Very cool Dave! The original color did not bother me too much, but your custom paint job is amazing though! I particularly liked your edge stippling techniques. It really breaks up those large panels and looks very realistic. Thanks for sharing!

What's funny is in my day job a good portion of my work is color matching of products and graphics so I'm probably more critical than most. Honestly it was just an excuse to repaint an AT-ST! 😂

Experienced modeler and painter here (not the best, but I've been doing it for years). I like your explanations for new people! For people who don't know, the brushing technique he uses on the rocks is called Dry brushing, or some people call it overbrushing. It can be used lightly or heavy for different effects. I personally would have added a drybrush to the dirt and a bit to the grass to give a bit more of a textured look, but this is a beginning tutorial, so totally understand why you keep it simple. Good on you for helping new people out with the basics. A lot of tutorials out there assume people already know how to do basic things and either gloss over it, or just skip that part completely. Also, terminology explanations are great so peeps can go on to more advanced stuff and know what they are hearing and what it's referring to. A+++. And great enthusiasm too.

Thanks for the great painting tutorial. I've recently bought the almost microscopic Bandai AT-ST & Snowspeeder model kit pack, and I'm keen to do a switcheroo diorama set on a forgotten desert/snow bound moon where remnants of Rebel and Imperial troops have found it necessary to ally themselves with native tribes, and finding whatever equipment they can find to survive. So, the tribe with the Rebel survivors is using the AT-ST and the opposing tribe with Imperial troops is using a rebuilt snow speeder - of course! Your painting tutorial has given me all the inspiration I need to paint the models just how I need them to be. By the way, I also appreciate your desire to use simple methods and materials to get a great result. Thanks heaps!

that came out very cool. Doing things like this is really fun. What gets me going on them is when you are doing a base or even the main figure and it just dont seem to be going how you want it and then all of a sudden you do just the right few brush strokes or add just the right little piece and then viola it just pops and it is like such a cool exciting feeling when it does all come together. And it dont have to be much either like on this just the right stone or the right placement of the grasses and POP it is there.

I didn't think the color looked off but the shiny plastic look of them did, the old star wars toys used to be a lot more matte. The shininess makes them look like toys instead of the real thing

That is totally an upscale of the old 'Micro Machines' AT-ST - down to the pilot. The only diffrence is the addition of more articulation in the joints
