I hate when people make fun of me for acne. I means it's natural, every time I try to say a joke or something, one of my friends is just going to say "oh at least I don't have acne" like relax it's a joke. Then when I feel like I made progress, my friends are like "no it's the same..wait I think there‘s more" Just because I got it early and like everyone in my class doesn't have it, doesn't mean u should talk about it every second.

Some people get acne earlier than others. After a while the acne will really get better and your skin will clear up and your friends will start to get acne (just because they don't have it now doesn't mean they won't) so just ignore them.

Thank you for promoting Accutane. I had severe cystic acne from middle school onward, on my face, back, and chest. I would regularly wake up in the morning with my nightshirt stuck to my back with blood from cysts tearing open while I slept. I tried oral antibiotics, topical creams, over the counter washes and creams, Proactiv, laser treatments, Clearlight, steam treatments, steroid shots, microdermabrasion, etc. After years of pain, embarrassment, and frustratingly inadequate and expensive treatments, I was finally OK'd for Accutane. I was on it for a few months in college and I've been acne free ever since! I still have scarring on my back from years of acne, but Accutane absolutely changed my life! It may not be the right choice for everyone, but if I could go back in time I would have gotten on it years earlier. The second best treatment was Clearlight, but it was not as long lasting and was more expensive.

Bad foods, like cheap cheese (not expensive cheese), with bad fats can be bad, but don't forget about bad drinks as well! We need to keep our skin hydrated, so if we drink too much of the wrong thing, this can have a huge effect. I quit drinking 5 years ago and the skin around my eyes look so fresh and youthful. My husband and I both think we both look older when we used to drink, even though we're older now!

I've had cystic acne since I was eight years old. I'm 25 now and it's still there. I've tried every product on the market but never could go to dermatologist because of the cost and lack of insurance. Fast forward to this past year when I found Dr Sandra Lee's acne treatment and -products. My deep scars have lightened and seem smaller, the inflammation of the acne has gone down, and the cysts don't come as often. Benzyol Peroxide is too strong for me but I've had good luck with the Sulfer Lotion instead. Retinol is a dream with the scarring.

PSA I really respect Dr. Lee and love watching her show! She is very knowledgable and caring practitioner. However her firm statement that food does not cause acne has not been my experience. All I can speak to is my own life experience.. I had cystic acne from age 19-24. It was bad and painful. I tried everything topical you could imagine. I was prescribed spironolactone. Nothing worked and I was scared to try accutane. I stopped eating dairy after tons of research about my type of acne (cystic acne along the jawline/ "beard" area) and finding that in some women, dairy could cause this cystic hormonal type of acne outbreak. Actually first I tried only having organic dairy to see if it was only the "added hormones' everyone talks about. I stuck it out for a while like that hoping because I really love dairy products and didnt want to take the plunge of going cold turkey. But I had to do it. After a few months dairy free, the frequency and severity of these outbreaks was noticeably reduced. It took a ton of will power but I've been dairy free for a year and my acne is gone. I just wanted to share my story in case someone has something that sounds similar and thinks it wont be food related after seeing this video. It actually might be!!! I miss cheese and milk but I don't miss my acne more :P

I went to a skin doctor and got prescribed isotretoin. It dries out the pores from inside, but it's harsh, back pain, and I had to take a pregnancy test from blood each month when I needed to refill my prescription. Just because it would 100% damage a baby, and it lasted for 7 months, before it seemed to be over. I haven't had cystic acne after, but it's only been 2 months since I finished the treatment, and I do get some watery acne or irritations now and then still.

Dr. Lee is aware of this. She has spoken in other videos about how dairy and sugar can contribute to the formation of acne due to the effects they have on hormones. In this video, she was simply disputing the common myth that food is the main cause of acne, an idea that is completely bogus and unfair. Food being able to increase the amount of acne an individual has (among many other factors) is not the same thing as it being the root cause of all acne. Not once did she say that food doesn't affect acne, but rather that it often isn't the main culprit for it existing in the first place. She made it quite clear that she was speaking in a general sense... And honestly, it's a bit ridiculous to suggest that Dr. Lee, a woman who has spent 12 years working to get to where she is now, is seemingly unaware of this type of research.

