The thing is without considering the genetics, no one is born with self hatred, negative self talk or mental illnesses. If someone keeps destroying how you perceive yourself verbally all the time, in time, it's easy to believe these words instead of what you knew was true. So it's all in her head but others were in the first place.

Mental illnesses do have a genetic base... Im adopted and had a great childhood... But Im still bipolar and im pretty sure my bio mom was bipolar and im pretty sure my daughter's bipolar... There are mental illnesses you can gain through trauma... But some of the really difficult one's that are life long you're definitely born with... There's no triggering event... They just seek up one you... But they do drop hints if you can spot them.. But having creeps spout a bunch of b.s. at you does not help either... Especially if you're already vulnerable...

Now that I understand that owning my negativities is actually a positive thing, it helps a lot. There's no need to feel ashamed to acknowledge that we feel or think negatively sometimes. What matters is that how we would navigate the emotions and thoughts skillfully after first acknowledging them. To have both positive and negative emotions is to be a human. It's normal, it just means that we're human. That's what my thrapist told me.

I came here trying to find out why I project positive emotions on others. But perhaps it's not projection. I had two long term relationships with jealous men who projected their insecurities on me more as you describe, they automatically assumed I was flirting with others, that I was dissatisfied. I can see that. I've been insecure in my life, but actually that was not the biggest issue, It was more low self-worth when I should have expected better quality of suitors, or chosen from better quality of people. I always settled for mediocrity without waiting & looking for better suited people in terms of interests, integrity, exposure ... But what happens to me is that I (think) project love, connection, bonding onto the other person, I think they feel the same as I do. I plan and fantasize with doing beautiful things together, I like to give, to please, to think of the person and give them what they may need from affection to material things, I think they're better than what they are, I sublimate mediocrity. I think I began not to do that as much now that I'm older, I'm well into my 50s, but if I'm smitten with someone, I go back to idealizing them. I thought that was projection, projecting what I feel about life & others, but I guess that might not be called projection. So I don't know what it is, why I idealize and think others feel the same ... I come from trauma, from much trauma and seeing people suffer around me, I don't know why I "give"others deeper emotions about me that they have ... I'm not sure most men can love a real woman, I think most love an idea of woman, or of that woman, there, I guess they're projecting on them a set of expectations, then they're disappointed with the real woman .. I think people are better than they are, my naivitee is to the point of stupidity, then there's disappointment, but I've been able to love a few people despite their flaws, I thought that was growing up, but the truth is, I feel in love with the wrong people over and over again, never properly loved, ... so how do I find the middle term where of course, nobody is perfect, I should love someone beyond their flaws, but on the other hand, how not to project emotions, and see people for what they really are from the start ... I think I'm beginning to do it but it'd take decades for me to get conscious and good at detecting what I'm doing ...

@JustDr.S3 жыл бұрын
I don't know what Dr. Tracy would say, but my situation is a lot like yours. I went for counseling. It became about asking myself the question: Not good enough for who? Whatever little I could do, to be the best version of myself, that's what I did. I couldn't do much, physically, due to my health, but I tried doing the best I could. I stopped telling myself I wasn't good enough, and all the other negative things you could imagine. I had to give myself a break, and NOT compare myself to anyone else who was fit and fabulous! Because I'd always be on the losing end of that, and it was not a fair comparison. I had to stop blaming myself. I had to stop blaming others. I had to learn to accept my limitations, and only be better at what I was able to. It took a long time. But, it helped me. I learned to try really hard to be better than 'good enough' for MYSELF. Nobody counts more than you do. Nobody's opinion of you should make you feel not good enough. Your opinion, is all that matters. Then work with the other stuff, like relationships. Was hard, but it can be done. No matter how small the steps you take are. You ARE good enough, you just don't know it, yet. Good luck, and good health to you. ❤❤❤

Yes, I'd like to learn more of this type content. It's fascinating. Plus, projection is really rampant in society and individuals right now.

Great video! Thank you. Your explanation of the difference between subconscious and unconscious was the only explanation I’ve heard of the difference between those two words.

I love that you talk about the nuances here. There is so much going on under the surface in our thoughts and core beleifs that we have to look at and work on gradually. A therapist can really help us see what's underlying that we may not be aware of, and help us work through it and track progress.

I'm a little confused, because I thought to project means assuming/interpreting someone else's words, actions, mental state etc. within one's own frame of reference. I never thought that has to be connected to negative internalized stuff. Example: "What do you mean, you don't want a bday party? _Everybody_ loves bday parties. You're gonna get one anyways, and I promise you're gonna love it!!" I'd argue this is a kind of projection without negative internalized stuff. As a person with autism, I often feel that people without autism project their abilities and enjoyments on me, not out of any negative internalization, but sometimes out of an intent to do me smth good (party, spontaneous visit) and almost always out of forgetting that I have limits that they don't have (spontaneous changes of plans, unpunctuality, well-meant advice "why don't you 'just' do " where will likely send me into a meltdown etc.). In turn, I project too, for example, when I see someone being sad, my instinct is to comfort them by leaving them alone - because loneliness, peace and quiet comforts me, when I'm upset. And I did act like that for a long time until I got social competence training that taught me that most people like a hug when they're sad. I always called these situations projection. Is there a different word for this?

Thank you for sharing! for me its money at the time, luckily I am changing career and will make allot more money. Now I can get my own luxury place and move on with my life. It is very positive to observe Your self. I have done allot of mindfullness so allot people say negatively just goes away like dust. About saying something negative to a partner, family member or friend can hurt thier self esteem. Some years ago when I was younger, my mother who did not work, and had a injury. I was working and getting in a little money with my father, I told her that all she do is just sitting home doing nothing. It may not be projecting, but it really got her on her own self esteem. So now I try being positive and encourage her to become a clothing designer, wich she has allways dreamt of. She has declined becouse she cant do it becouse of age, physical health etc. But for all I know, some spark can come and she will pursue her dream. Thank you for youre warmth. Sending good toughts :)
