Hanging out in that dynamic range and keeping that pocket for 7 straight minutes is like running a marathon. Absolutely brilliant. Subscribed.

Solid pocket! It’s just enough and not too much drumming! It’s hard to sit in it just groove! Great playing Tate!

That is actually harder than it looks. The first time I tried, I was surprised how hard it is to get that hi-hat lift to match up with my kick just right.

Yep! And this drum part was one of the many during this era that was altered by the Wendel drum machine. I always have to remind myself that when I can’t seem to match it! Lol

Superbly, masterfully executed Mr. Tate ;^) ♪ And the recordings + the mix are quite a symbiosis. ♪ Glamour Profession was my first SteelyDan tutorial in 2019, (now at forty), the groove is so infectious, that's what started all for me.♪ Peace + massive respect, sir. ;^) ♪ .

Great work on a great piece of music! As far as I know, the original drum track consists of recorded samples of Gadd's kick, snare and hi-hat, "played" by Wendel the machine. The fills were played by Gadd, recorded apart and then overdubbed onto the Wendel basic track.

You would be correct on that one! I've done a bunch of research and found a bunch of interviews on the subject of this album and how it was made. Fascinating stuff!

Super solid! *One question:* On the final mix, I hear kick drum on all 4 beats. But on the "5.1 (Center Channel)" stem, I hear it only on beats 1 and 3. What is your take on this?

I never heard/knew there was a difference. I'll have to go back and check it out again...

Great stuff the real drum sound makes the song sound much better than that tinny synthetic dated 1980’s drum machine sound on the album.
