Never ceases to amaze me how many little details he picks up on, that corn tip alone was worth watching it for, seriously underrated channel.

My approach with the method feeder is a bit different. I used the tri-lobe style for years until the Korda ones went out of production and I was forced to try something else so gave the big ESP flatbed feeders ago and haven't looked back since. They cast just as well but land the right way up 99 times of 100 which was always a slight concern of mine even with the unequally loaded tri-lobes. My preferred groundbait mix is a blend of dynamite halibut method mix and bait tech krill&tuna as these are both super sticky and will hold together through the cast and a drop of over 15ft if needed, this works when I'm regularly recasting (ie. in the water for no more than 2hrs) but when leaving them out overnight I add some PV1 binder to stodge the mix up. I am quite particular about it as I want that bundle to hold together and some mixes just aren't resistant enough and will detonate either on impact or during the drop. As for hooklengths I'm really not a fan of fluoro as it tends to flick the bait away from the mound of groundbait and during my time as a match man I found this definitely had an effect on both how quickly you got a bite and how positive the bite is, for me it's got to be braid or light mono. I like to bury the hookbait and then double skin the feeder to make sure everything is protected through the cast and drop and that my hookbait remains in the main pile regardless of the attention of small roach. I do like to spod out a few small balls of groundbait on top of the loose pellet/particle just to avoid the method feeder standing out as an obvious trap after you've had a few fish, having watched fish in the margins they do get a bit wary of the singular pile of groundbait after a while. Anyway, great video as always and hope you're managing to find a bit of peace on the bank wherever you are

Good stuff. It could just be me, but we did test the (really) large flat feeders underwater when they first came out and they didn't always land the right way up. Like I say, things like this often come down to just a quirk of someones fishing style. Tight lines! Paul

@@drpaulgarner I don't disagree that the really big ones are inherently unstable in design and would have a high chance of flipping over on the drop. My experimentation was done in a 4-5ft deep margin with the large sized 56g feeders and while there was some wobble it landed right side up 20/20 times but perhaps this would change in deeper water? I might have to do some further experimentation with chamfering the edges of the lead foot plate or maybe recasting it entirely to a more aerodynamic shape to see if the turbulence wobble can be minimised.

Always look forward to your new vids Paul, also can I ask your professional opinion on something. I'm thinking of adding spirulina into my cheese paste mix for chub. I've read about it being a great source of protein, but also of other beneficial nutrients too. But I want to be 100% sure of its safety before doing it. Would really appreciate your professional input. Best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family buddy

Thanks mate. Spirulinas fine. I’ve used it and also kelp meals in the past at around 5% of the weight of the dry ingredients. It’s a great source of micronutrients and has that very distinctive taste. It’s also used in some koi pellets. Tight lines! Paul

@@drpaulgarner thankyou so much buddy, really really appreciate that. I knew with your background you were the best person to ask, as I really wanted to be 100% sure it wouldn't have any adverse effects on the fish's immune system or the water quality itself. I wanted my cheese paste to have more of a natural colour to it, and looked at ingredients to achieve this but also have health benefits to the fish too. I l like your idea of the kelp meal also so Thankyou for this again. Hope you have a great weekend. Best wishes and stay safe and well, and tight lines buddy.

Great video 👌. How often would you be recasting when doing a session for bream or what prompts you to decide to recast? I’m never sure if I should be recasting or sitting it out.

Hi mate, there's actually a couple of pictures of the rig underwater on my Instagram page at the moment. We did look at various Method feeders a lot underwater a few years ago. I've got a venue in mind where hopefully we will be able to film underwater this year with a bit of luck. I've not tried the Trigga, but I know a lot of people swear by it. It's a really good chub bait I hear too. Tight lines! Paul

Fantastic video. Would you fish Bream during the winter? I'm fishing a pit at the moment with some monsters and fancy a go
@drpaulgarner
@drpaulgarner 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, they will feed right through the winter, but like all fishing, it can be tough. My favourite time of year is from Easter onwards, even though the water is still a bit cold, they are moving around a lot more then. Through the winter I think location is the key to success. Good luck! Paul

Good stuff Paul 👍 What rods do you tend to use as that is a fair old weight there. 2 1/4 - 2 1/2lb?
@drpaulgarner
@drpaulgarner 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, yes the loaded feeder are pretty heavy. It depends on the range. Up to about sixty metres I'll use my standard 2lb feeder rods, but above that I go up to 2 1/2lb light carp rods.

Great video as always Paul. Would you add hemp into your spod mix for bream. I’m getting mixed views.
@drpaulgarner
@drpaulgarner 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, I tend not to put in any hemp for bream. I'm not convinced they are particularly attracted by it. This is only really based on some observations on a shallow river a few years ago. I don't think it will do any harm though. Tight lines! Paul

Grea. t vid and very informative .on a number of occations I've left the hook bait out the method ball completely and had plenty of bites this was with either a braid hook link or supple nylon Do you ever use the same?
@drpaulgarner
@drpaulgarner 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, yes I was in a bit of a quandary to be honest on whether to mention leaving the hookbait out of the Method ball. If you are hitting the clip then you can leave it out and the chances of the rig tangling are pretty slim (especially with fluoro) and I feel it gives an increased chance of a fast bite with bream. If I am expecting to be recasting only a couple of times (say when night fishing) and bites are at a premium, then I'll put it in the ball, to hopefully avoid any chance of a tangle. Hope that makes sense? Tight lines! Paul.

Funnily enough, a lot of my local match anglers suggest when method feeder fishing for bream leaving the bait out of the feeder, although they can’t really say why it works better than burying the hook bait as you would for carp!!
