You can do it! That was exactly like me - but I can say that my skin has improved so much ever since I stopped eating dairy and sugar.. Sugar wasn’t that hard to stop since I rarely eat sweets and stuff like that, but dairy was hard lol. First I started by switching out my milk for almond milk. I also found some dairy free butter called olivana or something (it’s made purely from olive oil) and tastes exactly like normal butter. Some peanut butters have no dairy in it- so you can do it!

The worst thing is that so many people don’t realise how much leads into acne and that it’s not only because u don’t drink enough water or don’t wash your face (even though I know it can make a small difference). All of my relatives and friends tell me that I have acne on my face like no shit I have a mirror. They always comment about this part of my body but tell me I shouldn’t worry about other peoples opinion. How am I supposed to ignore all of these comments when they tell me about my acne every single time they see me? It made me super insecure over the years and I feel like I changed so much because I don’t enjoy going out with friends etc anymore. I really hate it.. thank you for sharing this video!! It was really informative and I hope I’ll start to see a difference if I start to change my lifestyle and some habits!

i get u.. that used to happen to me a lot.. especially from my old ass grandma... or kids who would just straight asked what s that on your face? that made me super insecure and everytime it would happen it ruined my day.. i never do that to people who have acne.i never stare at them.. i know how uncomfortable it is. just fuck them! at some point i stoped giving a shit, i stopped wearing makeup, and started being all natural and feeling better about myself. i basically stopped letting it define me. i know it s not that easy, but try be a bit insensitive to all the shitty comments, and think more that they are shitty for doing that.

