Drum computer: My Favorite iPad Drum Plugin!

Number 1 DrumComputer tip: import a few 808s and other strong kicks. Huge upgrade. The sample player is hidden behind the resynth module. Tip 2: save a patch without any sequenced hits - and with all mod seq lanes at 50% (or zero for a bipolar knob) this is good for mapping to a different drum machine successfully. Also… I’ll let a different sequencer drive the hits, and use the mod lanes sequencer, ant the auto remix happen as fills bends warp & turnarounds. Real good real quick workflow. Playbeat3 is a good driver, because of its random button & ability to lock the main groove elements.

does playbeat have nudging/offset? was looking at octachron and they didn’t which was a big disappointment

In that saved zero patch I recommend, also adjust the 4 modifier knobs to trigger favourable targets (stretched & bent drums can be farken ugly so this helps eliminate the surprise waaaarrrrpinnnnng

Ok, two more… map the auto hall & auto cutoff to a macro outside the drum machine (dictator slider on turnado works well) to make the most of a swell or send at end of phrase. Cc118 & 119 - finally, when hitting the dice for a sequencer lane, take note the tempo. The random is a bit smart, will try to give a comprehensive rhythm/genre for that tempo, so for dnb set tempo 174 then random algorithm should offer usable content ‘off the bat’

I love playing with this on my iPad, but usually turn to the VSTi version when I’m ready to do some serious work. My typical workflow is to sample each of the individual drum hits into an Ableton drum rack. That allows me to isolate each drum sound and do additional processing, along with global processing on the kit. Then I’ll capture MIDI from DrumComputer, including alternate takes using the remix control, and start arranging from there.

This is actually my favorite drum machine vst! Had no idea it was available on iOS too. Love all the randomization features and especially the creative sequencer!

@@Alckemy I picked drum computer up, the price makes it so easy it's dangerous. Take a look at beat scholar and tell me if the design and modulation are comparable? Beat scholar has some interesting time/tempo features you may appreciate. As a noob drum computer appears to have more design features, but Id appreciate your opinion.

@@Alckemyit has some design too. Probably not near what the computer has, and sequencing, which is probably it's main feature. Really funky time features, I figured you'd dig it for that, I want to say it allows samples, too, I'm pretty sure.
