If the Old Testament states that a sacrificial lamb need be spotless, and if Mary even had the slightest touch of sin, certainly our Lord, the lamb of God, would have some chaff hanging on to Him. So it would make sense to believe she was spared from sin, that she was full of grace m, blessed, and sinless and therefore a favored one so to speak. All that aside I wouldn’t trust a Bible that a certain king decided upon himself to remove books of the Bible and reinterpret it the way he felt. I couldn’t trust, in particular, a Christian religion that started no earlier than 5-6 hundred years ago. Just my opinion tho. 🤷♂️

Great episode. The thing that struck me is reading the original Greek, you see other places where someone is referred to as full of grace (e.g. Stephen in Acts 6:8), the phrase "plērēs charitos is used. When Gabriel addresses Mary, he uses the word kecharitōmenē which indicates a person who has always been fully imbued in grace. Which makes the "most favored" in KJV, NAB left wanting. The answers have been there all along. Ave Maria, gratia plena
@josemariademanila677 Жыл бұрын
You are right! The NAB downgraded the translation of Luke 1.28 by rendering it as "so highly favored" instead of the "so filled with Grace". Ironically it rendered Ephesians 2.8 Τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι διὰ πίστεως (te gar KARIti sesomenoi dia pisteos) i.e. "You are saved by Grace (KARIti) through Faith (pisteos)." (Ep 2.8). What was more marvelous in Luke 1 was that Gabriel's confirmation that Mary was kekaritoumene (or filled with KARIS or Grace) ahead of the time that Jesus was to earn it from the cross. Truly God cannot be hemmed-in by space and time, and he applied this Grace ahead of Calvary to Mary - to prepare a clean vessel for the Son of God. Salve Mater Redemptoris semper!

I pray the rosary regularly and in that contemplative state I often scan across this question. I'm pretty sure I know the correct answer, but I sincerely respect your response. "Blessed be the Holy and Undivided Trinity, now and forevermore. Amen."

Great question. Once the Immaculate Conception has been understood we realize Mary is the first person born without sin. Therefore she is not given to sin and evil cannot defeat her just like Jesus. In Douay-Rheims version of Genesis God tells Satan 'You will wait for her heel & She will crush your head' He was referring to the future and the Blessed Mother. Satan fears her more than the Holy Trinity. Ask an Exorcist if you don't believe me. Every time we say the Hail Mary it is like a Nail in Satans head. Think about that. We have that power and it's stunning to understand. Yet we let Satan deceive us over and over. Pray the Rosary and give moral strength back to humanity.

The Bible never confirmed that Blessed Mary is a SINLESS person... She proclaimed, acknowledged, and said, "My SPIRIT rejoices in God, MY SAVIOR." (ref. Luke 1:47)... Logically speaking, if she is SINLESS, she does not need a SAVIOR... The R.C.C. just created the Doctrine of IMMACULATE CONCEPTION in 1854 A.D. by Pope Pius IX... then, after 4 years in 1958 A.D., an APPARITION came to Bernadette Souvirous in Lourdes, France, revealing that Blessed Mary is an Immaculate Conception... Is it ODD that R.C.C. DOGMA came first and was proclaimed in 1854 A.D. before the REVELATION through the Apparition in 1858 A.D. ... It should come first the REVELATION from Heaven, before the PROCLAMATION of the CHRUCH... Just like the Prophecies/Revelation that started from the O.T. and then, through the Fulfillment of the N.T. ... that is the BIBLICAL PROTOCOL (S.O.P.) ... I’ve been told The Virgin Mary … is the New Ark of the Covenant by carrying Christ : the Way, the Truth, and, the Life. How could God be carried by anyone but a sinless one, how could He be nourished in-the -womb by anyone other than a sinless woman?

I am not Catholic, ok, I am not one who thinks that it is an either or thing, with Catholics and Protestants, I just have never been in that camp, as to the Lord's mother and such, I can't say that I believe all that the church has said concerning her, I do believe that she has spoken to many people, so there has to be something to that. I can remember myself struggling with my faith, and questioning my very salvation, and I heard the voice of a woman tell me, I was a child of God, I never forgot that, I am thinking it may have been the Lords mother.

The Apostles Creed includes, "I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy catholic church, the communion of Saints..." What does the "communion of Saints" mean to non-Catholics who pray that prayer? What is the purpose of the Saints? Everything Dr. Marshall said about those in heaven has Biblical references so if Protestants don't believe that, why do they pray the Apostles Creed? Thank you, Dr. Marshall, for spending time this day to discuss the Blessed Mother. Your points were excellent and spot on.

Note that what passes as Christian has been more and more diluted over the centuries. Now Christians claim that today’s Christianity is more pure and they have no regard for what the first Christians believed. Sort of how humans think they are more enlightened now while they march to their destruction.

According to historical accuracies in Galilean Jewish culture, Mary was between 12 and 16 years old when she gave birth to Jesus. It is possible she remained sinless until the time she gave birth. I'd argue it's possible for lots of children to remain sinless until that age. But: Mary does not "have" to have remained sinless her entire life after that, and I do not believe for a second that she did. Otherwise she is on an equal playing field with Jesus Christ and that undermines what Christ was able to achieve that no man can, which is, remain sinless until death at 33. For Catholics to claim that not only was Mary born without original sin but also remained sinless, undermines the point of Christ's necessity. Catholics are literally claiming that without Christ, its still possible for a person to live a sinless life. If that's the case then no Christ is necessary. It all makes so much less sense than making Jesus himself be the one born without original sin via divine intervention. Mary can be saved and elated to the status of the apostles and prophets all while retaining original sin AND being a sinner. So I don't buy, it I'm sorry, Catholics. You're alone on this one. I wouldn't bet my salvation on it and I don't think you guys should either, because there is nothing to be gained from it, and everything to be lost by acting on it. *"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."* (Exodus 20:4-6, King James Version)

God knew Mary when it was said in Genesis 3:15 "I will put enmity (separation) between between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers". He will strike at your head while you strike at his heel". The reference to "Her" is regarded as Mary and her offspring is referred to as Jesus. This is the reference to the New Eve (Mary) or new "woman". Eve means woman.

