Akane is in charge of their backing tracks, which they use on some of their live songs...that's what the device was to her left. It's most obvious when they have synth tracks, but they also use one for a third guitar part in Onset. This obviously requires the use of click tracks, too.

Regarding Saiki, she's a bit of a contradiction. During interviews, she's very reserved, almost seeming sullen at times. Yet, when she's on stage, she's in charge of the whole building.
@triquivijate3 жыл бұрын
Saiki - 'The Queen of Maids!' - There are a few interviews and behind-the scenes where they are all messing about. When Saiki gets the giggles at times, and the others wind her up, but she's kinda shy and reserved in interviews, true. But she knows how to pick up the crowd and oh man can she sing! - To think that Miku chose her then put her through so many vocal gymnastics to get the songs just-so. - And there's so much competition to be the best member of the band, making it such a great team-effort.

Great breakdown! Thank you! Couple of things: Yes, Band-Maid plays to a click track, big reason why they play so tight and in the pocket live. Akane does use a Roland emulator for triggering various fill sounds. Yes, several songs of synth and other background parts to them. She has even done a demo video for Roland. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2qlZpWVe9ameZY She does indeed use a double pedal and has recently improved it even more on the new album Unseen World by playing around with the weight placement and stroke length to increase her speed. She's now able to hit 220bpm on the new song Black Hole. All members use in-ear monitors with the 4 principles now being wireless as of 2018. This song, "Freedom" has been Band-Maid's standard, if you will. Their declarative song and one that they all just have fun playing (as the video shows). I have feeling this song has now been replaced as their standard by Manners. Same emotive feeling but with an updated sound and lyrics to represent where they are now, and rightfully so. MISA is playing a Black Smoker custom signature MISA Bordeaux SG jazz bass. This was a new bass for her at the time of this okyu-ji. She is endorsed by Black Smoker Custom with a couple of MISA signature models. (Yes, MISA's name is stylized in all caps as that is how she wants to be known) She is arguably one of the top rock bassists playing currently, absolutely amazing talent. Anywho... thanks for a great breakdown!

That was really good. I have heard other knowledgeable reactors comment about her timing. Several live videos worth reacting to. Play Live is driven by bass and drums. Magical Akane !!!! in my opinion the most complete and best rock drummer of today. she makes up some unique drum lines. She breaks the nanosecond with her incredible precision. and even if she doesn't immediately notice she is also lightning fast, she moves around the drum set in a flash. Go and listen to YOLO, the drumline is absolute, you can't do better than this. I haven't heard a drum line like that since Stewart Copeland. I saw Band-Maid three times in concert, pressed against the stage at Saiki's feet and five meters from Akane felt Akane's bass in my bones. Anyways she has been using Zemaitis and has about 7-8 different models. In 2021 they issued the "Flappy Pigeon" which is an homage to Miku!

This is the first time that I listen to one of your videos and especially on one of my favorite band. I really like that you explain with the little details relating to the drum and on stage when it's live. But you have in your hands a fantastic musical group to discover. You only had a brief glimpse of their talents. What impressed me is their ability to play different types of music, be it Punk rock, hard rock, pop rock, American rock style or Metal. I suggest you listen to different songs, like Onset, Rinne (like metal music), play, Manners, dragon fly, Blooming, dice or Moratorium live. Thanks for this video.

In 2016, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a performance of Band-Maid in Tokyo and asked for a photo-op with their drummer, Akane Hirose. Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham. For those who don't know, BAND-MAID played in the Classic Rock Awards 2016 and received the Japan Next Generation prize. After the show Jimmy Page, asked Akane for a photo.

Akane does use in-ear monitors. I remember her tweeting about being fitted for them a few years ago. Also, a few years ago, I remember her saying something about being a little intimidated by doing a drum solo.

Yes, we all had the same impression, but in Bochum we were shouting and hoping...and Akane fulfilled our dreams and made a spontanuous solo, as to be seen on some videos. This also may have encouraged her to do more solos during the okyu-ji.

Thanks, I figured she did, but was not sure. You have cleared it up!

During the concert this was in (available on Blu-Ray), during Miku’s “magic time”, Akane and Misa come out and mess with the panel to Akane’s side, and it was doing things like little canned voice clips and such. (Magic Tine is a quasi intermission where Miku talks to the audience while the rest get a 5-10 minute break.)

Hi Mike, great reaction to a killer band! Your comments are very revealing about how their music works.With Akane on drums and Misa on bass the rhythm section is plugged in. Kanami on lead guitar and Miku on rhythm the package is complete. These ladies keep evolving and that makes me smile. Do you know a Canadian band called Unleash the Archers? Try the song "awakening". I would be interested in your thoughts. Enjoy!

If you're interested in hearing even more versatility from Akane, highly recommend their official live video for Wonderland. She doesn't do a solo or anything obviously crazy, but she keeps making subtle shifts throughout the song to keep things interesting and fresh. Plus some really creative high hat fills. You'll love it.