For a month: - I stopped consuming dairy and high-sugar products - Minimized my white rice portions (hehe i'm filipino so it's HARD) - Excercise 2-3 times a week (i'm also a student so i try to find as much time as possible) - Drink water and Green Tea -Sleep Early *IT IMPROVED MY SKIN* (i still get breakouts from my hormones during menstruation, but it's not that bad they disappear by the nsxt week) Update: STRESS SA SCHOOL SIS, MAHIRAP NA ANG 8 HOURS OF SLEEP 😂 Update: Nakakaminimize ng breakouts ang The Ordinary Niacinamide for me 👍 Quarantine Update: Since I have been staying at home, I get to exercise and sleep freely. Still sticking to the same skincare (new moisturizer). SCHOOL IS NEAR HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES, online school to be clear. I've been having a few breakouts, but it dissappears three to four days later (probably because of hormones and my parents keep buying sweet stuff this quarantine, wala na akong green tea huhuhuhu). college update: the broken schedule gave me a lot of free time 😂 so i'm not saying glass skin na ako pero mabilis na talaga mawala pimples ko. i'm planning to change my sunscreen na rin, since i have oily skin..... SKINCARE, WATER & EXERCISE are so helpful talaga.... wala na talagang green tea ate nyo 🙂✌️ 2022 update: I stopped using The Ordinary, I tried Cos de Baha. It's a new brand I tried, so far so good. I have been incorporating peptides in my skincare na. I moved to Cerave moisturizer. I don't get awful breakouts anymore 👍 I think it's my new routine or I think wala na ako sa "Raging Hormonal Teenager" era ko hehe. 2022 update: "maskne" is a MENACE. our summer classes for college is stressing me out. your girl over here is back to having hormonal acne and I HATE IT. don't worry, we can make a comeback 😭 2022 UPDATE: I AM SO HAPPY RN. Even if I wear masks a lot, I don't get mask acne anymore. I think it's because I stopped using makeup and make sure I wipe off my sweat when I go outside (BUT OFC DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN). I always make sure I clean my face properly when I come home. I have been cutting on the carbs and dairy. I have been incorporating more "greens" and probiotics in my diet. For me it gave me everything including ED as well. I am super sensitive to dairy so I breakout a lot when I eat anything that contains dairy. So i get super hysteric when i find out the food i ate contains dairy. it's a shame that I envy people who have clear skin because they can eat anything literally anything they want without worrying about these problems. well however, I've just accepted myself. you know what? Same experience here and I can confirm this worked on me too. I had cystic acne and no cream or pill helped to cure it. I could solve my problem only by dieting and changing my lifestyle. Every time I get lazy with it (sometimes it happens), the acne returns and I need to start all over again. I just want to complete the discussion with some more advices, hoping I might be of any help. 1) Sleep deprivation also have an impact on your acne because that can become a source of stress and trigger your hormones and acne: your body needs at least 7-8 hours of good sleep. Try to notice how your skin changes in the morning after a good night sleep and a night spent playing videogames or watching your favorite TV series until very late. 2) It’s also important to not stress yourself too much on your diet. It’s ok to not be too strict on yourself!! Don’t just avoid carbs or sugary food (especially if you move and exercise a lot during the week), but go for a low GI diet instead and focus more on combining food and avoiding sudden glycemic increases. If you need help with this, advice with a nutritionist! Carbs are important to get your energy during the day, so you should include a carb source at least with your lunch: a small portion (1/4 of your meal) is ok. Whole grain foods and pasta in general have a lower GI and they can be eaten in small portions at least 1-2 times per day. 2-3 times a week you can also still eat that steamed white rice in a smaller portion (50-60g), combined with vegetables and fish, or other foods that have low GI. Please consider that your acne might just be triggered, not only by lactose, but also by gluten or some proteins contained in wheat too. In this case, you need to identify the cause of your acne by trying to avoid all these things completely until you get better, and then reintroduce one food at a time in your diet for 1 month to see what happens (this is very nerve-wrecking, but once you know what’s causing your acne, you’ll be able to just avoid one thing instead of undergoing the stress of having to avoid many foods). Also, a small portion of white plain sugar-free yogurt mixed with 1 teaspoon of your favorite (preferably homemade) jam as a snack or at breakfast is also ok to eat. Actually, yogurt should be eaten as the first thing in the morning to be sure the bacteria works at their best in your empty guts. Yogurt (especially homemade yogurt) has a very low quantity of lactose and a low GI (even if it’s made with milk), so it can be eaten in relatively small quantities even by people whose lactose intolerance is not very high. 3) If you can, do a blood test to verify if you have deficits of zinc, iron and Vitamin D (which adults with acne and no specific intolerances most probably have due to their lifestyle), before taking any supplement. If you have such deficits, you should be careful to limit your intake of foods rich in phytic acid (soy-based products, seed-based oils and legumes that were not properly soaked before cooking) and pay attention to not take these supplements combined with these foods. Phytic acid can hindrance these minerals and vitamins absorption. 4) Please keep in mind that this kind of diet takes a lot of time to get the first results (at least 3-6 months) and each person is different, so try to stick to it for the first 3 months at least. For some people even just avoiding sugar, refined bread made with white wheat flour, sugary drinks, milk, junk food, fries and unhealthy snacks can make a huge difference. Of course you need to substitute these things with healthy alternatives: vegetables, fruits and water. Also, you should consider to change your lifestyle a little bit too, and reduce your stress-level in general as much as you can: sleep well, eat lots of vegetables, have a walk outside and reduce the time you spend in front of a screen.

My skin has improved a lot when I started eating healthy foods starting from May this year rather than following some expensive skincare routine. I limit eating junk and sugary foods (I really try to control my sugar intake as much as possible cuz that's my worst enemy). I eat lots of veggies. Dairy has no negative effect on me so I keep consuming that. When it comes to other bad carbs, for me it's just about limitation. I can eat rice but not every single day. Same goes with bread and other foods (but I for example don't eat crisps or cereal). As long as I don't binge eat it's fine and seriously, my skin has pretty much cleared up. I used to struggle with hormonal acne 2 years ago back when I used to eat lots of sugary foods and it was horrible. Cystic acne on my chin still appeared from time to time (last time the beginning of this year). I'm glad it's gone and I hope it never comes back.

