Okay, wait. This behavior started when she was in PRESCHOOL and her mother just... let it continue? No counseling for an obviously traumatized child? No wonder she acts this way.

Her mom just wanted to get rid of her. If she got her the help she needed she would have to confront her own demons too (years of abuse from her husband) and she wasn’t ready to face that and that held her kid back too. Pretty sad. Always put your kids first.

@Wade Church it's a coping mechanism, and i can understand both sides of this thing. no excuse for her actions, but she's hurting as you said and thus it's taking its way out in the way she's been speaking - threats and rebellion and such. i still agree there is no excuse for letting it manifest and take control to such an extent where she seems to have no care in the world for anyone.

@Wade Church i'm defending someone who's been a victim of failed parenting who didn't have a chance to try getting a foothold. i'm not defending her actions or her threats, because no there is no excuse for her actions. i'm defending her side of the whole argument which is essentially that a mother who doesn't know (or doesn't DO at all) how to parent properly causing her to become suppressed and thus her pain is finding its way out in a not very good way. i'm not sure whether you're trying to tell me i shouldn't defend her at all, but you don't seem to understand what happens when a parent neglects their child leading to mental development like this though, that's what i'm saying. *edit: i don't want to fight about it, i just want to put my point across so you can see what i mean and why i'm defending her suppression.

There isn't a gift that is as easy, entertaining and that costs nothing which a parent can give a child and their future that is better than reading. I really hope she gets the help she needs as well as I hope her mother gets help cause I see some pain also sitting in her from that time and that may also be a reason for her treating her daughter in a way that's very much fueling the fire. And it definitely does not mean beating up a child just to make “discipline” or get “respect” in the household. It means you love your child and you wanna have a good relationship with your child, you wanna nurture, support, and fight for your child. My father was emotionally and verbally abusive. He had beaten up my mom and it was serious. Consequently, I cut him out of my life and never talked to him again. Abusive men never change.

Guys let's not be mean in the comments. She's a 14-year-old kid who is clearly very hurt and broken. She has put up a wall and is using the attitude as a defence mechanism to protect her feelings from getting hurt further. At 14 what she is going through would feel like a pretty big deal and she is very clearly overwhelmed. Everyone digests loss and hurt differently. I hope she gets the help she needs.

as i said in an earlier comment; the threats are a coping mechanism in a way. she's hurting on the inside and that pain is getting its way out one way or another, and in this case in anger and incitement to violence - as well as her not having a care in the world for anyone else. it's a fairly common coping mechanism to turn to violence, i've faced the same type of issue (albeit not to the same extent as this girl) so i can understand both sides of this thing.

It doesn't excuse her behavior but it gives an explanation on why she's doing it and it unravels a deep sitting trauma that needs to be treated or else she will go on like this and eventually act by all the threats she's making. Leaving the trauma and her issues untreated will only result in worse

Emo And Proud “everyone has violent thoughts towards those who wrong us” UHHH, NO, MAAM! Some of us who are logical thinkers or at least use common sense, knows that nothing good comes from punching kicking stabbing shooting etc etc. Just walk away from them or dont talk to them. once you realize that some people are just stupid and you cannot change that, and some people you’re just not going to get along well with, you’ll be alot less angry and have better, more calm thoughts when someone does wrong to you. its actually really arrogant to physically harm (or take the life of) someone because they dont behave in a way that YOU FEEL that they should- as if theyre your child.

You are a bright young lady who is capable of so much good because you've had traumatic experiences that will enable you to be a sincerely empathetic peron. I’m afraid that the answer will be “Your birth mother is still doing drugs and alcohol and living on the streets”.

I really feel for this girl. I'm.actually crying! Teens, they do experience some brain regression (which then regrows towards them having an independent adult mind), and it varies according to child but it affects their reasoning skills if they are affected, which affects their ability to process emotional pain. It's not their fault if it's severe, and maybe trauma makes it worse. I just feel like this girl is full of trauma, is pushing people away because she's done with people hurting her. Rejection can cause this too; because it is so painful, a child traumatised by rejection will often push absolutely everyone away before they can even get chance to reject them. It looks like arrogance and insolence but in fact it's self defence. I hope she is doing ok. My heart goes out to her. I saw the clip where she is sent away to a foundation and it looked hugely traumatic. You can sometimes sees new trauma in someone's eyes. Poor girl.

All these problems are very real when you’re dealing with the emotions of it all. If you’re lucky enough to make it through and address shortcomings, looking back it will all seem so silly. And hopefully as we mature we can pass our wisdom down to our children. It’s very real in the moment but the pain fades and we learn how to cope. So don’t make such permanent decisions during a temporary stressor.

Such a brat, but what her mother said was irritating. "But that's not what happened anyways," And then Dr. Phil goes on to say "For God's sake, don't argue details, she's telling you what she remembers. It doesn't matter what actually happened. This isn't history class, it's about what she recalls." Too many parents do that when a child is trying to explain what they recall and how it hurt them. Parents need to listen to how a child feels instead of the parent telling them how they feel, and what they recall. Listen to what your child is trying to say. Don't enable. Just listen.
