Little late to reply but the toms are the way they are because Brann goes through that many skins he usually just puts a set of heads on both sides realising it’s better to just spin them around to a clean skin when the top one gets a bit too busted up rather than change it mid set or god forbid break it
@onbedoeldekut1515

What I think makes Brann stand head and shoulders above many drummers is how he seems to alter the pattern for almost every few bars that they're hardly repeated throughout whole songs. It must keep playing the same songs year after year more enjoyable, rather than copy/paste drum patterns that you could play in your sleep.

I saw them in Hollywood for that tour. They came out, played the entire album note for note all the way thru without speaking one word to the crowd. Then left, came back on and played 2 songs from each previous album, then walked off the stage. All without saying anything to the crowd. Was so epic. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Brann is from Rochester, NY. This is fun to watch. I've always thought his drumming was brilliant, but I'm not a drummer. I'm a guitarist who at best can keep a simple beat in a casual jam. It's fun to see someone who really knows drumming appreciate what he's doing so much.

He's gotta be one of if not my favourite drummers of all time. He's like the Phil Collins of metal.

There was a reason I suggested this one in the comments a few months ago... As far as the tom mounts are concerned, I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that mounting them upside down like this allows for a steeper angle.

The drums are upside down to make the mounting position better. If he flipped them right side up the bottom of the drums would be crammed together and jammed against the bass drum. It’s purely for more room

My setup has been a ripoff of Brann’s for a decade now but I never considered doing this, lmao I want to die

that was nice...wasn't expecting Brann to be so "accessible" but i learnt a bit just from watching this vid...he sounds so big and massive!! such great use of dynamics and those fills! ...gonna check out Mastadon now...hadn't thought of them much before now!! Always been a bit of a Mudvayne fan and this guys drumming and even the music reminds me a lot of their earlier stuff...

Branns parts always fascinate me considering he is a self taught drummer and somehow mastodon always seem to find a way to throw some intricate riffs/time signatures for him to deal with lol

My favorite Mastodon song is Capillarian Crest, would highly recommend checking that one out. The way they play with time in that song is absurd

He has two pedals, he’s just not overly reliant on them like a lot of metal bands. He lives in Alabama Ga that’s probably why he’s sweating
