I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease 38 years ago when I was 20. After two bowel, resections and years of trying different medications, I finally discovered intermittent fasting. That, coupled with eating what God made instead of what man has made, has been the gold standard for me. I have been medication free for 10 years! Occasionally I will have a minor flareup. But thank God I am able to bring it back under control with healing food and fasting instead of drugs! I thank Jesus for this path to wellness that He has lead me on!

I had ulcerative colitis in 2017. Had a scope done, doctor said the next step is to get my intestine removed and have a bag installed on my side. I told him I need a few days to soak it in before scheduling the appointment. Researched online, found fasting and everything you covered here. Within 2 months I was symptom free, been symptom free ever since. Our health system is broken.

You saved yourself a lot of trouble. The ileostomy is not a good long-term solution. Yes, you can live with it. J-pouch is better, but it's just an internal version of the same. Still suboptimal. You lucked out that the fasting fixed it. I did elimination diets and didn't have success with it. I'm still convinced the gut bacteria were the driver for me. Stay away from any surgeon that's that eager to cut. 8 years as a surgical tech and assistant before UC forced my career change. The kind of surgeon you want is patient and meticulous. I had a referral to one, met for a consult twice, but because I was very reticent, I waited two years before I got to where I simply couldn't live with the UC anymore. I got lucky. My surgeon was an artist and I had a better-than-textbook recovery. I couldn't have asked for better care than I received from the whole surgical team. Even so, if I could have solved it with an elimination diet or intermittent fasting or even a homegrown fecal transplant (yes, I was that desperate), I would have done it, and I still would today given the choice. Life after that kind of surgery is very different, and you can't really appreciate how different until you're living with it. Best of luck keeping things in remission!

I was in hospital in 2021 for 3 days. I fasted the whole time, only drank water. I could not believe the food they brought. At least 3 items were sugary with each meal. I was eventually diagnosed as having ulcerative colitis about 18mths after my problems started. I unknowingly drank water from a house tap that sourced its water from the cowshed! Long story short my diarrhea never stopped and bleeding started. My immune system went into overdrive and nearly killed. I was on 120mg prednisone/ day, pentasa, then methotrexate and cyclophosphomide to tone down the immune response. Dealt with this for two years with the hospital, gastroenterologist and dietitians not knowing what to do. I went down to 49 kg in hospital. They eventually gave up on me. Then I knew I was history if I didn't help myself. The surgeon wanted to cut everything out and the meds made me feel very sick. I did research and with the help and advice from some amazing people, I took mega dose vit C every day to counteract the side affects of the steroids, took large spoonfull of raw manuka honey disolved in lukewarm water every morning (seemed to reduce the bleeding significantly), did a detox (liver function was extremely poor after consuming those meds!), took digestive enzymes, pro biotics etc and for two years ate nothing but raw foods. No wheat, barley, oats, rye, no sugars (raw manuka honey seemed just fine), no meat, no dairy, no eggs, no fish, zero processed foods! My health practitioner tested for foods that wouldn't cause inflamation and that was all I ate, so allowing healing to start. A long slow and tough path to take but all meds bar the prednisone (had to ween myself off that) I stopped taking. I have had no surgery, no scar tissue (specialist could not believe his eyes) and am healthy 30yrs on.

@lyndonkapoor8823
@lyndonkapoor8823 Жыл бұрын
@MrZoomZone hi, the one grain I could tolerate was buckwheat. My nutritionist took the (short) list of foods and produced a 7 day meal plan to ensure I was getting the best nutrition possible each day. This restricted diet required supplementation with various vitamins and minerals. Due to bowel condition I always tested very low for a range of B vitamins so had monthly shots in the arm with a multi B injection and also folic acid ftom memory. Often had IV vit C too. I would get my foods tested every two weeks. It was fab to see a new food pop up as ok to add to the "do eat" list as my gut and bowel slowly recovered. I could never get over 65kg invthose first two years eating what I guess was a vegan diet. I felt too light and thin with not enough reserves for when I might catch a cold for example, however as the range of foods I could add started to grow exponentially, I started to put more weight on. Therapeutic massage also helped build muscle mass without having to do gym work. The turning point for me was the detox I did with my gp's help (she was a special person who thought outside of the box) as that alone put me on the path to recovery. I eat a full range of organic foods. Not cheap, but I gave up other things in my life to be abe to afford it. Zero junk food. Virtually no processed foods. I had a foot high pile of research papers, articles, my meal plans, test results and notes that I accumulated along this journey. All gone after my friend talked me into loaning this to his friend who had been diagnosed with bowel problems. Apparently she lost it and couldn't return it. I was mortified.

