I bought one back in 1975, she was only 3 years old when I got it, and it looked like the first day it drove off the dealership lot in 1972. She had the 429, and she flew down the highway, passed everything in sight,but the gas station! I had the 72 Mercury Marquis for about 11 years then sold it, after seeing this show, I wish I had have kept her! I sure do miss the big beauty!

I'm kind of a Ford guy , they all make SOME good cars and I like the big lincolns and mercs. But I have a hard time passing up on purchasing Any Caddie with a big block . 472-500. Or the late 70's & early 80's 425 olds powered caddies. for "highway duty" they're the greatest.👍

THe are not the best, look up Goonsquad Camaro or Challenger build. LOT MORE in depth info on the actual work required. I you did this build in your driveway, it would take 6 months or more. Unless you had ALL the big parts ready to go.This is just Infotainment, no real building info here.

A long time ago and at a faraway place I built a 73 ltd. It was the most fun with a vehicle I every had. Light or low hp build on a 2v cleveland, about 300hp at the crank. 9 inch 3.5 rear. Not enough hp to smoke the tires but enough hp to get it going 130 mph in 3rd, never had the guts to see how fast it would go in 4th. The remarkable thing about this boat was that 6 ft guy could stretch out and sleep in the back seat, a little guy like my self could make a pretzel out of his girlfriend back there. It was rugged. I hit a dead elk in the middle of the road and went air borne, got home, not a scratch. On the road and up to speed with the AOD in overdrive I got a pretty consistent 18mpg, not bad for a really heavy rig with a old smog motor. Best of all the neighbor hood kids all thought I was "gansta". Have fun all of you and keep wrenching.

A Boss 429 hood scoop might work on your Merc. I know the stock ones were about 3" tall but someone out there also makes a 6".

Absolutely LOVE this build. Those cars defined luxury at an affordable price. Cadillacs were cool but out of reach for many blue collars, These big, powerful Merc's were there and they did not have to take a back seat to anything available.

Nah, stainless tank they cleaned up on the outside. Can still see wear and tear on it including rust stains probably from the straps. Guess the only amazing bit is that it had a stainless tank.

There are 3 cars from my past that I truly wish I could have today. My dad's 1970 GTO convertible, his 1979 Bonneville Brougham Landau coupe, and my 1994 Grand Prix SE sedan. That said, I do love these 70's land yachts, with the Mercury Marquis/Grand Marquis near the top of my list. Abundant space, comfort, and style. I wouldn't spend the time and money on the air suspension shown in these videos, but it's their car and a virtually unlimited budget sure helps a lot. These cars were known for their very soft, yet controlled ride quality and that doesn't lend well to the astounding drivetrain that was installed, so I can understand. It's a joy to see one of these cars transformed into a lead sled, but I still personally prefer a well-kept original.

this is just painful to watch as I could SEE the rust on that frame when they took the old brake line off but they didn't even bother to clean it up AT ALL. What's the point in making so much HP and putting new lines on when the frame is rusting if you're not gonna clean it up and just allow it to continue rusting

But, just for the 'look' at least sandblast the bastard and put a crap load of 'soft' bitumen type of cover so it absorbs stone, etc. without 'paint' coming off by chipping. I used to do that with my older cars, lasted a LOT longer then straight paint/primer stuff. Last one was 1974 until I sold it in 2010 and undercarriage was in perfect condition. That added $4000 to the sale price, NO work needed.

I remember I was forced to take my first driver test, when I was 16 years old and 1 month (to make the appt... ; ) in the family Mercury Marquis Station Wagon. It was tan with the wood paneling... perfect test but didn't pass the parallel parking! got that two weeks later on the second test, not bad considering I never drove the thing before. It was actually a dream to drive, felt like you were driving a space ship or maybe Luke Skywalker's land speeder... smooth ride, and lots of luxury...

