It's amazing to think she only listens to songs a few times before she plays it and records but, like everything else she covers, she takes total ownership of this song. What I mean is she looks like the original drummer that has played it hundreds, if not thousands, of times before. It's her effortless demeanor and the precision of her timing and force that blows me away. It brings tears to my eyes...TEARS OF JEALOUSY!!!

I don’t think it’s concentration. This is too easy for her. I’ve seen her play more difficult pieces. If you look, she keeps sneaking peeks to…who I’m assuming is her father or someone of authority in her life. The smiles and the “silliness” in this clip seemed more forced. She looks like she’s pouting. I’ve seen enough clips of her to notice the difference.

Watching this, it finally hit me why they call her the "Hokaido Hammer". Because she freakin' *NAILS* it every damn time! By the way Andrew, it came out in an interview that she learns most of her covers and can nail them in about an hour (not making this up!). The more difficult covers can take her up to "three hours". o_0 By the way, you still haven't reacted to her cover of 'Blurred Lines' (more cowbell!). You really, really need to react to that one. I'd finance it if I could, believe me.

Hi Andrew, really enjoyed this reaction. Seems Yoyoka's 'sprinkles' worked again. Someone alse observed that John Bonham never got to play this live. Jason has done live versions but does not seem comfortable with it. A very good jazz drummer once remarked that a good drummer needs to be at home with latin rhythms. Yoyoka 'got' this one for sure. Thanks.

Shido just dropped his drum cover of Yes - Roundabout on his channel. On the one hand - what an absolutely incredible family... Talk about good family bonding time...! On the other hand - in a few years when he is a teen and wants to play gigs... I wonder if he will be playing Yoyoka's signature drum kit... That might be a humorous sibling rivalry thing in the future... hehe Until then, it's just cool to watch them both grow and have fun.

I was wondering when you would get around to viewing this one. Really impressive especially on the break. The original has a multilayered percussion track so it is hard to tell what Bonzo is playing in the "main track". There are steel drums over the top which create a lot of the same "tonality" that Yoyoka is getting from the cowbell. If you listen carefully though, there DOES seem to be something else in the samba riff added to the snare and hat. To me, at least, it sounds like a whiskey bottle (a la Procul Harum's Whiskey Train)

For Yoyoka, this has probably been the most requested song by her fans. She finally did the song. It almost appeard effortless for her as you correctly note that it is a very difficult cover to drum to. It is a simple pattern, but a difficult groove to lay down. As you noted, Yoyoka put her own spin on the song as she has done on a number of songs she has covered. For example, kzbin.info/www/bejne/goKqm4WNrMagd6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnaloaRmgJx6pck At this stage of the game, her age no longer matters. She has mastered playing a drum kit and she is one of the few who can play in a studio and up on stage. The sad truth for a number of these young musicians is that they will most likely never achieve the fame or recognition they deserve. Yoyoka came to the promise land, but the infastructure of the promise land which cranked out hits for decades was being dismalntled in the 1980s. This is why the hits, yes, oldies of yesteryear are played over and over to adnausium. The music the entertainment industry is dead, no soul or creativity to it. Like when you look at Michael Jackson behnd the curtain, the music industry wanted you to believe that his songs were all hs creation which we know they were not, not that it matters. He was incapable of engineering the songs which were attributed to him. Even if he actually wrote songs which were attributed to him, the 'hits' which most poeple know as hits have to be played over and over again mainly by professonal musucians, in a studio, to get the songs right. Even when they are right, some of the highly engineered songs tank and are rejected or not accepted by the public. Then comes the work in the studio when you have working tracks. This is an example of when you are laying down the different takes on the track. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2iwpKSVZ8h3iJY Then it is mixed by the sound engineer where it is all put together and turned into a hit. How many more tracks did it take to put together the backing track? kzbin.info/www/bejne/boGtnoVtnJWDY5o kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIa4i56gbN2YjKs Somewhere on youtube is some of the sessions where the Ronnett were in the studio doing numerous takes of the song. None of this is for free. It is impossible to do this in one take. Now, if it has already been done by others to get it to this point, yes, you can do it in one 'take'. However, you cannot do it in one take without listening to it several times. But this is why she is a professonal musician. There are a lot of world class bands out there, but not getting any help or recognition. Mainstream music has no interest in them. This is what mainstream music is interested in. This is the garbage they want to shove down your throat. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaXQlWB5odV9rqM This is one of Yoyoka's buddies playing drums in this band. She is the best drummer in the world. Best drummer period. She is, also, a studio drummer and a stage drummer, but the music industry has not much interest in Senri Kawaguchi. Compare the music put out by this group to the crap put out by Taylor Swift as she autotunes her way into what? By the way, this is not said to detract from Yoyoka as you can put Yoyoka, in the same room, in the same conversation with Senri. Senri has more experience that Yoyoka, but they are at the point where they are almost equals. What the music industry does not get or understand is that the vast majority of people want to hear real music. The problem is that the music industry is catering to a group, a subset of people who will pay money to listen to this trash. Once they get tired of listening to this barely musical music, maybe, they will revert back to cranking out hits. I just hope Yoyoka has the patience to deal with the music industry is. Case in point, look at Alexey Poblete. She was the first winner of HLAG. The entertainment indsutry did pick her up and look how they treated her. She is local to the US. She is, also, asian. Plus, she is very fluent in English. I just wonder how they are going to treat Yoyoka. Yoyoka clearly got slapped in the face by Dave Ghrol by him not inviting her to the Taylor Hawkins tribute. Look at the talent of this girl. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWaoZIejfqZsn8k kzbin.info/www/bejne/d327i2trgpuaeJI This is what Yoyoka has to do if she wants ot make waves in the music industry. This has all the elements of an 'engineered' hit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYaaoIVjh5d7d7s She just needs to be up on stage with musicians like on this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6i4o4efe7ahi6s