Very sad that we are lied to about the basics of nutrition. Fasting can also be helpful to undo some of the damage accrued over the years! Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers, but some patients may need continued acid reducation medication while fasting. Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' that is not supposed to be there. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS. The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. Yes ! IBS does not exist. It's a label for an IBD condition caused by long term consumption of seed oils. Soybean oil is very inflammatory but canola oil is the most inflammatory of all seed oils. It has a 30:1 O6 to O3 ratio. It's poison and the more seed oils are reused the more inflammatory and poisonous they become. Industrial seed oils are poison like artificial sweeteners e.g. aspartame, acesulfame and sugar alcohols e.g. mannitol, sorbitol and plant based sugars like stevia that can not be broken down nor absorbed and cause GI issues. The higher the intake of garbage like stevia, mannitol and sorbitol the more of a laxative effect you will get.

Bravo, Dr. Dhand. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in1981 and was told to eat ice cream and drink beer to gain back the weight I had lost! I refused to take medications and my 'gut feeling' was to look at food as the reason and the cure. I changed my diet 180 degrees, took probiotics, aloe vera, etc. etc......people thought I was crazy. It took longer to address because this was an unheard of approach and there were very few resources available...it was a trial and error journey. Now, just as Dr. Dhand has explained, it's the common sense approach.

In 1970, under tremendous stress because doctors thought my newborn baby had cancer. Stress brought on constant diarreah. I was 120 lbs. Doctors did not help me. I went down to 100 lbs. A fluoroscope revealed a sore in my left side of the large colon. They diagnosed, colitis. I needed to get well for my baby. I meditated. It came to me that marshmallows would be easy on the colon and might stop the diarreah. Granted in those days, marshmallows weren't as junky as today. I took one marshmallow before and after each meal and before bed. Within two weeks, I no longer had diarreah. I've been telling people for all these years. Its worked for them too. I put this here for the same reason. Only to help people. Diet didn't help me. I became well to take care of my baby who by the age of two was fine. Praise God.

I suffer from Crohn’s Disease. I am 6'1 guy, and for 3 years, I was just above 100 lbs, sometimes even under that at my worst. I had very low bone density and was constantly fatigued, sleeping 12 hours a day, and eating once every 1-2 days. Worst was the near-constant pain I was in, both due to the actual crohn's disease as well as multiple internal abscesses I developed as complications requiring surgical removal (one in a very unfortunate position that made going to the toilet and sitting upright an absolute hell for 6 months). I was put on some heavy-duty medications like, azathioprine, prednisone and Humira. While I could actually feel the positive benefits of prednisone (reducing inflammation, even though it came with side effects that meant I couldn't take it long term), and knew azathioprine was having an effect based on my reduced WBC counts from blood draws (whether that was good or bad I don't know), I still am convinced to this day that Humira is a massive scam that literally did nothing to my body, even though I self inject the stuff weekly for about 2 years. Apparently, it is based on TNF-alpha pathway inhibition, but I was never checked to confirm that I had abnormal levels of TNF alpha. Maybe I had some other inflammatory pathway that was out of wack that was unrelated to TNF-alpha. Why don't doctors ever question whether the medication they give to patients is actually working as intended on a mechanistic level? Instead, they check for ubiquitous inflammatory makers like c reactive protein as a proxy benchmark to see if the treatment works. At that point, why not ask the patient if they still feel pain from inflammation instead of drawing that out by ordering a dozen useless blood tests that all confirm the obvious? One day I actually passed out during a university lecture due to a stricture, I had to be taken to the ER. This time the doctors suggested entirely removing the diseased section of my intestines, which I agreed to since the medicine had not worked for the past three years. I got the surgery three months later, and after a month of recovery, I realized that I could finally eat food without pain. I felt like I was given a second lease on life and began to carefully eliminate pro-inflammatory foods from my diet and almost exclusively ate high-protein foods (a lot of red meats). I didn't eat anything hyper-processed and even started working out (it was very pitiful at; first, I remember struggling to lift 8 lbs weights). 5 Years later, I am 200 lbs and very fit, and I still don't have any Crohn’s Disease-related symptoms. I never returned to taking any of my old medications, even though my doctors kept pestering me to restart Humira and get colonoscopies which I thankfully never did. They kept trying to scare me that my symptoms would return if I didn't, but my gut told me that I was healthy now and to stay as far away from the doctor's office as possible. If you looked at me now, you would have no idea what I was going through just 5 years earlier. While I know the medication I was put under was a waste of time, I don't think I ever stood a chance without the surgery (my diseased intestines looked like a chewed-up and gnarled dog toy), I was probably too far gone to recover with just lifestyle changes. I was an extreme case and developed every Crohn's related complication at some point; for most people with more moderate Crohn's I genuinely believe you could vastly improve your situation by eating more contentiously and exercising without the need for medication like Humira no matter what the adverts and doctors tell you. The one positive from he hell I went through is that made motivated me to self-learn more about my condition, and I eventually graduated with a biochem major. I now work in research related to genome sciences and bioinformatics. The more I learned, the more skeptical I became about the medical establishment and its mispractices and flawed approaches. A lot of it is not deliberately malicious (there are plenty of good-natured and well-intentioned people in medicine), but a worrying amount of it blatantly is.

