Dentist tips: wait 30 minutes after brushing to drink/eat anything (teeth are in fragile state and more susceptible); better to brush teeth before coffee to get rid of biofilm on teeth to help decrease staining; Brush your tongue; don't use mouthwash that has alcohol in in (we hate listerine); you can put toothpaste on floss to get that fluoride in between teeth where a lot of cavities form; after eating/drinking, swish with water. it will help neutralize the pH (help prevent cavities) and can help from staining; don't open things with your teeth :)

Dr Sam!! Omg. Your point about retinol has absolutely helped me SO SO much!!! I only use tretinoin for anti-aging. And I can only tolerate .025% if I go any higher my skin reacts and turns red and all the things. So I’ve been “stuck” here for years. And I’ve always thought… man. I’m missing out on doubling or quadrupling the anti-aging benefits of the stronger formulas. It hasn’t given me anxiety but it’s made me a little disappointed for sure. Knowing that I don’t ever need to go up in strength to realize the full benefits for Tret for anti-aging makes me feel so incredibly better. Thank you so much for sharing this information, I can sit on .025% forever now and do so knowing I’m getting all the benefits I need. Ugh this just made my day ❤❤❤
@Eosch109 сағат бұрын
You said “years” - how many and have you seen any positive results of using it for anti-aging purposes? Reason I ask is because I used it at a low dosage for about a year and my face never acclimated never calm down …it continuously peeled and stayed red/irritated, so I stopped.
@debrak359412 сағат бұрын

It is so refreshing to hear a dermatologist dispel the myth that you can train your scalp to produce less oil! I wash my hair every 2-3 nights, and even by then, it is an oily mess. People constantly tell me to try this. I tell them I have, and that persisting with it did was make me incredibly itchy and uncomfortable all the time, get dandruff and look oily. Trying to persist had me super aware of how terrible it felt all the time. They tell me it's because I didn't do it right or that I didn't do it for long enough. 😂 It's good to know my scalp is just genetically oily, just like my face.

YES! I lost access to water in my house for a year, and could only wash my hair once a week when we could visit family, and my scalp was in HORRIBLE shape when we finally got water and could wash my hair regularly. I wash my hair every other day in the winter and every day in the summer, but my scalp is so much healthier.

Dr Ellis a year ago I had one finger where the nail had stopped growing and it was getting a jagged edge,Dermatologist tested for fungus which was negative. Then I was told it was nail dystrophy, and just cover it up with nail polish. I thought that didn’t sound right went back to dermatologist he then took a biopsy and it was a melanoma under my nail. Needles to say my finger tip had to be amputated. This was not caused by sun damage,and they really don’t know except to say it was probably environmental. I guess I’m say all this to let people know to be persistent when you know something is not right.

Since you asked… as a therapist who works with high achieving people, that inner critical voice does not actually help you do better. There is no human performance research to support that driving people (or ourselves) in a harsh or negative way improves outcome or performance. The question is not is this voice helping me succeed, but how much more successful could I be without it.

PS- if you are thinking that you only can get yourself to perform when you are under pressure, you might want to get evaluated for ADHD. Goes undiagnosed in a lot of smart high achieving women. Happy Friday!

I was told by a psychologist that being hard on yourself can actually make you accomplish less because it "satisfies" one's guilt: if you feel bad for not doing well, and then beat yourself up over it, your mind feels like the bad behavior has been appropriately punished, and can relax, thus cutting off that "live end" of ambition you had. It rings true for me, at least!

Your videos are excellent Dr Ellis……very educational and informative not to mention your understanding of the reality of the everyday. What I’d like to know is, when layering products…..vitamin C, serums, moisturizers…..do you need to wait any length of time between applications to be effective and if so, how long? Also, I’m one of the lucky people that has never had an issue with Trentinoin ever, but how long after washing my face do I need to wait to apply and the wait time to use moisturizer? Thank you and looking forward to more videos from you!

Mineral sunscreens leave a white cast because the same zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that are in them, are what we use for white paint - your fridge, washing machine, oven, walls?, furniture paint and my artists paints. There are a few other white pigments that are not as safe and/or not as good, that's why zinc and titanium are standard, duh. Sincerely, an art student "Minerals sunscreens tend to leave a white cast..." titanium dioxide is the most opaque, strongest white we have, how much do you 'dilute' it for ot to not show up on anyone and still be effective? Forgot to add that they are most commmonly used due to their ligtfastness and opacity, titanium is superrior to zinc for these qualities, but for us artist that can also be a negative 🤷🏼♀️

Sunscreen in the car is something I do and I have a question about that. Does the delivery vehicle no pun intended of the sunscreen matter here? Does it matter if it is a a stick, spray or powder vs a liquid? Those are what I tend to keep in the car… not the liquid. It is too hot where I live here in the Central Valley here in summer, most of the time I just go in with my my color science stick or I might get the Cielle powder on my face and I like the sprays on the body to touch up.

Am l just not a as good candidate for using it?? I’m 59 and have always had good, but hyper sensitive skin with eczema. Sould you put your spf on before or after serums? And is there a difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens as to what point in your routine you should apply it? I notice that once my mineral sunscreen dries, if I put anything on top, it pills so I put it on last but not sure that's an effective spf then. Can you clarify?
@NotImpressed2210 сағат бұрын
SPF goes after serums and moisturizer. If pilling occurs, try not to mix water-based and silicone based products in the same routine or layer them carefully.

As a former therapist, what is not obvious to many people is chronically bad interactions with your spouse are rarely solved by directly calling it out. It's almost always best to CHANGE YOUR PART for the long term (ie not change to "test" your spouse.) By changing ourselves, it shifts the bad interactional dance. Also, it's not obvious to most, but there are tons of ways to do this and the specific situational details do matter.