I still don't think white rice is a problem, people in Asia have been eating it for centuries without having acne epidemics like they do today. That only started once western foods started getting introduced. Normal portions of white rice aren't the problem IMO. It's all the sugary stuff and dairy that is a huge problem now.

To each their own, depending on how each person's body react to food is the main key. I wouldn't be able to have dairy without breaking out and to some extend I will have to go to the loo. I remember in my teenage years I ate so recklessly, and I had so bad pimples and acne but I started making changes to my meals: 1. making my own bread (changing up the ingredients for whole meal flour and less sugar) 2. having black, red or brown rice 3. increasing intake of carrots, cabbage and tomatoes 4. so SO much salmon (because my grandma loved cooking salmon) 5. occasionally having some yoghurt for probiotics and right now even though I have extremely oily T-zones, they barely have any pimples or acne or anything actually my skin is so clear! I’ve been doing this for 4 years and I’ve never regretted it! Thank you Lia for making us more conscious about how to combat these pesky problems ❤️

milk is definitely a trigger here. It is unnatural for humans to drink another animal's breastmilk and it contains a lot of hormones. Cutting it out and replacing with almond, rice, grain milk made my skin clear up after around 3-5months.

Thank you for making this video. You wouldn't believe the number of dermatologists I've heard giving people I've known advice saying that food doesn't effect your acne... I was blown away when I heard that professionals are telling people that. The foods we eat are one of the main causes of acne and of course a plethora of other issues.

Sharing my opinion; I used to have a perfect clear skin year ago and I had perfect diet with only 1 dairy food that is milk. I used to exercise a lot and still do but one day I decided to do ice massage on my face and my whole face started burning. From next day onwards my skin begin to breakout. In conclusion it would be useless of suddenly stop avoiding all the stuff. All you need to do is know what suits you and work according to that. And don't forget to exercise:)

“avoid dairy and sugar” me, drinking a tea with milk and sugar: *,,,aight*
@karenramoodit55713 жыл бұрын
I hate drinking tea with milk (tea bag) I only use it with sugar and I barely use dairy products but you can drink it just in moderate amounts. Try drinking a glass or two of water after you wake up and brush your teeth and wait about 20-30 minutes then consume whatever you like. It’s horrible because I drink a huge glass of water but my face improved drastically. I also love to use castor oil on my face before I sleep, it gives the face a smooth feeling and brings out the impurities in your face.

Hi Liah! Loved the video, very informative! I'm a little disheartened. I saw my dermatologist recently about hormonal and cystic acne. We were talking about options and I mentioned changing my diet to help, and she straight up told me that there is no real evidence or proof that food and skin are connected. She told me it was a myth! That's so confusing. I thought maybe they just tell people that so you spend more on medication or something. :/
@LiahYoo7 жыл бұрын
I would never ever go back to any derm saying that there's no link between food and acne especially if yours are HORMONAL. There are numerous studies and researches by credentials backing up the theory of certain foods can cause acne. I recommend visiting and consulting to a naturopath if you need a more holistic approach of professional guidance! Of course the acne meds and topical skincare product your derm is prescribing you can help (and more likely give an instant result) but it's nothing more than masking the problem. Once you're off the meds, high chance you'll reunite with acne.. Sorry I'm so frustrated and upset at those authorities who doesn't believe acne is a disease that can be treated holistically!
@annacupofcoffee7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response! I was quite taken aback to hear this from a professional. I was originally diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called hidradenitis suppurativa or HS aka Acne Inversa. All of the forums and articles online suggest diets and foods to avoid, yet this doctor told me that it's all a myth! I began looking into holistic practices for more help. Though the medication I've been prescribed has helped I hoped that on my next follow up visit with the dermatologist that they'd help me find a solution to maintaining my newly cleared skin. :/