I have dealt with GERD for approx 25 years. I went to several specialist, esp the first decade or so. All they did was throw me on medications and run expensive tests. One doctor at the Mayo Clinic told me I was a hypochondriac. It's 20 years later, and I'm still dealing with it, and I'm still on meds. That said, I had a sudden onset of abdominal pain 7/3/2019. It came from absolutely out of nowhere one day and didn't leave for 2 solid years. It was excrutiating. My PC ran several tests, for which I was thankful in that case. Knowing I had a hx of endometriosis (which the surgeon who did my hysterectomy NEVER told me about), she sent me to a different surgeon. Not only did that magnificent man take care of the endo (it's 3.5 years later, and I have zero issues with that), but he also listened to me talk about the abdominal pain I was experiencing. While removing the endo, he searched high and low for the cause of the pain. He couldn't find anything that stood out. He said it was most likely something I should discuss with a GI doc, but he suggested I drop gluten and dairy in the meantime. It took 1-1.5 years of eating very clean and fasting, but my px eventually subsided. So many things improved for me, and I will forever be thankful for my PC and for this GYN specialist. They truly listened, didn't just throw pills at me, and they changed my life.

Hello Doctor Dhand. I think you’re absolutely correct about processed food. Additionally, people should remove all added sugars, all processed grains from their diets, & 100% of grains, if you eat grains grown in the 🇺🇸, bc of the ubiquitous use of glyphosate (chemical in herbicide, Roundup). Third, there a great deal of data relating inflammatory autoimmune disorders to low vagal tone. It’s been found that the vagus nerve (responsible for the sympathetic nervous system’s response- “fight/flight/freeze”), as a result of significant traumatic events during the various stages of, childhood, plays a critical role in the future development of inflammatory autoimmune disorders*. *SEE: Poly-vagal Theory

Great video. Although healthy food is uncommon it is still there and can be found; but it may cost more and that is a problem for people who are poor. As for us, we grow all we can and do our own cooking. We minimize carbs (including sugar), do not eat white bread or processed foods, and do not consume seed oils - thereby we have eliminated most inflammatory inducing foods. Sadly the mainstream food and medical industries continue to push inflammatory food therefore they are themselves are dangerous health hazards - who would have guessed that doctors are part of that health industry that first does harm.

The gastroenterologist I was referred to labeled it as IBS, prescribed an antispasmodic that didn't help, and basically told me to check back in a year. When I asked if the antibiotics might have destroyed my microbiome, or if I could have ongoing symptoms related to my coincidental C*vid infection, I was laughed at. My diet has gone south since the start of the lockdown, and after randomly self-testing my blood glucose I'm pretty sure I'm pre-diabetic now too. It all makes sense.

IBD caught my interest the moment I heard about it. When I heard treatment includes bowel resection and colostomy, all I could think of is hemiphrenectomy for heartburn (open chest surgery to cut one of the nerves supplying the stomach) since zantac, omeprazole and knowledge of h pylori, this is thankfully no longer needed. I am biomedical scientist in immunology and used to do the TB Quantiferon test. It was used to exclude latent TB for patient facing healthcare staff, visa medicals and for rheumatology patients hoping to be dosed with the latest biologic/monoclonal antibody. I noticed that patients from one hospital that specialised in gastroenterology seemed to have a much higher incidence of test=indeterminate than any other patient cohort. This happens when the positive control, phytohemagglutinin, fails to illicit a interferon gamma response. This was always batted away with excuses about patients being on various first and second choice immunosuppression. Then I read paper by Hradsky 2014 that confirmed it's disease activity that causes lack of TB Quantiferon test response, rather than medication.

