Thanks dr Sam your products have made such a difference to my paired down skincare routine after being diagnosed with rosecea several months ago. Azelaic acid has really made a difference and cleared it up. Your moisturisers and cleanser, not forgetting flawless sunscreen are loved by my skin. I am using brightly in the morning, finacea at night and am working up to replacing finacea with your nightly serum. Can’t thank you enough for all the advice you put out, which has so helped me navigate my way through skincare.

Thanks for this...Really good to think about all this. As always, a wonderful source of knowledge. I always look for Glycerin but did not know about occlusives. Moisturise moisturise moisturise has helped my dry skin. I love your moisturiser and use it daily after your serums. It looks like your moisturiser has both humectants and occlusives as well as barrier repair ingredients so I am happy about that. I also like Curel Intensive cream & Dermalogica barrier relief.

Another helpful video. I like Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Replenishing moisturizer, especially in the winter. It contains peptides and hyaluronic acid. I use tretioin at night and ascorbic acid during the day so my skin can get flaky without a good moisturizer.

I've found that my skin definitely can't have just one moisturiser and I'm having to assess my skins needs on a daily basis especially since being on tretinoin. I'm currently trying a number of different moisturisers. I'm glad you did this video as so many people don't express the importance of having a number of moisturisers on rotation in your routine and I thought I was the only person with this problem as its not widely discussed. I can't wait to order your new eye cream next week I think it will really be beneficial to my eye area as I'm too scared to use my tretinoin prescription in this area x

My favourite spf is Isdin and Avene SensiMed and my go-to moisturizing cream is The Ordinary NMF. Sometimes I prefer to mix it with a few drops of squalane, esp during the winter. In the summer I love keeping it simple and use it alone! Sometimes I use HA as a humectant and lock the goodness with NMF. Thx again, God bless you!_*

At the time I go to the gym the sun is out so I wear a light moisturizer (toleraine ultra fluide) and than mineral sunscreen without washing my face. When I get back, I do cleansing, and the whole morning routine. Do you think that’s the right way to go?

Hello! That's what I do. If you wash your face before going to the gym, then again after the gym (when you take a shower), and once again in the evening, your skin might get irritated after all that cleansing. Sounds like you've got it right!

Thank you 😊 How do natural moisturising factors and electrolytes fit into this? I have rosacea and especially in winter I feel that nothing can ‘moisturise’ adequately. I believe it’s more hydration that’s the issue and have found some relief with adding a moisturiser with NMF and electrolytes. How do these compare to HAs?

Do both. I put on serums for actives/hydration (usually niacinamide, peptides & HA), then you can go with something like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturiser (fragrance free one) for more glycerin and hydration then something more occlusive to seal over the top (The Ordinary NMF, Something like the Repair line from Paula's Choice). Or just do the serums/thicker occlusive or hydro boost/thicker occlusive.

Thank you Doctor Sam for your comprehensive review. However my dermatology said quite firmly that I should not be using a moisturiser because I have oily and acne prone skin. I am very confused to be honest.
@Tay-nw9lt
@Tay-nw9lt 2 жыл бұрын
there are lots of products that are non-comedonegenic (don't cause acne) - both bacterial and fungal! idk if your dermatologist told you what kind of acne you have, but whether you have bacterial acne, fungal acne or both, there are definitely products out there that can work for you. additionally, having oily skin doesn't preclude you from moisturizing; you just have to be sure you cleanse thoroughly and then choose *the right* moisturizer for you.
@ivanuzzo81
@ivanuzzo81 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tay-nw9lt thank you for your response. I thought as much, before seeing this dermatology. I have common bacterial acne. Even in my old age :) I still have periods of flares and general worsening of my condition. I have to say that now that I am following the regime that she prescribed to me and that has no moisturiser (just a serum in the morning, which happens to have a little of HA), my skin is a lot less greasy and doesn't appear to be affected by the lack of a mosturiser. So in principle I'd be good to go. However I want to include a lightweight non-comedogenic sunscreen, and a sunscreen is also a moisturiser. So, If I did it, I'd go against her directions. That's why I am puzzled.
@tia8489
@tia8489 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have the same skin type as you. I really feel my skin benefits from a non comedogenic moisturiser like Dr Sam's flawless or the ordinary nmf, I use it at night and sunscreen alone in the morning. My actives treat my acne so my skin is clear regardless of using a bit of moisturiser x
@aidanm.5461
@aidanm.5461 2 жыл бұрын
I have acne prone skin, too, and a moisturizer actually really helped my skin and made my breakouts more calm. It also helped my breakouts heal quicker. You might try a lightweight non-comedogenic gel or lotion moisturizer. They don't feel too heavy.

Thank you all for commenting. My new sunscreen is on its way from Asia. I bought the one with the lightest formula that I could possibly find. I think this will be my one moisturiser. For the night-time I don't think I will need a moisturiser, considered that I didn't feel the need for the last three months. Bear in mind that I live in a place which is kind of humid all year round, on top of having really oily skin myself. Should I feel some tightness, or have itchy, flaky or scaly skin, I can always reach out for a non-comedogenic moisturiser. But beside that rare occurrence, I'll try to stick to my dermatology's moisturiser-free routine as much as possible, so that I don't have to blame myself in case it does not work.

Is it normal for the skin to feel a stinging sensation when moisturiser is applied to the face, or my skin barrier is compromise? 😊 thank you so much
@spreadthemessage15
@spreadthemessage15 Жыл бұрын
From what I have learned about skin care no, products shouldn't sting your face. Perhaps investigate a little more about why your face could be stinging because it could be caused by various factors like harsh products or simply using products that your skin doesn't like on a regular basis, skin irritations, too much sun or even hot water. It's possible that it has nothing to do with your moisturiser and there's something else that you're doing or using 🤔😯
@CJ_536

My face stings if I use something with vitamin c or retinol. It may be that you are sensitive to an ingredient. Some people are sensitive to fragrance. Almost everything contains fragrance even if it doesn't smell like it. You might want to look for something fragrance-free. I am a fan of vanicream when my skin is irritated. It is free of most known irritants and has no actives. It never stings, though it feels heavy till it soaks in.

My only gripe with the Avene Tolerance Extreme Emulsion is the awful awful packaging. When my skin barrier is compromised it is truly the only product I've found that doesn't irritate my skin but you can only use half the tube before it completely stops letting you dispense any more product. The nozzle where the product comes out of always gets clogged too. I wish they'd just put in in a normal pump or a normal squeeze tube! x
