Damn the V3As sound fantastic. I love this channel you are like Guitar Center back in the early 2000s when they had high end gear and you could actually test it before buying it. now days its all a crap shoot.

Just picked up an old DBX 166 for my drum bus and I really like it. I'll probably change out the ICs to some newer THAT corp chips. To me, your NG is the winner with the DBX a close second. The kick was too loose and the low end sounded a little flubby with the V3A. Much tighter kick on the NG and DBX. But as you said the snare was alot more open with the NG over the DBX.

Man, I’m such a sucker for those DBX160’s. I’ve been using a shadow hills dual vandergraph but im selling and getting another pair of 160’s. Just goes to show that money doesn’t necessarily equal the (always) subjective “best” :) I do love those audioscapes though! Seems like a nice mix of the DBX and the EL’s, a definite sweet spot. For the price and versatility, you really can’t go wrong with the DBX, but you also really can’t go wrong with the three of those. The NG I was the least interested in, personally.

I never tried the Shadow Hills in hardware but I was never crazy about the plugin versions.

DBX and V3A are tighter. More air/top on the distressor. More bottom/top on the NG but also looser. 160 sounds the most squashed. I would default to V3As for faster drum parts, the 160s for busy mixes and the NG for slower stuff. Not that anyone should care what I think. :) Great vid.

Hey everyone! I just purchased a Tegeler VTC compressor from germany and it just came in today. I have a few questions that are urgent so I can use it! First, It came with a euro power cord. Can I simply switch this out for an amaerican power cord? It also came over with different fuses by default. Which fuse should I buy so it work? I've already switched the voltage to 115v, but I am afraid to try and power it on without the first two questions answered. Can someone PLEASE HELP!!!

Now This Is Interesting.... I see that you have the SSL Fusion in your chain. But I noticed you didn't purchase the Buss + from SSL. I hear good things about it. But I figured that you were using the onboard Master Bus Compressor on the Origin for everything. How does that compete against the others? Were your expectations met with the on board one? Because that thing is suppose to be a staple... And responsible for thousands of mixes...

Correct. The console compressor is the same as the Bus + so I really don't need that unit. I love the console compressor and use it on every mix. It has that classic SSL sound