Mary was the new Eve. Eve was created sinless. God needed/wanted to repair the fall of Eden...to make that just and right, He needed the woman from Genesis who like Eve was created sinless but instead of the fall/choosing evil, she remained and chose righteousness instead. Makes sense that to repair something you need to use the same parts and make it the way it was supposed to be. The Early Church also called Mary "the new Eve". God bless the Early Church for writing so much truth...it's the ONLY reason I am a Catholic and not any other denomination:+) God bless~

It is true that Mary was saved by Jesus Christ. But does it not tickle your curiosity that the Angel Gabriel himself confirmed the fact that Mary was full of Grace? The Greek word in the New Testament for GRACE is χᾰ́ρῐς (Karis) -- which in common parlance means favor or free gift, -- but was used in the New Testament Theology as the jargon for Divine GRACE. Hence St Paul said Τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι διὰ πίστεως (te gar KARIti sesomenoi dia pisteos) i.e. "You are saved by Grace (KARIti) through Faith (pisteos)." (Ep 2.8). YES, ALL OF US are saved (including Mary) -- ONLY by the GRACE emanating from the merits that Christ earned by his Sufferings, Death, and Resurrection - -- and we obtain it ONLY through FAITH that we received from the Apostles within the ministry of the Church that Jesus founded on Peter and the Apostles, not from the BIble. Thus, even the Blessed Virgin Mary was save through the Grace that Christ earned for us. That was why the Angel Gabriel confirmed that even the Virgin Mary was saved by KARIS or GRACE (Lk 1.28) when He said to Mary Χαῖρε κεχαριτωμένη, ὁ Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ (Lk 1.26-38) (Kaire KeKARItomene! O Kyrios meta sou!) Hail keKARITOmene, the Kyrios is with you! Hail So full of Grace, the Lord is with you! (Lk 1.28) Yes, the angel Gabriel was not lying to confirm that God applied to her in advance His Divine Grace so as to be the worthy human vessel of the Holy One, freed from the stigma of sin present in the fallen human nature because the Infinite God is not subject to the limits of space and time.

Cardinal Newman - Does not the objector consider that Eve was created, or born, without original sin? Why does not this shock him? Would he have been inclined to honour Eve in that first estate of hers? Why, then, Mary? Does he not believe that St. John Baptist had the grace of God-i.e., was regenerated, even before his birth? What do we believe of Mary, but that grace was given her at a still earlier period? All we say is, that grace was given her from the first moment of her existence. We do not say that she did not owe her salvation to the death of her Son. Just the contrary, we say that she, of all mere children of Adam, is in the truest sense the fruit and the purchase of His Passion. He has done for her more than for anyone else. To others He gives grace and regeneration at a point in their earthly existence; to her, from the very beginning.

@@dentryn4365 If the bible...which Is proclaimed to be ... "GOD BREATHED"...(and without error) had asked us to kneel before a statue of Mary.. and to ask to "consecrate the world to the "sacred heart" of Mary....then I would oblige the Lord's commands. But IT DOES NOT. On the contrary, we're commanded to love the Lord with our whole mind, heart soul, and strength. It doesn't say that catholics should place Mary in front of our Savior. Even your rosary (invented around the 15th century and not from our Lord) does not ask us to pray this way. (I would question whether Mary would appear to a bishop and ask him to invent something that was not proclaimed by God)... In fact, the Lord says "Lean not on your own understanding" and the scriptures indicate...that "everything we do...we do for the Lord. Do we love Mother Mary..? Yes! Lastly, do you know that Jesus the Son..created Mary? Yes...HE did....and we're told biblically...to worship THE CREATOR AND NOT THE CREATED. Blessings my brothers and sisters in Christ. @@Retiredjournalist88 Not everything is in the bible. Oral tradition was before the bible was written down and was considered on par by the early Christians and the Church today. Catholics also love Our Lord and contrary to popular belief, we do not place Mary in front of our Saviour. That is not what Dr. Marshall is doing when discussing why Mary is sinless. He is a convert to the Catholic faith and even he can understand her role. Actually, Our Lady gave the Rosary to St. Dominic in 1215 to combat the Albigensian heresy. Yes ,the Church does question the apparitions of Mary and not all are approved but even those that are can take years. True, Mary was created and all She does is for the Lord especially when She said yes to bear God's only begotten Son. Exactly "Lean not on your own understanding" because it's been the cause of conflict and division for thousands of sects now that can't agree on Scripture. We do worship the Creator and not the created and when you understand that Catholics know the difference, you will make progress.

We don't stray from it...add to it....take away from it...... Yes...there are some holy traditions from our apostles...but it's dangerous to kneel before Mary and ask her to intercede to Jesus for you. This simply is NOT how God asked us to pray. Have you not read that there is but ONE Mediator between God and man..and that is the LORD Jesus Christ. If all catholics worldwide pray and ask Mary to intercede for them to Jesus.. does Mary then take all One billion catholic prayers to our Lord... I try to imagine a billion catholics praying to Mary....What is the Lord doing at this time? Does He sit at the right hand of the Father....waiting for Mary to arrive with a billion prayer requests... If Jesus tells us in scripture over and over..."Come unto Me" ask your Father and HE will hear your prayers... When you pray in secret...go in your room and ORAY TO THE FATHER in secret.....and ask...HE will give you the desires of your heart. It goes from you to the Father through Jesus...