Excellent video ! Someone has to tell those things ! I was diagnosed with UC 7 years ago and the drugs only mede my condition worst. I tried some "whole foods" and "plant based" diets that were useless. Cutting processed foods containing seed oils and all gluten was a good thing... but all those "healthy" unprocessed and organic foods continued to inflame my bowel, my eyes and my joints. I had to cut not only processed foods but also plant foods in general and all carby foods : including veggies, fruits, legumes, cereals (rice, bread, pasta), starches, spices, herbs, coffee, chocolate, nuts, honey, algae, mushrooms... 99.9% of non animal foods seems to be more inflammatory for me that certain processed foods (depending on the ingredients). I don't eat insects in any form (insects are "animals" but they contain too many allergens and antinutrients, the same antinutrients we can find in plants). Now I only eat nutrient dense foods : all kinds of meats (1:1 ratio fat:protein), preferably fatty meats, fish, animal fats, some organ meats, fermented dairy like real cheeses made with animal rennet and preferably with raw milk (not roquefort or gorgonzola as they contain gluten). And this diet works so well, no more horrible flare ups (unless I eat some I shouldn't for a week or so)... also my anxiety and my gout are gone, my sight and my dermatitis are better... and I am not hungry all day like I was before.

I love that you point out that everyone is different and their changes will need to be unique to them! What turns many off to nutritional advice are well intentioned people who deliver their message with too much superiority, judgment, and virtue signaling about their own dietary practices. Your 'coaching' approach is so much better than lecturing and shaming. People like to be inspired and empowered, not ridiculed or humiliated. As a floor nurse in busy med-surg unit, I get a lot of opportunities to talk to people about their health and treatment plans. I try to be alert for those 'teachable moments' when a patient might be ready for some thoughtful discussion and receptive to advice. I present my suggestions as an invitation to try some lifestyle changes, and with as much encouragement as I can muster in the hope that they will be successful in finding what works for them. Thank you for your inspiration and encouragement to all of us! I refer people to your channel all the time, and have actually walked in on patient's watching on their iPad, phone, or laptop! I swear I lived on blueberries and baked sweet potatoes for a year. BUT I’ve been well for 20 years now. I do not eat processed foods. I do not eat pork. I do not eat sugar. I changed to primarily a Mediterranean diet. For sweet taste, I take natural honey from a bee farm or date syrup. I also learned to focus my mind, even if for 2 minutes a day. IBS/Crohns steals the quality of life. I pray people take their health into their own hands as their primary goal. Healing from IBS/Crohns IS a lifestyle change with diet and routine; but is very possible.

There’s other, recent causes, too. My husband suffered severe abdominal pain the night of his first Pfizer jab. He went to the bathroom and began passing blood. He had bloody diarrhea for weeks after and occasionally since. Also, a few years ago, my cat had her rabies booster and developed horrible IBD-constant diarrhea, sometimes 6-8 times a day. This lasted for a long time. I get her flairs under control with Slippery Elm. It does wonders for soothing the bowel. She’s not been the same, health-wise, since. No more boosters for her. (Nor hubby).

Someone told me today they are having problems, as is his Mother and his brother and they've all have 5 shots!! I hope your kitty and hubby both recover. Dr. Andrew Jones (BC, Canada) is a great veterinarian (on youtube) and has excellent videos on natural treatments. He was so harassed by the establishment, he left the profession and took up youtube! Maybe check him out.

There are videos showing Dr. Sabine Hazan's work. She identified vaccinated people who had their gut wiped clear of bacteria that we need there. So it's not just Glyphosate and antibiotics that ruin our wonderful microbiome - now it's vaccines too !

My sister was rushed into hospital, with the same problem, after receiving her 3rd booster 💉 But swears the 💉 wasn't the cause 🙄 Neither myself or my kids, have gone anywhere near the 💉's

Correct, inflammatory bowel disease requires personalized medicine, often by trial and error. Good to stop all foods and then do trial by adding one food at a time to determine which foods are well tolerated and which foods are not tolerated well.

Struggled with IBS symptoms for most of my life but when I cut out almost all alcohol ,sugar, bread, rice and ate a higher fat diet those symptoms mostly went away. Acidophilus and Greek yogurt was a big help with my gut problems as well.

Thank you for raising this awareness. So very important to understand what we eat, as we are the product of what we consume. Study nutrition folks.....you'll know more than any doctor can help you with.....fresh, fermented, free of pesticide, 3 F's.....oatmeal, sauerkraut, pickles, sourdough for bread etc, as organic as you can get them, settles things. Monsanto wheat is apparently undigestible for most humans, as is canola for some. Yousa. Most important, EAT.....for many sad reasons, I see folks also not eat enough......2 meals, 2 meals, 2 meals......and you're quickly short 3 meals in 3 days......your gut hates you now and the shute doesn't work.....add some extended stress, and voila. Eat well, bon appetit....with friends and family, even better.
