If you want to learn how to introduce longevity into your clinic but feel overwhelmed with conflicting information then I'm hosting a webinar with Dr Nichola on the 28th May especially for clinicians to help you get started. This webinar will help ANY medical injector get started in longevity whether you're a beginner or advanced. Sign up to be notified when webinar registration goes live here: shorturl.at/etEM3
Knowing which supplements to take can be confusing with so much conflicting information out there. That's why I sat down with longevity expert Dr. Nicola Conlon to cut through the noise. In this episode, Dr. Conlon evaluates and rates my supplement stack, discussing the benefits and potential drawbacks of popular choices like creatine, Omega-3 oils, Vitamin D with K2, probiotics, NAC, TMG, turmeric, NMN, collagen, nitric oxide lozenges, and multivitamins. She emphasizes the importance of addressing the root causes of aging and offers insights into optimizing supplement strategies for better health outcomes.

NMN and she poo-poo’d it 🫢 and here is where I had to go 19:49

The major mistake people make when choosing supplements is bias. We categorize what we consume into pharmaceuticals (greatest bad), food (much is bad), and supplements (vitamins, minerals, etc) as the least bad. Think of any substance as potentially good or bad. So supplements can be as harmful to you as some prescription drugs. But people will hear about a supplement, buy it over the counter, and take it without knowing of its potential harms. Don't take any supplement unless you know its potential side effects, long-term effects, and interactions. And if it isn't proven scientifically to provide the benefits you expect, or there are contradictory studies, don't take it. The only supplements I take after spending thirty years researching them: 1. Multiple Vitamin 2. Omega 3 3. Vitamin D3/K2 as MK-7 4. Magnesium 5. Fiber 6. Electrolyte powder to mix with water when excercising. Also, if you are either consuming processed food, or food with added sugar, why are you bothering to take supplements? How are they going to make you healthier when you are poisoning yourself with food?

Knowing what genes including SNPS you have makes all the difference. If a clinician doesn’t know what genes are active, then they are guessing. Knowing the status of the gut microbiome, methylation, detoxification, toxic exposures, mineral, vitamin deficiencies, the ability to use food,-- are for starters, essential to individualized, precision health care.

Sorry for my next intervention, but the story of Curcumin and it's bioavailability [15:48] is not complete yet. Yes, it's true that Curcumin's bioavailability is very poor but actually there are ways to solve this problem. The keyword here is micellar capsule packaging of Curcumin. This rises it's bioavailability up to 185 times - far more than piperines and other so called "boosters". I would not be surprised if a micellular capsule packaging would also be a more effective way to improve Nuchidos bioavailibility instead of using piperine.

Her argument against NMN as a precursor goes directly against taking a precursor of GlyNAC for Gluthathione production. She never mentioned finding out why the body runs low on Gluthathione, instead of supplementing with Precursors. The sub argument against TMG also works against her recommendation to combine K2 to Vitamin D. She was better off discarding the factory analogy completely since it contradicts the need to restore gluthathione levels

I would politely like to add an very important point regarding Vit D and blood measurment [06:08]. Currently it is only possible to measure the transport precursor form of the biologically active Vit D directly. This precursor transport form is called 25 OH, or Calcidiol. That's usually what is measured in the blood. But the biologically active Vit D form inside the cells is called 1,25 OH, or Calcitriol and this is the relevant compound regarding epigenetic regulation inside the cells. Intracellular Vit D 1,25 OH aka Calcitriol is activated then by another agent known as Vit A or Retinol. Together they form an enzymatic complex which acts as epigenetic regulator. It turns thousands of genes on an off. Regarding this it can happen that the measured 25 OH concentration in the blood sample appears high while the bioactive 1,25 concentration inside the cells is low. This can e.g. be related to a lack of Vit D binding proteins (VDBPs) which are necessary to get 25 OH into the cells. Furthermore a high 1,25 OH concentration inside the cells is not really effective without Retinol as co-compound.

Thank you again Magnifico.. have you given any interview .. you seem to know a good deal of the internal working and the fringe details that many guests miss.. I found Dr Nichola explain why she did what she rated, logical. Abt Vit D & A - you mentioned it's good to add Vit A with D3 -bt will it be better for the body , if it is going to start a cascade of genes on n off?
@MrElmagnific0
@MrElmagnific0 2 ай бұрын
@@Vn-ye3km Exactly, 1,25 OH - or if you want to use it's other label = "Calcitriol" - is the active form of Vit D inside the cells. It binds with Vit A/Retinol creating an epigenetically active complex which is modulating the expression of thousands of genes. Therefore it is so crucial for cell health and homöostasis.

@@Vn-ye3km , I honestly thank you in return because your questions gave me the opportunity to share my limited wisdom as epigenetic and functional medcine coach with you. No I have no podcast yet nor I am planning to start such format. I can recommand you a basic lecture around this topic. It' s a book called "Why We Age And How To Stop It", by Dr. Sandra Kaufmann. It's a must read. In general: if you want to reduce inflamation im cells you should activate your SIRTUINS, avoid stress, change your mindset (be thankful, greatful, forgetful, loving, compassionate and do not live in the past. Use good high quality oils (olive oil, omega-3 oils, no industrial processed oils from plants), reduce meat especially processed food, sugar and bad/empty carbohydrartes from sweets. Use good and pure water - no plastic bottles. Change your diet to organic plant based. Exercise, meditatitate, be spiritual, search for constructive friendships and relations and have fun in your unique and wonderful life journey. All this points are relevant to reduce inflammation. Beside that you can supplement e.g. with Resveratrol, Quercetin, Astaxanthin, Curcumin, EGCG (component of green tea) to reduce inflammation.

