Caleb playing here played at Bloodstock on the Serpent's Lair stage and I introduced him to Art Cruz as they were headlining the main stage. Art was blown away and did a great little speech on stage saying he is a future headliner, no question. Caleb and his family are lovely people too as was Art, who gave up a lot of his time to really help inspire Caleb and others like him. Next gen is very much alive!

I like the nuance you go into about how obsession and other environmental factors help nurture talent, particularly within children. A lot of people will look at somebody as young as Caleb and think that he's just born fortunate with some innate talent to have enabled him to prodigal status. But a lot of people could become very talented with not just the time to be able to practice, but also the dedication and determination, and as a minor, you need parents who are willing to cooperate with your hobbies and interests and help you progress by providing you with what you need in order to do so. A lot of kids Caleb's age would not have access to such a quality drum kit and you can tell that his parents recognized his talent and wanted to help him with his growth. He'll do well in the future thanks to the support system he gets from family. Not just drumming, however; the example can be made for any type of passion. Video gaming, sports, painting, etc. I'd bet there's quite a lot of children out there with the potential to greatness who just lacked the discipline due to their youth, or a lack of familial support.

100% agree, Caleb's already come a long way since I last saw videos of him. In this song, sometimes between the snare notes during the "slower" feel, he puts his hand onto the snare head and I can't decide whether he's doing this to time the space between the notes or if he's trying to mute the resonance (which we can't hear in this recording anyway), or if it's the beginnings of a bad habit (probably not this one😂).

I just started learning drumms this year, my age is 34, and now I don't know if I should proceed. Because I understand that I will never be as good as this 9years old kid. I can't imagine how hard his parents push on him, does he have any childhood at all, but he is absolutely ridiculously great now, and I will never be even as half good as him. No matter how long I master, he will be better. So what is the point for me to master at all?

If he continues to play, stays away from alcohol and other brain damaging drugs (sad but true destroyed many musicians careers and more important lifes) and can handle the hype he will be a monster at drums. This is no speculation for he already is fare beyond the talented kid but already a fantastic drummer! Listening blind - I would never think about a kid. He has great timming, feeling, musicality, speed, groove, punch..... he has a very promising future as a drummer! I mean he plays with so much power - for a small kid I am impressed by his physical power! Good luck for him - we will see him probably more in the future

It’s pretty simple: talent shows in his hands and feet. Heavy feet by a child drummer is somehow unique with him, so that’s what they notice. The truth is, right now he’s not Art Cruz with hands or with his feet, neither is he Jay Weinberg - but he’s lightyears ahead of their eight year old selfes and that’s why everyone is amazed by him. Also he brings something to the table you can hardly learn while the things he has to progress with like tightness in his rolls will come naturally within the next years. Just compare him one year ago and today, it’s amazing, we’ll be in for a treat when he has matured physically.
