As a kid observed old timers using Calcutta cane poles with piano wire to prevent cut offs on pilings - they slayed big sheepshead with fiddlers dropped close to pilings chummed with crushed barnacles harvested at low tide with square bucket and hoe with cut off short handle.

I used to catch tons of mangroves at the jetties with the cane pole. It was a lot better at getting them out of the rocks than the spinning rod. In the old days they use a really stout cane pole to catch snook from the piers. They'd pull a plug in a figure 8 then just flip the fish before they could get a run going.

Back when i was young here in SwFla guys used to use Big Calcutta Poles (like Cane Poles) and Swish for Big Snook at the bridges ,,,They made a lure out of a metal tube and Swished it in a Figure 8 on the top and the Big Tanker snook would eventually get pissed and inhale it !! Thats Okd Skool Fla fishing technique!!!

If you're wanting to do some cane pole fishing, get yourself a brim buster They come up to 15 feet. I believe. They are collapsible. And they have a A lot more flex to give a little more control when fighting a big fish. I used to use one bass fishing and for catfishing

Both those fish are excellent. The biggest drum I have kept was 39 inches. Meat had zero worms and it was more like a really tender pork chop rather than fish. Also kept a 32.5 inch drum that had zero worms and it was still a flakey fish. Still trying to find that size range where the meat gets more dense. The 32.5 inch was the same taste and texture as a 26 inch. Looking for one in the 35 to 37 inch range to see if the meat changes density.

Have you tried crickets for sheepshead bait? I've seen a couple people doing it in videos and catching them. I bat a little jig head for crappie would be perfect with crickets. Growing up in Florida I was told that the secret to catching sheepshead is to set the hook a half second before they bite 😂.

Try for a shark on the cane pole. Talked to a guy once that said him n his buddies (after a few beers) used to wade out at night to fish for shark. The rule was you couldnt have out any more line than the length of your rod. Just use really heavy line so you dont break off😂😂

Idk, I think maybe you should hang up the salt water fishing for the cane pole and try something like crappie or catfish. I know you like going for largemouth bass every once in awhile so it's nothing new to you to switch up things every once in awhile. Why not try those fish or even the LMBs if you want? Just a suggestion. Also, I love boys I have two of them. But I think you need another daughter in there. You know how you feel with them, a little different, a little more spoiling goes on unfortunately, but you love them all the same I think it's another girl. That's my guess. God bless!
