a lot of fun to drive. Ironically, that's one of the cars I miss the most.

The stock 9" rear end probably would have held up just fine for awhile , because both the rear tires are just going to smoke anyhow and never really hook up hard enough to bust anything. that little ad for the valance at the end gives me a question.. are there any good references as to the thicknesses of different sheet metal and frame parts on vehicles? like how thick a frame is on a 69 F100 or a quarter panel on a 65 mustang... or a frame rail or torque box on a 68 mustang.. I mean you can guess but are there any references that maybe some restoration parts company has put together so if you have to cut in a patch then its the right thickness and not a guess.