Yes, it's really sad what has happened to the music industry in LA. Rick Beato has a whole channel that is focused on this and trying to set things back on a more positive direction. On the other hand, Republic Records, one of the biggest studios, is pushing Angelina Jordan, who certainly makes real music, so that gives me some hope. And Ted Gioia, who has been writing about this problem for years, says that recently the talented musicians have been developing their own independent ecosystems.

@@lesbrunswick5137 For the time being, rock is effectively dead. What is left is nothing but oldies, which the industry call classics. The record labels, the majors are making more in revenue than they ever have. The money is not coming from lousy entertainers like Bounce or the talentless Taylor Swifts, but the record catalogues. The recording industry is just sitting back and raking in money, basically, doing nothing. They are interesting in the music catalogues of various rock bands. Currently, the hottest catalogue out there is the Queen catalogue. Thirty percent of the airtime revenues is coming from airtime of the Queen catalogue. Forget the Beatles, Michael Jackson, the hot ticket in rock classics is Queen, then Journey. Just listen to any radio station, even though they claim that they do not play the same song twice in a day, how many Queen songs or Journey songs get played on a radio station each day. Rick Beato does not have the horsepower to move the needle in terms of bringing back rock. I really like Rick. But the problem is that the record labels, what is left o them are not going to invest the coin into cranking out albums. You look at the average album, from the past, what does it have in terms of chartable hits? One, maybe two songs? Some have more, but that is rare. Even back in the day, do you have any idea of how much it cost to develop a song to where it could be heard on the radio? Most bands in terms of live performances suck. Many of the bands you have heard over the years could not play the studio version of their cover hits if their life depended on it. It is not hard to access the talent level of musicians when they are up on stage. Kind of like what they call augmented sound or backup supplementary vocals nowadays, meaning that a band or a singer is lip singing to a damn recording. So much for autotune. As long as they have this, what appears to be, an endless revenue stream, they will milk it for what it is worth. The newer generations are already moving away from older rock recordings. Once the revenue starts to decline, panic will set in. Then, maybe, they will stop pushing the soulless music and talentless musicians down our throats and go back to the way things were. Hopefully.

No, of course Bonham was not the technical virtuoso of Peart but he did have some cool beats which is why most people put him over Peart. Honestly I think it's more to do with the band someone likes most as to who they think the better drummer is, Zeppelin has tons more fans than Rush so Bonham is usually picked as number one more often, albums sold proves that, an unfair way to look at it but it is what it is

I honestly think there are a lot of myths about drumming. As a bassist the thing where I hear/feel the difference between a great and an amazing drummer is a straight 4/4 where the is absolutely no hiding. That's where you really can feel the difference of someone like Dave Weckl and your normal great drummer. The best 4/4 I've ever played with is Tomas Haake of all people. He's not only an insane metal drummer but as amazing as a pop-drummer. Who knew?!

@AndrewRooneyDrums I'd like to hear your input on the fills at 1:50 and 5:38. It's too fast for me to keep up even when slowed down to 0,75x speed. The drummer is Thomas Leitner and Véhémence plays Medieval Black Metal (from France). I don't understand how a drummer with that lvl of skill only has 2960 views and 173 likes. Also the music is much more enjoyable than most death metal with more technically skilled drummers (imho). I wish more ppl encouraged him to post more recordings as he only've made 1 upload.
