In this week’s episode, I go metal detecting with the Minelab Manticore to a site I’ve been over in the past with the Equinox. After making a change to one setting in particular, I noticed improved depth on small targets in heavy iron - exactly where the Manticore shines! Not to mention, my copper drought is OVER, and I spent a great day metal detecting early coins and forgotten relics with some more pep in my step after breaking the drought… enjoy!

Thanks Andrew! There are some great resources, and also some really bad ones. 😂 Best way I’ve learned is through my own trial and error - but the hint on the reduced lower ferrous limits definitely came from overseas! 🤘🏻

I hear you on the drought. Went 5 months without a largie hunting 1-2x/week. Had my first 2 largie day in Sept which was a huge relief. Nov 6 had a 4 copper spill. Mixed in with the coins was an oxen shoe. Picked up a largie in the roadway on the way out for #5. 3-1830's large cents, 1832 nova scotia half penny token, and 1788 mass state copper. I m still searching for that elusive draped bust. Your videos keep me motivated-thanks for that. Zeb

"This'll probably be garbage because I'm filming it." Lol, the curse of the live dig! Classic. That gold gilt button was primo! You ever try out a USB microscope to examine super knackered coins? Might come in handy for your possible hammered copper. I use to have one that I used a lot and sometimes it worked really well pulling out details and sometimes it just made things worse. Hit and miss. Great finds, Stef and congrats on breaking your copper drought! I know how it feels to hit those droughts. I just broke out of one myself on arrowheads. p.s. I also love buffs! One of my all time fav American coins.
@StefDigs
@StefDigs 11 ай бұрын
Thank you! I actually use a lighted loupe, but I’ve never tried one of those microscopes, I may get one at some point. That coin’s so far gone that it probably wouldn’t help lol, but for some other smalls, it could work. I caught up on your last few videos the other day - glad you broke your drought, too! Wonder if more people are finding your honey hole? 🤔 I know you said others hunt there already. I’ve had people match up my sites in videos and then go out and hunt them, it’s crazy! 😳

Nice video 👍 i was working in Alberta Canada between 2012 and 2015 Long distance ice roader. I took my trusty then minlab exploer 2 and a Garrat gold scorpion stinger. On the bank of the north Saskatchewan river on the southern boarder of BC i found some small nuggets and a silver indian head buffalow coin same size as the copper you found. Im sure i was in an old gold rush creak area as i found a few relics from the time too and 6 chinese coins. I still have that silver with me here in England. :) happy hunting a new Manticore owner 😮😊 as of yesterday. Happy hunting :)

The few buttons I've found have all been when I've been in New England - you almost never find them in the Pacific Northwest. The fact that you found the dandy as well as the fancy gilded one and weren't terribly surprised boggles my mind! Chinese coins usually were holed so it could be an ancient one.
@StefDigs
@StefDigs 11 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ve found some! Generally those are square holes, though. I believe this was holed after it was in circulation, as people commonly holed their coins to keep them on a string and sewn inside of clothing to avoid losing the coins. It didn’t work very well sometimes, hah!
