You are right! Covalent inhibitors (irreversible inhibitors) are becoming far more common. Their chemical reactivity can cause problems, but their action also brings advantages. In my experience, reversible inhibitors (based on intermolecular forces) are discovered first, and then researchers design irreversible versions afterwards. Irreversible inhibitors used to be disfavored, but people are getting better at understanding how to exploit them.