I've heard so many people claiming that food can not cause acne, but when I was a teenager, there was no chance I could eat chocolate without breaking out with acne. Both my brother and I experienced this, and my brother took ~20 years before he was willing to eat chocolate again. Even today if I eat too much chocolate, there's a risk of acne breaking out. This happens like clockwork when we eat chocolate, so I really don't think it's just coincidence.

Food can cause acne. I always break out 5 to 6 hours after I consume food containing lactose. I am severely lactose intolerant. Taking lactase pills does not help prevent the acne. But eating lactose free dairy does not break me out.

I have never had acne. Never as a teen, I was fortunate. Now I’m 59 and I have started experiencing cystic acne. I have started SLMD skincare with only a small amount of improvement. It is so painful and can become ugly. I am at a loss. Just when I think it’s clearing up it starts again.

everyone is different and i think we can all agree on that. With that being said, when I eat pizza, i DO get a pimple or 2. ANY oily foods will do it (for me. maybe not for you). I limit myself on any oily foods. Anything deep fried is a no go. Also, Chocolate will definitely give me pimples. Butter does it for me too and mayonnaise. What you put IN your body WILL have an affect outside. Most (not all) people can get rid of pimples simply just by changing their diet, drinking more water and getting some exercise. Again, I did not say ALL. Stress can play a big factor too. BTW I am only saying these things out of personal experience and what I've read. I'm by no means any kind of professional. lol

Dr. Lee! I truly enjoy all your KZbin channels...I am a popaholic for sure, thanks to the videos I've watched. I would do anything to get my hands on some of the blackheads you've shown. I do have a question for you though...Are there nationalities that are more prone than others to develop large black/white heads? I look forward to many more upcoming videos from your office! Thank You!!

my biggest question because right now I have a HUGE cyst on my face ... should I be afraid of covering it up with makeup ? also ... how easily can you spread acne around your face ? Or is that possible? I'm afraid I'm going to accidentally touch my cyst and then touch another part of my face and creat a new cyst.

In my case when I was eating healthier my skin was pretty much clear except for the occasional break out around that time of the month. For the passed few months I've been eating very unhealthy and my acne has gotten pretty bad and it's not clearing up. I think it's time to change my diet.

I have dealt with mild acne to really bad breakouts and clusters for around 4 years, and whenever I use creams and things they dont always help. I actualy have mild xma and oily/ combination skin as well. some acne products actually make the area around my nose very raw while I still break out everywhere else. Now I use ivory soap twice a day and a benyzol peroxide perscription before bed. Even though I adore makeup every time I wear foundation I break out pretty bad, and I cant cover it up, or it will just get worse. Today I decided to start going dairy free, create a more stable sleep schedule and exercise more frequently to help clear my skin. A lot of processed foods and products high in growth hormones will mess with your internal balances- and therefore your acne. After years of dead end face washes and jels and creams I am very exited to be taking a different approach to my skin! (I will still use the same face wash and perscription cream as well)

Hi Dr lee...Im a 41 year old male and Ive always struggled with acne, the weird thing is in my younger years it was on my chest, face, and some on my shoulders...now in my 30s and into my 40s my face, chest and shoulders are clear but my back from the bottom of my shoulder blades down is just awful and has been off and on for a while, i just started using a murad wash with 1% salicylic acid in it...I havent shaved my back in almost a week, i dont have much hair back there anyway but i shave before we go to the pool or whatnot...I REALLY dont wanna use accutane if I dont have too, Ive used doxycycline and after a few weeks it helped for the most part but once im off of it itll come back so its just a bandaid not a solution...If you read this im REALLY hoping you can help me because its very fustrating especially here in my 40s....thanks a bunch and hope to hear from you

Can or do you have a video similar to this on blackheads?!?! I have quite a lot small blackheads on my nose. I have try extracting them with a metal extracting tool but I find I can only get a few out. Do you have any recommendations towards products or methods to remove them that I could purchase or speak to my dermatologist about? Also do you recommend blackhead nose strips? Are they okay to use on the skin? My apologies for so many questions! 🙃

