From what I read, the reason for them using scimitars is a mistranslation of sorts from earlier versions where they were described as using a curved blade meaning a sickle or scythe because of their use in agriculture etc, but it got labelled a scimitar instead

Druid is my favorite class. Circle of shepherd has great healing actually with its unicorn aura to heal everyone at once. And the unlimited wildshape moon druid is terrifying being able to do high cr shape changing each turn. There are druids all the way back to 1e Advanced dungeons and dragons that used metal armor, for instance Pikel and his metal pot helmet, and that never stopped him from using his "shilala." Meiliki is a nature goddess whose clerics almost always multiclass into druid, and she is also a goddess of rangers, and supports her followers wearing any armor a ranger can wear. It is not a misprint that the class proficiencies states, "will not," and doesn't state, "can not."

Honestly, I think that game developers, like Wizards of the Coast, are completely ignoring some potentially interesting elements. I want to see weapons, shields, and armor made from bone, shell, and stone. Not only would these items be potentially culturally thematic, but they would also open up a whole new set of combat options for all character types in addition to widening the breadth of thematically appropriate weapons for druids and rangers. I think Rangers are in the same boat as Druids, more or less, both are built around the natural world and exploitation of environmental niches. I would love to see a Rangers with sets of swords made from fangs and claws, druids with spears and swords that were made from fangs, bones, and claws, maybe even some rare kinds of rock or plant. Maybe even give us tool a kit, with potential proficiency, that is designed to shape bone. The idea of a Ranger or Druid decked out in armor made from dragon hide that is also wielding shields and weapons made from that same monster's bones, fangs, and claws is just an amazing visual for a high-level Druid or Ranger.
@DrPluton4 жыл бұрын
I love the idea of wood, stone, bone, etc. weapons and armor. That said, back in 1st edition, druids were required to use a silver sickle to harvest holly berries as their druidic focus for many spells. Usually, there was a ceremonial one kept at the local shrine or circle, but you would generally want to have one crafted for yourself. Druids try to limit worked metals, but they've never been completely without them (except in certain campaign settings).
@dracone43704 жыл бұрын
@@DrPluton To be fair, ceremonial tools can be made from almost any material. Druids in D&D, and Pathfinder, are pretty on point when it comes to representing the spirit of their real-world inspiration.

In my current campaign, I just straight-up reflavoured my ranger's starting weapons in this way so they'd be more "cool." I had a composite longbow made of birch and stag antler, an ivory scimitar, and a rapier made from petrified wood with a hilt of barbed vines. My DM was cool with it, as I was basically just applying a superficial coat of paint onto mundane gear provided in the PHB. Of course, it probably helped that he planned for us to be stranded without any of our gear in the first minutes of the campaign! 😂

The flavor reason of why druids can't use metal armor (but are fine with weapons) is that the metal armor would block their connection to nature, similarly to how certain materials block divination spells.

Just an FYI, metal is nature, just because it is worked by the hands of man doesn't mean it isn't material from the earth. Also in Asian beliefs, metal and wood are elements so I mean it's really not a big deal about the metal armor. It's just one of those things people who played DnD before the 4e/5e days are stuck on (I was for a while too). There is nothing wrong with a druid wearing metal armor if they choose to, they can even be the people who learned how to mold the earth in non-magical ways to show people how to utilize everything the earth gives you. Theres more than one way to look at a druid. You could also be something closer to a REAL Celtic druid and play a Warlock lol jk. Just my two cents you know how we love to give our opinions out here on the internet. Keep it up guys I love the channel and community!!

IMHO circle of spores is pretty bad actually, unless you are a tortle. Circle of shepherd, especially, as summoners are crazy damn strong, they can get a crap ton of little critters to swarm the enemies. Other than that, the druid healing spirit spell is ... lets be honest, totally god damn broken. Whoever wrote that never even imagined that people would want to use that spell outside of combat and it, together with good berries, turned the druid into the number 1 best out of combat healer in the whole d&d 5e setting.

Druids can use metal armor my druid is a druid of Meiliki (sorry for mispell) the goddess of the forest her druids and rangers both use metal and are encouraged in the order based on DnD lore. The wont has to do with RP flavor and is not mechanics. If they make it a restriction then it would break some dnd orders that have druids using mail. If you enforce this as a rule then technically a druid can not use a dagger or any metal weapon or even rings/necklases, cloaks with metal clasps. You would basically have to treat them like lancinthropes and silver but with all metal. Also dragonscale is not scale its a term for a metal plating type that resembles scales that people assume because it has dragon it must be animal based its not. Metal is a natural resource found in nature so makes no sence to lemit them on it.
@Altyrell4 жыл бұрын
I agree, cause I view it more like "guidelines" than actual rules. I treat it as such in games that I DM. If the Druid(s) decides to wear Metal Armor, then I don't put any limitations on what they can or can't do. Because there would be times where wearing Metal Armor would be beneficial outside of combat. Plus, I've allowed Warforged Druids
@vestige25404 жыл бұрын

The metal restriction for druids has always been one of the dumbest rules in D&D. There's nothing inherently unnatural about metal. Iron--it's an element. It literally comes from the earth. What's unnatural about iron? Nothing. It's an arbitrary and nonsensical restriction
