It just directly follows from the fact that the determinant is just an alternating summation over permutations. It doesnt matter if you are permuting based on rows or columns. x_1*y_3*z_2 is the same as x_1*z_2*y_3. Its trivial.

Suggestion: Show that exp(trace(A)) = det(exp(A)).

Annoying proof, trivial to show in the case of diagonalizable matrices, but for general proof jordan normal form and complex matrices are needed.