This was any Uncle which was my moms brother favorite car he had two of them when I was growing up. He use to come in to town when I was a kid I thought every man had to own one of these car to be cool. He use to pick me up in it and I just love the ride he talked and talked about these cars his was brown and clean. He retired from Chrysler in Dayton Ohio he was known for these cars in his city and here in Indianapolis. Me and my family love to see him bring that clean car in to town or go visit I always just wanted to ride in it. I’ve never seen one with those modification I would love to allow his legacy to live on. He past away in December 2020 which was devastating to Me And My Family I would love to own this car and Brighten my family’s days and allow My Uncle Goody legacy to live. It would make his sister and brother happy with such a beauty. I think the way they would react would be astonishing breathe taking. You guys bring back great history with this mercury that’s why I love this show. Through every make and model yaw touch families! Love watching all the expert work done, like installing the fuel system, rear end, air bags, exhaust and etc. BUT as some others commented why not sand blast the underside and paint it, that could have been done in 1 day if you have the equipment. I noticed that the frame already has some patches weld on it and they look rather shoddy. How does that help plant 1100 horse power to the ground? Oh yea those tires and wheel look awful to me plus that big hole in the hood is looks like shit too.

Everything added can be very easily removed for frame up resto or whatever work someone wants to do. It wasn't part of the build but nothing prevents it being done either. I would be over the moon to have this car.

In 1979 I was 16 I had a Mazda pickup with a 4-cylinder. My stepdad was chiropractor he had a 76 copper colored four-door all-electric fully loaded 460 cubic inch police interceptor motor. He wanted to trade straight across in 1981 when I went into the police academy and even though I came out with the better end of the deal he just really wanted that little truck. The Mercury Marquis had 202 horsepower which was way under what it should have been because of the gas crunch-time had 350 or so torque deserve the 60 and 12 seconds quarter mile in 18 or 19 seconds I think. There was a guy in Clovis California that built under the hood superchargers for Ford and Chevy vehicles and I got one it was a kid and me and my buddies put it on my car. It changed my horsepower to 350 it changed my torque to almost 400 0 to 60 in 7 Seconds and change my quarter mile time to 14 and some change. For a car that big it was actually tremendously upgraded thank God I worked at a full service gas station while I was going to the police academy because I can roast the tires and blow them up and then hobble over to the gas station and put some used tires on it. It was big enough for three people could go camping in the Sierra Nevadas one of the front seat on the back seat and the third guy had the most room in the trunk. We went deer hunting in it we went to the drive-in movies we put three guys in the trunk and not pay for them. Muscle cars would come up alongside me and I'd say let's run them or read the motor and you can see the look in their eye they were going to do it and I would floor that damn Mercury and it was surprising because I would jump off the line as heavy as it was I didn't hardly spinner tire and they would be like scrambling their ass to catch up with me I couldn't beat them but it scared the s*** out of him thinking my God this giant copper-colored boat is going to beat me. I'm six foot seven I could move this driver's seat so far back because I could reach the pedals and I would telescope the steering wheel and I would replying that sucker and I would actually stick my arm out the rear window on the driver side and just Cruise. One of my best friends had a Ltd in 1974 had the Ford 429 not the boss motor but the regular 429 and it was fast as it was it was lighter than my car and we raced all the time and when I got my supercharger I could smoke him hard. Some Mexican guy rear-ended in that an intersection and totaled his car and I had a 1000 Kawasaki and a 65 Chevy pickup with a Corvette motor and I didn't use my Mercury much and he wanted to buy it from me. I had about $1,000 in it and he knew it was fast and well-equipped and he offered to buy it and I said dude I got a thousand in it because I'll give you 1,000 so I sold it to him and he drove it for like five more years and finally sold it some Mexican guy that lowered it painters at cherry red and tinted the windows and I knew the guy and Manny we go cruising on the streets at night and that thing was shine he kept it chromed and cherry red it was beautiful car.

WoW. That is one great car. Started out a cream puff, finished as a monster. So cool. Funny video too, with some of the lines and whatnot, while not being too over the top. Part of me wants to see the build-sheet, to know what kind of investment happens in a build like this. Another part of me knows that I couldn't ever afford such greatness. You guys never disappoint.
