Me and my boys play all types of music, but we LOVE playing extreme metal. There is nothing that feels better than the mastery of this type of music. Its just like anything else that people master. We just have a passion for the intensity. I have been in the scene for some time and there is no escaping it. We play it because we love it. Most of the guys I have known through the years arent pigeonholed into listening and playing only extreme metal. We might be one of the few genres that take inspiration from everywhere. Napalm death got me into Cocteau Twins and shoegaze music. Exodus got me into bluegrass. We all listen to virtually everything, but there are few things better in life than playing and executing this challenging music live while entertaining fans.

Everybody is talking about lactic acid and exhaustion xD My observation: He hits with less power than Dominator (former DF drummer), which I suppose is not a bad thing, also his sticks seem to be a tad lighter. And then look at his blastbeats: No wrist movement, using the thumb/index grip as a fulcrum, bouncing the stick with his small/ringfinger as relaxed as possible = efficiency of movement. Of course I'm not denying that it takes a lot of stamina, but I think he does the extreme speed the right way.

Simon in incredible drummer. Definitely up there with the best of them. From a technique perspective, the leaning forward acts with the fact in extreme metal drumming you must sit on the entire sit instead of just the end. This is because at such fast tempos for double bass you need to have less pressure on your legs going from up to 170bpm with full leg motion and more upright, then maybe up to 220/230bpm with just ankles and beyond 240bpm the swivel motion. And for ankle and swivel motion you almost need to be hovering with only pressure on the balls of your feet because swivel is made from pressure to motion. Everything is acting as a moveabke counter balance at such extreme tempos

Murdak is actually pronounced like merdoc. There is actually a lot tricks like fly finger which most of them do, instead of using your forearm muscles. Heel up is the easiest way to play the double bass parts or there is heel toe technique which I can’t do pretty much it’s the technique you learn with your left foot on the hi hat but you use it with both feet which makes playing double stroke rolls easier. Black metal is in your face with overly satanic lyrics the inventors of the style were Bathory, Hellhammer and Sacòfago.

Anyways, I am a black metal drummer.....but I practice all kinds of stuff......speed is by far not all there is to mastery of drums. I think many of these drummers could probably play anything you throw at them. I am practicing blues double bass right now, not the fastest stuff in the world, way way harder than playing straight singles at 200+bpm....for me anyways 😂 A lot is lifestyle too, take proper care of your machine and it will perform. This video is not that good. He goes slower than the song, misses some parts, lazy hits on the hihat. His fills are very good, but the song is too much for him. (Look at 3:33, where he starts with those lazy hits on the hihat, so he can speed up the hits on the snare). He definitely couldn't play it as fast as the original version (which is the one that plays in the background)
@Backpflaume6662 жыл бұрын
Dude what are you talking about? There are some minor imperfections here and there (maybe, it is hard to tell by the overall sound quality) but always keep in mind that this video is more or less unedited. There are no cuts at all, he plays this song in one take and even adds some fills. It is his own take of the song and he changes the drumparts here and there, but I don't see any problem with that. What is really impressive, is Simons consistency and the fact that he nails super fast songs on live concerts: Many KZbin drummers often have troubles with that due to the fact that they can't edited their recordings until they are perfect when they play live.
