Get a piece of plywood and a very sharp fillet knife, fillet the fish in the board, throw away the fish and eat the board. Never had either bluefish or bonita that tasted very good. Wish they did taste good, cause they are a blast to catch.

Bonito is great. Smoked is the best but like you said same day sashimi is awesome too. Problem with them is that you have to do it right away they don't like the fridge or the freezer they turn in to mush.

Brad the bonito. As long as the fillets are thin they will turn white and loose all the oil. Half a inch. No thicker. Also. You can put them in a baggie with some Italian dressing. I cube it sometimes for tacos. The spanish too. If you choose to cube it. Wrap in foil with the dressing. Eat with a tooth pick if you don't want tacos. CK IT! Great vid!!

Filet the Bonita cut out bloodline and skin. Wrap in cheese cloth boil in salted water drain and boil once more in salted water. Crumble it up and make tuna salad, or Bonita salad, it’s better than canned tuna fish.

I have marinated in soy sauce( teriyaki not from a bottle) and cooked on the smoker. Not a pellet grill a real smoker. Tastes like fish jerky

I have had Bonita, I pan seared it. It was like a slightly mushy tuna. I enjoyed it. You are correct, I think in a taco it would be great. I don't think it would work well as a fish and chips kind of fish at all though. No breading and deep frying.

Love the show, the whole family thing fishing is awesome. Then the cooking tips. One question, from BC we use mostly single action reels unless casting. When ocean fishing here for salmon mostly jigging or trolling. I don’t understand all the pull up rod reel in on downstroke. Isn’t it easier to maintain tension just keeping tip up and reeling when you can?

My youngest had her first Mackerel last year. Most do not like Mackerel due to a stronger fishy taste, but cajun beer batter Mackerel is favored. My youngest prefers Mackerel over Salmon now. But nothing is preferred over Salmon sushi or polka bowels. Dice Mackerel into nugget size and try the cajun beer batter method it's great and taste more like chicken. LOL
