But if you do that sitting straddling the snare/pad doesn't the bottom of the stick hit your leg?

loving this series. In what practical ways do you use this technique? The only one I use it for is fast 16th's on a cymbal/hi hat with the leading hand.

BOOM8883 thanks. I don't use it in any practical ways at the moment, but I believe these exercises have value in helping one understand the relationship between how the hand and stick move. Some of the following tips will provide useful control exercises that will be applicable for playing fast jazz for instance. Things where you want to combine wrist and fingers.

Very useful if you're into metal. The drummer for Brodequin uses the same technique.

MagN8 I don’t know. You can play fast groupings without this technique. This is just a useful addition to the tool box.
