Hey guys,
this is my first video lesson!
Please don't mind my english, it's the first time ever I recorded myself talking and so also the first time I really talk in english!
So in this lesson you'll learn how to play the paradiddle (and its 4 variations) as grooves on your drumset and also how to displace them.
You will find all files to this lesson here:
davidfloegel.co...
If you got any ideas, which tutorial you'd like me to do, just email me:
davidfloegel@gmx.de
Or write me an email through youtube!
I hope you enjoyed
David

Im quite impressed ~ . Being a "self-taught" drummer I never "learned" the different rudiments - Ive developed into playing rudiments but never put names to them and since I play "by feel" Ive never had a reason to. That being said - Ive always wanted to know "how to play a groove using the paradiddle because I heard a KZbin drummer playing it but he didnt go into the mechanics of doing it - - now I know how - and it was a lot easier than I imagined - all thanks to the way you demonstrated it. As for suggestions - how about this: Are there any more "rudiments" that work as "rhythm patterns" or "grooves" that you can play along with songs? If so, how about lessons on each of the rudiments that work in that fashion. Again, thank you so very much for the instructional video ~!!!

Hey David! It seems a lot of people are asking for the MP3 that you play the inversions to, including myself. I know you said that your hard drive crashed, but since you state that you wrote the song just for the lesson, can't you just simply redo it and repost it making it available for download? That would be great!

Great stuff, David! What is you recommendation: covering someone's grooves or practicing independence stuff (or something like Benny Greb's "drumset letters"). And would you recommend covering whole songs or just grooves? Also, it'd be great if you provided us with some of your loops for us to practise along! Thanks!

I don't get this explanation below (from 02m52): 1) play variations as grooves with accents staying on one and three; or 2) as displace grooves, with bass drum on the accent and snare on the accent. Where's the accent supposed to be? I'm confused... Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks.
@juancpgo
@juancpgo 10 жыл бұрын
After a lot of thought (lol) I think I get it: - First we always keep the accents (bass and snare) on the 1ths and 3rds. So the inward would be: R l l r L r r l - In the second exercise the bass and snare remais at the same places in the paraddidle sequence: r l l R l r r L. Only the counting changes. This is a bit harder because now the bass and snares are not on the 1th and 3rd as we're used to have them.

Very good video. This kind of concepts was developed earlier by Gary Chaffee. This excellent exercise can be found in the study 43 of his book "Sticking patterns' (1994). To go further, the book "Rhythmic illusions'' of Gavin Harrison is a "must have"!... and listen Bill Bruford for beat displacement

oh and here's a fun one i like to practice. you play the paradiddle on the hihat and snare like you do and systematically replace a hand stroke with the bass pedal. like B l r r L r l l, R b r r L r l l, R l b r L r l l, etc. and then displace the exercise by itself and the same thing for all the different paradiddle inversions. thats been useful for me. keep up the good work, sir
