Her technique of saying, "Have I been a perfect parent? Absolutely not!" is a great way to sound like you're taking responsibility without actually taking it. No parent is a perfect parent, so she's only admitting she doesn't live up to a standard that doesn't exist and would sound ridiculous to anyone hearing it. So if you meet someone who admits they're not living up to an imagined and impossible standard you have someone who is trying to sound responsible without actually taking on responsibility.

This mom sounds like my mom. I can calmly explain my disappointment to her in a respectful manner and she just responds by saying "I guess I'm just a horrible mother." Like no all I need is a sorry and an attempt to work towards a solution

I believe the oldest daughter can apply for a new SS number. Also , I am on Medicaid and so are my children. That is not MY insurance, that is the state. (And I’m grateful). I’m not sure you can council terrible people. She doesn’t deserve to be a mother. I’m sorry. Children are a gift, a precious gift and an awesome responsibility.

I think her anger and how disconnected she is comes from grief. She is avoiding the pain. She needs to remove those as defense mechanisms and let herself grieve. I hope she got help learning how to feel again. I know that grief. It hurts. I can't imagine what that would do to a person after building inside her for so long. No wonder she sees something different than we do when she looks at her house. She's avoiding reality.

Ok. Wait a hot minute. I've watched this episode and the two younger kids were interviewed by Phillip about this house and back and forth with Charles about why the camera crew didn't have the footage of the house they were currently living in and on and on and the boy who is still living with his "mother" said that the house they were currently living in was pretty clean because they'd only been living in it for a few weeks. That's the house they JUST NOW SHOWED. Good Lord.