BHA (salicylic acid) is oil soluble and can get into the pore to exfoliate and break down dead skin cells. BHA is the "go to" for black heads. Irregular pores can contribute to clogged pores. Niacinamide can help with skin elasticity, and help the pore to regain a more normal shape. Leave-on type products will tend to be more beneficial because they have more time to sit on the skin and work; of course rinse-off products do have their benefits. Try to stay away from heavy or super emollient moisturizers on the areas prone to blackheads; a gel moisturizer might be a better choice. To help with extractions, try it after a shower when the skin is more soft and supple; avoid dragging on the skin, abrading it, or general irritation by other traumatic means or ingredients. Irritation makes it harder for the skin to produce collagen and repair itself. Check out Dr. Sandra Lee's web page. Not to detract from her channel, but the Paula's Choice channel and their web pages have a lot of helpful information.

Hi Dr. Lee, why are some blackheads you Can pop or use one of those tools to push it out; yet there are blackheads that are open and usually 3 or 4 together that are linked under the surface and you use tweezers to work all the debris out. And it is amazing how much stuff is actually in these holes! (These are my favourite to watch! Lol) So are these both different kinds of blackheads?

Hello! I need your help!! So here’s some backstory, i have tried to get my skin cleared for 3 years now and nothing has improved, i have bumps on my forehead and my forehead is flaky around my eyebrows, my nose is dry and i have large pores, and my eyelids are very oily, i do not use makeup just mascara and eyebrow, my skin is good around my cheeks are not that dry but i have i think they’re acne scars but it’s only where you put contour (the makeup) it’s not all around my cheeks and i also drink a lot of water and i also have pimples rught next to my nose. What is my skin type and what are good products i can use for my skin?????? Or what can i do to clear my skin? That’s all i want in life 😭👍🏽 oh and I’ve also tried so many products my skin does not like to get used to a product, i use one for 2 weeks then all of a sudden i get pimples

DON'T listen to her when she says acne can't be caused by the food you eat. I have had acne on my back, face, chest, neck, scalp since I was in kindergarten..yup. went to doctor as a tween and teen, wasted my time religiously putting on prescribed topical treatments as well as oral meds my teen years (just antibiotic, was scared of anything else, never completely thought this all was the answer) and never saw a noticeable change. if there was, let's face it,it's temporary unless you'll be doing this regimen for life. and to those out there who have a feeling one of (one of them, because let's face it, it's never just one thing, it's good combination of things like skin type, stress, food, age, I believe you know your body best) your major causes MIGHT BE food, DON'T listen to her when she says it's not caused by the food you eat. I know everybody's main cause of acne IS NOT the same but if you've never tried cutting things like dairy, refined sugars, and wheat out of your diet and drinking a lot of water, you should AT LEAST GIVE IT A TRY, for a good loooong week, that's it. I've only recently started to completely eliminate as well as drastically reduce the "bad" foods on and off this year and I can see a difference! I feel so relieved and grateful I tried this. I'm in my late twenties right now and since my K-12 days my acne has generally calmed down a lot, but I have a feeling it still would have helped a great deal back then too(I ate really really bad!!!) I'm not going to lie, it's hard, it might suck, but go on KZbin for info and motivation, to figure out a viable plan for a wholeweek, you can do it. can't change genetics but I'm thinking try to go to the root of the problem as much as you can, right? wishing everybody the best :) oh yeah, my cousin was complaining to me about a friend who only drank water, no fried foods, no sugar, no dairy, stuff like that and I asked does she have nice skin? and lo and behold I was told she surprisingly had really great skin, might just be a coincidence but I think not.

Of course a dermatologist will say food doesnt cause acne, cant make money promoting a healthy diet! Food has everything to do with acne, what we eat affects hormones, inflammation in the body, etc etc. Do your research people!

I have to disagree. I have noticed that acne is aggravated by food. For example: If I eat to much meat, milk, chocolate, ice-cream, or, junk food in general. There will be an acne flair up in response as a result. As oppose to that if I eat a clean diet and drink quality water. This will result in much nicer, clear skin. I do not think that the occasional food binge will cause this. However, as a lifestyle. I have noticed a clear correlation between the foods we eat and acne. I do believe that this is mostly caused by the inflammatory action of "bad" foods in the gastrointestinal system. Obviously, anything that causes poor health to the body. Will show up in the skin.
