The presentation provides a detailed explanation on the system along with the working of the automatic brake adjuster. Now I know why adjusters are to be screwed in all the way when replacing brake shoes with compensation made at the handbrake lever 👍 It's so they can 'self-adjust' out as the shoes wear.

Hello sir, I am from India. I have a question about drum break failure. Why drum break worn out unevenly. It is big problem in our work shop. Please reply sir. I expect your reply. Bye sir
@guest2007
@guest2007 6 жыл бұрын
maybe drum-brake gets wet during driving on a water-puddle, then water-puddle discards grease being smeared to 6 pads on the backing plate. lacking grease on that 6 pads, causes uneven wear source : 1. 'Six pads on the backing plate provide a lubricated slide surface for the shoes. These small pads are where high temperature brake grease must be applied, with either style brakes. Through years of use, or lack of lubrication, backing plates can wear. Wear creates grooves and cause the brake shoes to bind and apply unevenly.' in www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/187 from google (drum brake uneven wear) result 1 2. 'Back in the days of drum brakes, driving through a puddle would cause the brakes drums to fill with water. If you stepped on the brakes either while in the puddle or right there after, the brake shoes would press outward against water instead of the brake drum. The co-efficent of friction of water is very close to zero point zilch. In other words you had little to no brakes until the water had a chance to work its way out of the drum.' in boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=177490 from google (drum brake stay dry) result 2 3. 'No real problem with drum brakes as long as they stay dry. I put drums (oem) on the pan last year, and surprise better brakes than the disc (72-77 style) it replaced.' in www.totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?t=25610 from google (drum brake stay dry) result 6 4. 'In many classic cars (70's and earlier) drum brakes were used on all four wheels. If you drive through deep water, you will notice some loss in braking until the water runs out of the drums. In 30 years of driving, I only experienced this once...and that was 28 years ago driving my 1969 Buick Skylark' in www.quora.com/What-should-I-do-if-the-brakes-of-my-car-get-wet from google (from google (drum brake stay dry) result 7 5. 'Brake fade is not always due to overheating. Water between the friction surfaces and the drum can act as a lubricant and reduce braking efficiency.[5] The water tends to stay until heated sufficiently to vaporize, at which point braking efficiency returns. All friction braking systems have a maximum theoretical rate of energy conversion. Once that rate is reached, applying greater pedal pressure doesn't change it-in fact, the effects mentioned can substantially reduce it. Ultimately, this is what brake fade is, regardless of the mechanisms of its causes. Disc brakes are not immune to any of these processes, but they deal with heat and water more effectively than drums.' in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_brake from google (drum brake allow water to come in) result 1 6. 'The inside of drum brakes can get wet if you drive them through a deep enough puddle, but the wet linings/drums quickly dry out from several applications, though there will be noticeable fade/loss of rear-brake performance as they do dry out. But, in general, the water doesn't stay in the drums long enough to rust the inside of them unless you park the car immediately (or soon after) driving through deep water without drying them out.' in www.clublexus.com/forums/car-chat/670071-why-you-get-temporary-brake-noise-after-wet-conditions.html from google (drum brake always dry in the rain) result 5 7. 'Drums do get wet and they don’t work when you go through a puddle unless you were taught to lightly apply the brakes to keep the water out' in community.cartalk.com/t/the-underappreciated-drum-brake/79395 from google (drum brake always dry in the rain) result 1

What's the point of drum brake's? Disk brake's are a lot simpler and they have more stopping power. I just don't get it. Then again all I drive is coupe's so 🤷🏽‍♂️.
@autotechlabs
@autotechlabs 4 жыл бұрын
1. Drum breaks are better to integrate hand/parking brake inside it while disc brakes are a bit difficult to design with this feature. 2. Though many cars have rear disc breaks, they still have an inner drum system for parking break. 3. Rear breaks don't need to have more breaking force as front breaks. 4. Drum brake manufacturing is cost effective and is more than adequate for economic cars.