This seems to be a infomercial. Her take on NMN is not consistent with my 10 year experience. I am 80. I take 2 gm NMN daily with TMG in water with electrolytes. I walk 3-10 miles a day, do expert witness work for attorneys, race a Laser sailboat and workout 3x week. When I started with NMN alone, I found my hair returned to brown from white, and my energy was much improved. I hiked the Inca Trail to Manchu Pichico 5 years ago with no problems. I also take some of the high rated supplements you do. I recently started Taurine and have found it useful and gave me better sleep. I don't see any references to peer reviewed work supporting her claims. I can't reset my age - and am happy as I am. I am disappointed with this video.

Then there's this NZ doctor with minimal vitamins and micronutrients multivitamin at very high price, claiming to avoid 'mega-dosing'. Then he tries to meet the magnesium supplementing-requirement of 126 mg by having to take 4 capsules of this expensive brand he created. Better to get your omega-3s from food and not (potentially rancid) fish oils. I've recently started eating sardines, (in water- not seed oil) a few times a week. In my local grocery store, you can get 10 cans for $10. There's about 1500 mg of EPA and DHA in a 3.5oz can. That's more than an equal weight of salmon and less likely to be contaminated by heavy metals (like the larger predator oily fish). Yes, it's more expensive ($1/ dose) than a pill, but it's better for you.

Vitamin D3 has a half life about 15-25 days in your system...I do not understand how taking it in a morning or evening would impact your sleep.The important thing would be your 25Hydroxy level. Regarding K2 and calcium , vitamin D3 supplementation will NOT raise your calcium level unless taken pharmacological level. 50.000-100.000IU daily for long run!! In that case having vitamin K2 will not be of help either.

@@DrTimPearce, you didn't challenge her when she said you shouldn't take a supplement if you have to take another one to offset a potential problem (TMG and NMN) as to why that is, it didn't seem a genuine concern, rather a part of the take down of NMN.
@hannahmulligan1103
@hannahmulligan1103 2 ай бұрын
She is saying that we should be increasing NAD through fixing the root of the problem essentially. There is a balance to be maintained as well, we do not want to much NAD and we do not want to little NAD. We should be able to optimize our NAD levels without NMN and TMG. I think a good option would be for those in the midst of working on their methylation issues to use NMN and TMG. Once you have, then try discontinuing them. It takes a very long time to address methylation issues. I've used quite a few different supplements until I was able to optimize my health and be well without them.

Allow me another (hopefully helpful) remark regarding TMG and methylation [10:42]. I would rather not supply additional methyl-groups via e.g. TMG as long as the intrinsic methylation process inside the cells is working. Sure, the intrinsic concentration of methyl-groups seems to decline with age but in this case it is mostlikely more efficient to supplement with methylated folic-acid (Vit B9, --》bioactive Quadrofolic) and methylated cobalamin (Vit B12) which are crucial compounds of our bodies intrinsic methylation-cycle inside the cells. High homocystein blood levels can be a strong indicator for a distortion of above mentioned methylation-cycle and it's pathways.

@@Vn-ye3km, yes but B12 should also be methylated in order to donate the attached methyl- group to Homocystein which then is converted to Methionin. Without this step the levels of (unmethylated) Homocystein can rise to an unhealthy and pathologic level. Therefore it is crucial to check the Homocystein status via blood testing. Is it's level outside of the "normal" range I would strongly recommand to supplement with Quadrofolic (B9) and methyl-cobalamin (B12). Take it forca period of at least 6 months and retest your Homocystein status again to check whether this intervention was succesfull -》your Homocystein blood concentration should be significantly reduced.

so what is the best way to boost NAD? We need the details. Really disappointing response from Nichola to knock down something without giving any alternatives.
@DrTimPearce
@DrTimPearce 2 ай бұрын
Here are five effective ways to boost NAD levels, supported by scientific research: Nichola has concerns that from my understanding come from the consequences of over supplementation caused by not dealing with over consumption of NAD by CD38. However there are many ways to raise NAD, it's the context of that change in the system we are topping up that Needs to be understood. Here is a summary of papers. Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) Supplementation: Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a precursor of NAD+ that can significantly increase NAD+ levels. A study showed that NR supplementation in humans led to a substantial rise in NAD+ levels, with a 40% increase observed in individuals taking a recommended dose and up to 90% increase with a double dose over eight weeks (Dellinger et al., 2017). Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) Supplementation: NMN is another NAD+ precursor that has been shown to boost NAD+ levels effectively. Studies indicate that NMN can improve various physiological functions related to aging and disease by increasing NAD+ availability (Freeberg et al., 2023). Dietary Supplementation with Niacin (Vitamin B3): Niacin (nicotinic acid) can elevate NAD+ levels in the body. Research has demonstrated that niacin supplementation can cure systemic NAD+ deficiency and improve muscle performance in patients with adult-onset mitochondrial myopathy by increasing blood and muscle NAD+ levels significantly (Pirinen et al., 2020). Combination Supplements (e.g., NR and Pterostilbene): Combining NAD+ precursors like NR with other compounds such as pterostilbene (a polyphenol) can enhance the effects. This combination has been shown to be safe and effective in increasing NAD+ levels sustainably in humans (Dellinger et al., 2017). Exercise: Physical activity can naturally boost NAD+ levels. Exercise stimulates NAD+ synthesis by enhancing the activity of enzymes involved in NAD+ metabolism, which helps maintain cellular energy balance and supports overall metabolic health (Li et al., 2021). These methods are supported by research demonstrating their efficacy in increasing NAD+ levels and providing various health benefits.

Long before any lines happen expression is already distorted. When you want to understand a system. Look at the most energetic parts. Such as nerve such as capillaries and muscle They do create the most distortion. All rest otherwise is tale to do the best in a worst.
